Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

I really enjoy this pedal. I am able to achieve a wide range of sounds. Playing through with passive pickups gives such warm tones. Really fun.
Bought the DC 2 power supply to go with it. Its a no brainer. Buying from Musicians Friend was, as always, an ideal experience.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

I am not usually a fan of stomp boxes. They do great things for guitars, but usually they just make basses sound funny. The BOSS Compression/Sustainer is good with taming an acoustic on overdrive/feedback, but doesn't shape tone much. I've always wanted the big warm cabinet sound out of a smaller solid state amp. This pedal hits the mark!

I'm able to dial up some good tube sound and some nice controlled distortion. (Yes- I'm old school.) Ride up on the character and drive and you get a clean version of dirty, fuzz without static. A wide range of classic or new sounds. This pedal is pricey, but worth it.

Note, this pedal does a lot of the thinking. Plug into active circuit since this bumps up the signal. You can flatten out amp drive and EQ. Do sound control at the pedal and in your pickup. Works like a charm. I'll be working with this one for quite a while. Good product.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

Warm up before you first plug in because this pedal is so much fun to play through you won't want to stop. I have pretty good pre amps on my interface and bass sounded "ok" plugged straight in, but this pedal takes it to a 'whole nutha level'. Fat and warm tones like you've heard on recordings you love. Just buy it.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

After trying many boxes on a search to emulate the warmth of tubes in whatever I plug into, this is may be about as close as you can get without an actual tube in the preamp. In my opinion, this sounds better than the MarkBass Distorsore which actually has a tube driver (but not a 12AX7)! As is often the case, the controls are quite sensitive. The results from careful tweaking range from a fairly warm and wide Hi-Fi sound to the velvet of an SVT to the whatever wild overdrive one might be seeking. Close to "Tubeyness", but still just a touch synthetic. It seems fairly well made: the pots have just the right tension, the jacks have a positive feel, the stomp activation has a light touch (maybe too light)and the case is rugged metal. This is a keeper, but I still prefer the TubeWorks BlueTube which has not been made in years; it runs a 12AX7 tube with an internal AC supply. Still, my old BlueTube is noisy, and the VT Bass is nice and quiet. But if you want the organic warmth of tubes, you need the tube that does it.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

I rarely find that pedals/effects help a bass guitar sound better in a busy band mix. When I do, it's usually something like compression or EQ - I occassionally use a Diamond Bass Comp, Aguilar Tone Hammer and/or Aguilar TLC Comp. However, I have to admit that the VT Bass has become an exception. It is an excellent tool for both "sound shapping" (used prior to a bass amp as an effect) and for "direct to PA/power amp/recording console" applications. Since getting the VT Bass I've yet to play a gig without having it in line before my amp. My Warwicks and MM Sterling along with my Mesa Carbine amps/PH cabs and GK MB amps/NEO cabs combinations all tend to have a more "modern, high fidelity sound". Although I enjoy their quick, punchy response and how distinctly they sit in the mix, I've always wondered if there was a way to get just a touch of tube warmth added in (a little more like my Mesa Walkabout, but without the "soft edged, blooming bass" characteristic). The VT Bass allows me to dial in a bit of that "old school tube warmth" and still deliver it with a fast, clean, clear punch that helps the bass sit nicely in the mix. I play everything from Rock to Country to Bluegrass and I find the VT Bass addds something I like to all those styles. This is one of my favorite pieces of gear and, for the money, there isn't a single thing I can think of that can provide so many useful/useable options to re-shape your sound in real time. While it certainly doesn't do everything the amps/cabs it seeks to model can, you would be hard pressed to find fault in a live performance situation in terms of what it delivers versus what it was designed to do. Additionally, it's analog (which also helps with long battery life), introduces no noise (either when on or off) and doesn't alter the basic tone of the instrument when I have it in line, but switched off. Having this newer version which allows the cabinet simulation to be switched on or off is a big plus over the original as I tend to like using the pedal without the cab sim engaged. Deisgned and built in the USA, great price and a great sound - I'm not sure it gets better than that for me.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

The Sansamp VT Bass makes any bass rig sound better. It utilizes a combination of eq, overdrive, unique tone circuitry, and cabinet emulation to achieve exceptional tone from your bass guitar. While I am not sure that it will make any bass rig sound like an SVT amp and a 8x10 cab, it certainly translates the positive characteristics of this setup into whatever it's put inline with.
Build quality is top notch, as is the case with all Tech21 products.
Price is well worth it. If there is only ONE thing you can afford to buy to make your bass sound awesome, make it this.

