(Open Box) Great value and tone in a super-portable head.
The Tech 21 VT Bass 500 is a 500-Watt bass amp head, with an all-analog SansAmp„¢ pre-amp and Class D power amp. It is formulated with the same proprietary technology as Tech 21's SansAmp Character Series VT Bass DI pedal. The unique Character control sweeps through decades of some of the most distinctive bass amp tones on the planet. Drive adjusts the overall amount of gain and overdrive, similar to when the output of a tube amp is being pushed. A Blend control allows you to blend the direct instrument signal with the SansAmp Tube Amplifier Emulation circuitry. The Bite switch activates a presence boost, which tightens up the sound when you are in distorted settings. It also adds definition to your notes when playing in cleaner settings.
Power: 500W RMS @ 4 ohms; 300W RMS @ 8 ohms

Comments about Tech 21 VT 500W Bass Amp Head:
So I've had this thing for a few months now, and I wanted to really learn this thing before leaving a review. I'm typically skeptical of leaving 5 star reviews. I wanted to find something that I disliked... or something seriously negative.
I've had experience with numerous heads... Ampeg, Hartke, SWR, Aguilar... you name it I've tried t. Ultimately I ended up getting a Kemper to supplement all of those tones. My Kemper ended up remaining a studio tool, as I've grown paranoid to it getting stolen. I decided to seek cheap heads to practice and play live that sounded decent. Lo and behold I see Tech21 dropped a head that's not heavy on the wallet.
Let me say that this thing is hands down my favorite head I've ever owned. The versatility is astonishing. I started playing bass approximately 11 years ago. I play a 6 string bass as my primary these days. This thing handles the low B just as well as it handles the hi C and everything in between with ease. The 500 watt head weighing in at just 6.5lbs bring plenty of power and volume to a convenient package. I can use this thing to get any deep sub low tone, thumpy funk, gritty rock, and heavily distorted metal tone.
Seriously this thing is a steal. You will absolutely get a tone you love. The DI Out and the VT preamp make this thing as fantastic in the studio as any SansAmp product without compromise. Pull the trigger and buy it. You'll never feel the need to look back. If the only complaint I have is the cooling fan being a bit noisy, then I'd say I'm grasping at straws to find a flaw.
