Custom-tweak six bass sounds and access them on the fly.

The deluxe version Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass Distortion pedal boasts a combination of a warm, all-analog signal path and convenient digital recall. There are 6 program locations and dual inputs for 2 instruments to be online, ready to go. Create 3 custom tones for each input or use all 6 locations for a single instrument.

You can program the FX loop to engage your favorite effect each time you select its designated preset. The SansAmp VT Bass Deluxe is super-simple to operate—changes can easily be made on the fly—without having to refer to the owner's manual. You just turn the knobs to a setting you like, double-click on a footswitch, and it's saved in that channel.

The Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass Deluxe distortion pedal's level and drive controls work like a traditional, well-equipped amp. Low, mid and high are active controls, providing a wider array of tonal possibilities. The Character knob is continuously-variable moving seamlessly between different model voicings, covering vintage, high-gain, and face-melting lead tones.

The Tech 21 SansAmp technology captures the warm, rich, natural tones of the most sought-after tube amplifiers. Within the parameters of each model's particular design, the controls provide you with access to specific tone-shaping characteristics within the tube amplifier sound spectrum.

Tech 21 SansAmp products are designed to work seamlessly in both recording and stage environments. They can be used with almost any instrument, for any music style, and for multiple applications. Record directly to tape and disc or enhance previously recorded tracks. Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

I don't normally care for effects pedals too much, especially ones for bass guitar, but I've found this one to be quite versatile and good-sounding. I can get all kinds of different bass sounds out of it and it's good to be able to switch between presets easily. It really can go from a deep, thumpy bass to an aggressive, distorted sound. The control knobs are pretty sensitive though, so I'm still getting used to that. Expect some feedback and such when you first start experimenting with it. Overall it's a great product and I think I'll be using it often for years to come.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

The VT Bass Deluxe has quickly become one of y favorite pieces of gear.
If classic tones is what you're after, the VT Bass can deliver. Th controls are. Rey intuitive and responsive and programming couldn't be easier. Simply dial in a tone you like and click the footswitch twice, done. You have dual instrument inputs if you want to have a separate bank for instrument A & B or if you use only A input you can have all 6 locations available at all times.
Personally I use normally two different basses during a gig, but I still just use the A input only. This is so I don't have two cables foundering about on stage. I just switch banks when I change basses.
The DI is very clean and high quality and the 1/4" out can be boosted if needed. There is a parallel out as well as a series effect loop for further versatility. The only thing that I find could improve this unit is a Blend Control to enable blending you dry uneffected signal with that of th VT Bass. This is a fantastic feature of the Para Driver DI that I feel should be implemented across the whole product line.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

I've been playing for about 16 years. The church I played at recetnly got rid of all the amps (including guitars) and ran direct to keep stage volume down. I had used the traditional SansAmp BDI in the past and liked it so I thought I'd give their latest and greatest a try. This unit gives a greatvariety of tones in a nice compact unit. You will have the sound of a mic'ed amp running direct through the PA. The sound guy loved my tone right from the start and it sounded fantastic in my in-ear monitors. Now all I bring is this box and my bass and I have a great sound!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

The first time I plugged this in I thought "that's what a bass is supposed to sound like!" Great pedal, totally compensates for my mediocre sounding amp. My band mates both noticed the difference in my tone.

With this and a good compressor (I use the Barber Tone Press) you can get a very polished, professional tone. I plan to use mine to go direct to PA rather than micing cabs and just use my amp as an on-stage monitor. Pricey, but worth it in my book.

      A Bass Players DREAM

      By ShakeTheBottom

      from Chico, CA

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

If you're looking for a killer sound from creamy, melt-your-face, butter tones to tube overdriven, rip-your-arms-off Yes and King Crimson bass tones, this is your pedal. Ive played everything from jazz, country, blues, funk, and rock and there is no sound I can not not dial in. Best product and bang for your buck.
I bought the VT bass pedal when it first came out and after a few months, the DELUXE addition came out, but I figured I was already set and satisfied with the non-deluxe version. After years of playing with the old pedal, I sold it and bought the deluxe and I could not be happier. Up to 6 presets and its so very easy to switch between them and save new ones. Without a doubt the best purchase I've made to improve my sound in a long time.
Tech 21 is my favorite company after I saw the reliability and durability of the other pedal. Solid build and fluid and responsive knobs. I had the non-deluxe version for ~4-5 years and I never had a problem, EVER.
I couldn't argue with the price tag. It comes with everything you could ever desire in terms of your sound. Has an xlr and 1/4'' out, boost for outputs, and a ton of other features and gadgets that make this pedal a must have for bass players.

      VT Bass deluxe

      By Cam Stuart

      from virginia

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

Great pre-amp with lots of tonal flexiblity. Big improvement over my amp's preamp. I run the amp flat now and control everything from the VT. Simple, intuitive interface unlike all of those modeling pedals with a million adjustments. After all, you are playing BASS, not guitar! I can dial in everything I need to cover the Drifters up through present day music. My only suggestion is to have the A/B bass inputs switchable. I use 4 shapes for bass A and 2 for bass B, which means I can't plug both basses in at the same time. I would like to have all six presets available with both basses. Well built unit!