          Totally A Tone Box!!!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

This little pedal has everything I need in it and it works like a charm. The tone you get from this little box makes any disadvantages almost non existant. I wish it would come with a XLR out though. Great product Sansamp!
The character control is very useful for me. I play mostly rock and this little box has everything you would need out of a high priced Ampeg Bass Rig.
Lets just put it this way. I have dropped it several times over the first 2 weeks of owning it and it still works fine. It even survived a fall off of my dad's tool box on his truck to the pavement below. It still works like new and will definetly be a part of my sound for years to come!
For a measely cost its worth every penny for a Versitile tone pedal. Don't think about the price just buy it your bandmates will thank you later!

          Stop thinking, just buy it!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

Incredible pedal, you can get such diverse tones and it adds so much beef lol. I run my thunderbird through this and into my acoustic 20 watt combo amp. I have to keep the amp volume at 2 cause the pedal adds so much sound. Stop thinking about it and just buy it, you wont regret it.
I have it set up so i can get a great warm tone for when I play with my fingers and when i crank the character knob i get a great punchy/distorted tone for when i play with a pick. This pedal is amazing
Built like a tank, everything seems great
just the character knob alone is worth all the money lol. This thing is totally worth the money

          AWESOME!!!!

          By Shane Kelly

          from Florida

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

Overall it's incredibly versatile and from the reviews of the Programmable Bass DI, I think this one is the better and cheaper choice of the two IMHO.
I would recommend this to any bassist. This little box can make the crappiest solid state amp sound like anything from an SVT to a GK. There are some suggested settings which is a great way to start but I found if you put everything at 12:00 you can pretty much use the character knob and drive knob to get anything you need and just tweek bass/treb/mid to suit the room. The character knob all the way to the left at 9:00 you are in SVT land and at 3:00 you are at slap bass land. Took it to a rehearsal where I was filling in for a show and they had a tiny Peavey amp with a 12" speaker and 50 watts maybe. I played through it for a minute to see what it would do, plugged in this pedal and it was like adding another 50 watts and tons of tone. They were blown away as was I. I never leave home without it!!!
Seems as rugged as any other pedal.
For the $$$$ it's a steal to get this kind of tone!!

          Holy Cow!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Character Series VT Bass V2 Distortion Bass Effects Pedal:

See value. This thing is my favorite toy right now. I didn't think I would use it to the exclusion of almost everything else. It's small, easy to transport and gets me the sound I want. Get it, if you're a bassist who loves a great vintage tone. If you have a fender or Music Man bass, any decent Ampeg Cab, decent power amp or good ss amp you will have the sound.
It is really simple to use but you can get a complex variety of tones. If you crave a vintage tone or just great overdrive.....holy cow.
It hasn't given me a bit of trouble, it seems light and that is a concern because it is meant to be stomped on to be honest, I just turn it on and don't touch it. Once in a while I'll press the button that switches cabinet emulations. I love this thing. The Character knob is it for me.
If there was a 20 for value I'd get it. They are giving these things away. I own a Tech 21 PSA1.1, I own an RBI (rack) and an RPM (Rack) I love them all, I love the SansAmp tone (which is really to me just a great vintage Ampeg tone thru the right cabinets). Well this little bugger for less than 1/2 the price of any of those coveted rack units gets me amazing tone. I use it with a MarkBass LMIII or with my Stewart World 2.O and all I can say is....SVT or Flip Top? My goodness I love it and it really inspires my playing in a great way. This is the tone I always strive for, I didn't think I could get it so economically.
