OVERVIEW

Bass DI with EQ, pad, ground lift and more.

Have you ever arrived at a venue or a studio assuming there would be a decent quality DI? It doesn't always work out that way. For the pro on the go, the VT Bass DI covers a lot of ground in a small footprint. This multi-function, multi-application format features three different outputs. You can complement your current rig, record direct, drive power amps and go direct to the PA. Just throw it in your gig bag and you're ready at a moment's notice.

Like its sibling, the original VT Bass, you can get the same legendary tower of power tone pumping through a stack of 10-inchers. This is for players who enjoy being heard. From chunky funk with the ubiquitous flip top, to the higher gain growl of indie rock. The VT Bass DI incorporates a Blend control to adjust the ratio of direct signal and SansAmp circuitry, and a Bite switch to engage a presence boost and a subsonic filter.

With the VT Bass DI, you can go from clean SVT-style thump to dirty earthquaking rump. No matter which way you dial it in, it all sounds massive.

FEATURES
  • Emulations of classic bass rigs
  • Blend control for direct versus processed sound
  • Rugged build quality
  • Quet operation

Your sound on stage is right. Make sure the room sounds right as well. Order today.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

If you are after the Ampeg SVT sound and don't want to lug around an 80 lb. head, get one of these. I am using this with a LittleMark Tube 800 and an SVT-HLF cab. I previously had the VT Bass v1, and as other reviews I have read stated, that one was a little "clicky". That problem seems to have gone away with this one. I power this thing with phantom power with an XLR cable from my amp. Saves me having to use batteries or lug around an adapter. The adjustments are very sensitive. May take a little time to find the sound you are after. I am very happy with this unit.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

I bought this to use with my Fender Precision 4 string Bass. It definitely adds some punch and character to the sound of this bass. However, I also tried using it with my Spector Euro LX 5 string bass -- which has active EMG pickups. Together with the active pickups, this pedal is overkill and the active pickups already have great tone, punch & character. So, in my opinion, for a bass with active pickups, this pedal is unnecessary and overpowers the sound. For a non active pickup Bass, it's a valuable asset.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

Although anything would have been better than the Behringer UltraBass our church was previously using, this little pedal has been a tremendous upgrade. We go straight from the bass into this powerful DI and right on into the sound system. Given that we set up and tear down our entire system each week, this pedal is conveniently sized and durable. It also provides an array of tone options for any style, perfect for the diverse music we incorporate in our services. Would totally recommend this pedal to anyone.

This thing just sounds to good to me. I hope this one lasts. I use it with a jazz base dialed in with the drive about halfway. If you hit it hard you can hear the nice distortion then back off if the part needs to be played a little cleaner. I go directly into a vp26 pre amp for recording. It's the easiest thing I 've ever done.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

I have owned it for about three weeks, and I like it a lot so far. I play rock and to me this is the sound I want. You can dial in a nice flavor of distortion that pairs well with an electric guitar and drums. For two hundred clams it really does sound like a cranked tube head. I run it direct to a CAPI vp26 pre amp for recording and its never been easier. I also use it as a pedal on my Ampeg micro vr and it sounds sweet. I tried it through my Fender solid state Bassman 100 and did not like it as much as the Ampeg. It has a lot of features for shaping your tone plus you can stereo split it if you want.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

After years of hearing about the VT Bass series, I finally went for the VT Bass DI. I have mostly tried it out as a preamp so far, being plugged straight into the FX loop's "return" jack of my GK 1001RB-II, through two Ampeg Classic 410HEN cabinets.

The range of tones in the "Character" control alone is absolutely amazing. The "Bite" effect reminds me of the SVT's "Ultra-Hi" treble boost, and I dig the way the VTDI's "Blend" is interactive with the "Character" and "Drive" controls, while having no effect on the EQ section.

Get one. You won't regret it!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

I would hate to know how much money I've dropped on pedals and amps trying to find "my sound"! At home, I run a Markbass TTE 500 Randy Jackson into an Avatar 12/6. I plugged my new VT Bass in, tried a couple of the suggested settings and settled on the "SVT" setting with my P-Bass, it was dripping with tone. I then plugged in my Jazz Bass, after a couple of minutes of slight adjustments and it too sounded better than ever. At church, we have a Carvin BX 500 into a Carvin 410, a few slight adjustments and it too sounds amazing. I can't believe a reasonably priced DI produces the tone that leaves me grinning from ear to ear. I have a lot of gear to sell on TB as this delivers true greatness!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

I used mine as a pre amp the other night at a gig. The drummer from one of the other bands on the bill asked if my Ampeg gear (410HLF - B2RE) was old. He told me that the bass player in his other band just got an old Ampeg amp and mine sounded just like it. I had it set very close to the reccomended SVT setting. I really like it a lot and can see this box being very useful in the future. If you want classic Ampeg sounds without the cost/weight/maintence, this fits the bill nicely.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI:

There are many other uses for this pedal, however I was primarily going for a clean Ampeg SVT sound with the "Ultra Low" and "Ultra High" on.

I feel this pedal sounds very close, and really gives my 4 x 10 cab some clean deep thump while still articulating those higher tones. The pedal has the ability to really add some gritty overdrive tones, but I prefer more of the clean crisp thump. I have been after that tone for some time, and this is the closest I have been able to get.

The user manual is very helpful with a lot of control setting examples so that you can dial in a tone right away without having to play with it.

Right now, I am running the MarkBass Compressore and this Sansamp VT Bass DI with my Yamaha Attitude 3 bass. Love the tone that I am getting, and have gotten many compliments on it.
