I just got this pedal for christmas. I knew that sansamps were great, and after finding one for such a low price, I couldn't help but jump on it! I play for a church worship band, a metal band, and now a jazz band. So my style is constantly changing, and this little pedal can keep up. It pumps out the classic tone for jazz and worship, then real grunge for metal. It really suprised me how hard you could get this thing to drive. And the quality, you can tell its super solid. I totally recommend this pedal to anyone looking for great new tone, and even some distortion possibilities! 5 out of 5!
Top ratings for this miraculous little box that makes ANY bass amp sound great. Be sure to order a power supply, too, as you'll probably never want to turn this thing off.
This little box is not just for overdrive - even keeping the tone clean, it adds a whole lot to the sound. It does a particularly great job of spicing up amps that lack tone control - for my upright bass I have a 1964 all-tube Kay bass amp that really lacked something... added this box, and voila! Tone! And when used in conjunction with my SVT and 8x10 cab, well, it sounds exactly the same only more so. Overall, a surprisingly versatile and useful box that makes tone problems go away instantly. Seriously!
The first time I plugged into my VT Bass pedal was to record a bass track for an internet "team" recording project. It was so easy to dial in... just like operating a real amp (using your ears) and dialing in the "character" required. When I submitted the track to my "team" I also posted a mix of the demo with my VT Bass track mixed in. Everyone raved about the quality and tone of the bass track and wanted to know how I recorded it! It worked great for me ...recommended!
As just about everyone has stated, I also have been on a "tone quest" (for the past 17 years) trying every bass/amp/cab/pedal combo imaginable, and always able to get a good sound out of what I was playing... but not "the" sound. I read the reviews, took a chance with this pedal, and now I am literally smiling. I now know what people mean when they talk about tone having "texture" and "depth"... it is not a processed or EQ thing, but it is unmistakeable when you hear it. This little guy will change your life... rock, country, funk, R&B, progressive, it doesn't matter. You will love the tone and character this pedal has to offer.
This little box will make any bass amp sound great. A small investment for big bass sound -- with one of these in your gig bag you are prepared for any situation. Make sure to get the DC adapter, cuz you'll want to leave this on.
Always looking for that great bass sound? The Tech 21 VT Bass Pedal was a dream come true for me. I can get so many cool sounds from it that I'm no longer searching for a great sound. It's easy to use and the Character knob makes it easy to dial in that specific sound you want. And there's a lot of sound in this one little knob!!! Believe me. This is a great product and worth every penny. Get one, you won't be disappointed.
I bought this spot on from recommendations on talkbass from other bass players who owned vintage b15's and SVT's who were exclaiming how they could get the same sound of the mic'd vintage gear from this little box. Low and behold they are completely right, this is one awesome amplifier simulation unit. I run mine all the time, and use it to drive signals to sound men who no longer have to EQ me and always say the tone is awesome regardless of the bass. Stop thinking about it, buy it and transform your blah into wow.
Stop reading reviews for this product. Don't think. Just buy. I don't work for sansamp, but i did have really blah bass tone. This sounds amazing though my practice amp, though i have yet to use it at practice/gigs. I'm sure it will sound just as good.If your bass tone sux, this will likely fix the problem.
I've searched for the right overdriven sound for my bass for a long time, and been through a number of pedals, including the very nice Tech 21 Bass Driver. But nothing was ever quite what I was looking for.I decided to try the VT Bass, based largely on its reviews. Right out of the box, after turning two or three knobs, there it IS! I was stunned.Do you want the sound of "Jack Casady Playing A Jazz Bass Through A Versatone"? It's right there!Or maybe "Mel Shacher Playing A Jazz Bass Through A Wide-Open West Amp"? Back off the Character knob, and it's right there!"My" sound is about halfway between, and I can't believe it was this easy to get.Thank you Tech 21, and thank you Musician's Friend for a great deal on a used model!
I have always wanted to get that deep SVT growl. But I didn't want to lug the equipment. I got one of these. I run it through the effects loop of my Mark Bass 102p. With all of the Mark Bass controls set to nuetral except for the vintage control. I set the Tech21 controls to SVT and play. It feels like I am playing the SVT. I get that deep growl I have looked for. Good pedal.
I can't say that it makes your bass sound like you are running through an Ampeg, but I can say that it is a great DI device, very responsive and it makes you feel like your playing anamp'd bass, meaning the signal is fatter, punchier and morelively than a DI signal. I love the tone controls. I have runthis through my amp and it tightened up the signal in a good way. The character and drive knobs give you a nice range of dirtand fuzz. For the price of a cheap practice amp, you get greattone controls, nice over drive and a nice DI. Well worth it.
It's the OverDrive pedal I was waiting for. This pedal is really amazing. I use it clean for tone shaping, overdrive or full distortion. Thanks to the character knob. It's even a good old school fuzz. I plug this pedal in front of a Mark Bass amp and it gives me this SVT-Classic compression, dept, crunch... and tone. The only thing better then this is a real SVT. I switch it off when I want the MarkBass tone.I sometime use a BassMuff and or a QTron in front of it.After trying and owning many expensive distortion pedals, I now own only a Tech 21 VT Bass and a EH BassMuff.
