Bought the power engine to pair up with the hd 500. Works great ... A couple of tips to make it sound great.
1 use xlr cable to keep the hum from the PE down
2 install a Jay Mitchell foam doughnut ( look it up on the gear page )as a beam blocker

I use this with my BOSS GT-10. It is transparent. The sound I hear if I use my headphones is exactly the sound that comes out of the Power Engine.Even my acoustic through the GT-10 into the Power Engine sounds great. Between the pedalboard and the Power Engine My "system" is easy to setup, use, and break down. Lots of volume if needed.

I bought this thing for my HD500 and let me tell you this amp is a perfect match!! The Celestion sound great with the POD. I also own one of the old Tech 21 PE 60 with the 2112a speaker inside, so now I have two and in stereo this rig is SWEEEEET!!!!!

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
Finally got my amplified violin to sound like the lovely fiddle she is. It required graphic EQ to eliminate the piezo squawk and the low frequency rumble of the bow, and reverb to make it sing. However, I could never get the sound I wanted magnified by any amplifier. It would always be distorted by whatever amplifier I was using.
I read most of the reviews about the Power Engine and was convinced enough to buy it online and untested. I would never buy an amplifier this way in the past. The Tech 21 Power Engine was EXACTLY as advertised. The music comes out clean and clear and loud. It is not at all distorted by the amp.
The PE60 is light in weight and looks cool like a vintage 50's amp. I 'throw' it on the floor in front of me, connect it to my pedal board, and let 'er fly! The open back lets me hear what I'm playing, and I have easy access to the volume knob....altho' it is clearly a "set it and forget it" amplifier, as I adjust the overall loudness with the volume control on my violin.
Your Tech 21 will be spending many hours in chuches, bars, dance halls, restaurants, boats and other unmentionable places with me! It is rock-solid, American made, and a perfect companion for 'me fiddle!

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
Have tried many options over the years for amplifying various guitar rack preamps and effect units. The Power Engine is by far the best...it allows you to get that ever elusive "headphone tone" via amplified speakers. The Celestions are ideal for guitar and this unit is built like a tank. The EQ section allows you to boost the frequencies you need to compensate for room dynamics..no hocus pocus...just high, low and mid controls that really work. I have seen some comments about noise...these reviewers need to check their noise source...for in a properly connected, high quality, power filtered and grounded rack system these amps are absolutely noise free.

It's pretty much all been said by the other reviews except that it can also work great as a powered monitor. I gave it 4 stars because of the control knobs location. Not sure what were they thinking. But it's loud, clean, light and sounds great, what more do you want?

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
Okay, here is the deal. A lot of people buy this to use modelers with it. This is's intended use. However, I bought it to run my tube preamp with it. I have had this for about 6 months. Here is what I've found:
1) Plenty of power. This thing can roar if you need it to.
2) Do not thing of the controls on the back as your "main" control knobs.
Example, I don't rely on the volume knob on the back for my level, I think of it as a "wattage control" or a maximum volume control.
Then, I use the output gain on my pre to control my actual volume. Think of tone the same way. Bottom line, you will probably want an equalizer if you plan on using this amp stand alone.
All said and done, this a GREAT sounding amp! I love it. I cannot say enough good things about it. I am actually considering buying another one to have as a back up, or daisy chain the two together.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
I bought this to work with my new POD HD400 and it does the job perfectly. It is just a solid state power amp with a Celestion speaker and it's made to work specifically with effects units. The sound is clear and lets the effects unit produce it's tone without being affected by a guitar amp preamp. I recommend this unit if you use an effects unit as your main setup. I also like the fact you can daisy chain multiple units together to get as much volume as you like and you could build a wall of them or place them at various points around the stage to broadcast sound where you want it - great feature. The 3 band Q is a nice touch if you wanted to use the Power Engine as an acoustic guitar amp for an acoustic/electric guitar with a built-in preamp.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
Purchased after reading many reviews for use with Pod hd300,I had used a crate powerblock into marshall 4x12 cab, which sounded great but for the gigs we do it was overkill,so I got this so I run one of pods xlr's out to mixer, the other to the power engine. My set up it now light, quick.easy and lesscables, and now no need to mike cab.The power engine sounds pretty good now, after some tweaking of presets, not as punchy as 4x12,being an open back 1x12 but for ease of set up and sound its worth it to me.I play from blues rock to hard rock/metal(think zz top to godsmack to metallica) it suites those sounds well.If I were in a death metal band probably wouldn't cut it.Not quite as clean as a p.a. monitor but far more clarity than a standard combo amp.The ONLY small issue I fault it with is at VERY high volume cab rattles a bit.Overall I give 9 1/2 out of ten.

Comments about Tech 21 Power Engine 60:
I purchased this to work with my Line 6 HD500 and my Roland GR-55 Guitar Synth. It worked perfectly with both systems. It is crystal clear working with both units in the studio or at a show. I will state that you need to work with the modeler to get the best sounds with the Amp but once you get a base line sound you will be able to adjust other presets to give you the best sound.