      Great Addition to Signal Path

      By Fender Freak

      from Indiana

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

I use this pedal primarily with a Fender Jazz bass. I use it in a pre-eq external processing loop as a parralell path for the signal. With the character control I can fatten up the bottom end or provide some overdrive type distortion. I then use the blend control on the amp to set the amount of the effect is added. I use an external power supply so I have no comment on the battery life.

Overall I am very satisfied my VT Character pedal and highly recomend it.
All controls provide audible differences in the sound, I've used some pedals where there are one or two controls that don't seem to do very much but not with Tech 21 pedals. The three band EQ is very handy.
I have an older non-deluxe VT Character pedal that gets almost daily use, I rely on it that much. I have used it for a couple of years and it has never let me down. I must add that I am very particular about how my equipment is handled and transported.
All Tech 21 gear woeks very well and as advertised, I also have a the Three Channel Programable DI that I use almost daily. The price is on the upper mid range but you get a good piece that works well and holds up to daily playing.

VT Bass Deluxe Pedal Offers Diverse Tone

      By Paul Bauch

      from New York

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

One really can't beat the value and control this pedal offers. Has many functions that a lot of the multi-purpose pedals offer without all the bells and whistles and complexity at half the cost. A solid box with great tone. I guarantee you will find a tone that you love with the VT deluxe.
I've only hit the surface of the iceberg with the features this pedal has to offer. 6 adjustable presettings or 3 and 3 for two instruments offers flexibility and serious tonal control. A direct out or line out lends itself to more control in a large variety of playing settings. I use this mainly for small gigs using the direct out into the front of house board and use the house monitor. I would prefer and recommend using a bass amp with this pedal as house speakers never give justice to bass tone. This is true for any bass playing situation. Other features include the effects loop and AC power. The tones that this little box can achieve is astounding. Starting with the setting that come with the device then adjusting and tweaking until you find that deep fat bass tone you've been looking for is very simple. The character and drive knobs give huge diversity to the tone. I strongly recommend this if your are looking for bass tone and are on a budget.
So far so good for quality. The box is built like a tank. A solid chunk of metal. The stomp buttons have held up too.
Considering what the pedal can do and the price I paid this is a great value. The most variety in tone without having to drop big money into a amp head or more pedals. I like to keep things simple and basic in my line so a volume pedal and the VT deluxe is all I need combined with a tuner and decent combo.

Same sound as VT Bass, Great usable extra features

      By Precision70

      from Cary, NC

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

The best Tech 21 Bass driver pedal got better. I owned the VT Bass pedal for two years which I used with Mark Bass amp. I love it so much that I sold my Bassman 300 Pro all tube and I switch my VT Bass pedal to the Deluxe version, for the 6 preset options. Sonicaly wise, it's the exact same sound as the basic VT Bass. For sonic performance review, look at the VT Bass reviews. Now the preset options is a bit better then the Boss multi-effect pedals I have used in the past, because it allows you to know exactly what the preset was for each of them using flashing led. So when you go back to preset 2 and you start messing with any knobs, which obviously is not likely to match the preset, while turning a knowb you can find out exactly what the preset was, so you can gently modify a preset momentarely or save it without screwing out everything. This makes it very usable. The extra XLR output and effect loop is great for me because I actually use an Electric Mistress in the effect loop. The user's guide explains well what to do with the extra features and how and where to hook any pedals in the signal path.6 presets is sufficient for any gigs, and no preset is worth gold because it is so easy to get back the tone you want with this pedal anyway. So it would probably be normal for any one to review their presets often without any pain. Price is a bit stiff, but hey the preset concept is well implemented, the sound is fully analog and the extra XLR output with all the options makes it a really professional product. The size of 2 and a half normal pedals. Now I use it with a Momark 800W with tube pre, and Avatar 210 + 212 cabs. Best tone, bottom end and power I have ever had. I run US G&L L2000, US Custom G&L L2500, US Precision 70' and US Jazz Bass with Maple Neck and Ash Body, EH Q-Tron XO, EH Bass Big Muff XO in front of the VT bass, and EH Electric Mistress XO in the effect loop.Best and most flexible rig I've ever had.Once again, good job Andrew Barta!

      A bag of tonal tricks

      By plankspanker13

      from Tempe, Arizona, USA

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe Distortion Effects Pedal:

This pedal takes up a bit of pedalboard real estate, but also gives "my sound" 6 additional different flavors. Shades of dirt from the styles of Entwistle, Squire, Wetton, Lee and Commerford are all at my feet, with some clean-but-fierce funkiness and deep dub tones to boot. I use the effects loop to run my stereo chorus and a looper, which is used for backing tracks. The VT Bass Deluxe is Sansamp's crowning achievement in pedal preamps.
