Comments about Vox AC15VR Valve Reactor 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:
Like I said before, I wanted a reasonably priced tube amp, and that is exactly what this is. I give it an overall rating of nine because of the lack of genuine spring reverb but that shouldn't give anyone reservations about this amp. I stupidly almost forgot to mention the most important thing about this amp; THE TONE!!!! So the amp has a clean channel, with classic clean tones that sound amazing through single coils (long live the strat!). In addition, it has two overdrive channels. The first is traditional gritty overdriven tube tone that is great for blues. The second channel is this epic violently saturated overdrive that rattles the walls and melts your face. So in conclusion, if this is an amp you've been considering...stop it and buy the thing!!!
One of the many things I love about vox amps is their simplicity. They don't ruin the amps with rediculous digital amp and pedal models (at least with MOST of their amps). It's just a series of simple features for simply pure and beautiful tone. My only complaint in this area is the fact that it doesn't use spring reverb. But considering the price range, it's still an incredible amp. And the digital reverb means there is no risk of damage when packing the thing around.
The quality is fantastic! What more do you want me to say!? I will say more however because I like to talk. lol A good friend of mine bought one of these amps last year, before I was familiar with Vox, and he loved it. We got together for a "marathon" jam and that thing sounded great all night long!! Well shortly after that, I bought one and have NOT regretted it. These amps are solid, sturdy, and most importantly light, making them great for travel.
I bought this amp here through MF, so it's obviously going to cost much less than it's actually worth. However, this is still a very affordable amp, which is why I considered it in the first place. I've had other amps in this price range, and quite frankly, they were trash. I highly recommend this to any guitarist who doesn't want to take out a freakin loan to get his/her hands on a quality amp.

love this amp!!! beautiful cleans and gets dirty when needed. takes to pedals nicely. if you're on a budget, this is what you need.
gave it a 9 because the digital reverb could be better.
Comments about Vox AC15VR Valve Reactor 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:
I recently purchased the Vox AC15VR largely on the strength of reviews. I also own a Vox VT-80 which I am also happy with but was looking for a good sounding straight up amp without modeling or digital effects. I can get those from my effects units. I play out so it's nice to have a backup amp as well. The Vox AC15VR is larger than my VT-80 but only weighs about 5 pounds more at 36 pounds. (which is substantially lighter than the all tube AC15 and AC30 amps by Vox) making both of these amps very portable for gigging. The hybrid Vox AC15VR has 3 sound settings, clean (which I use mostly) and also has 2 very nice over drive options. The overall sound is excellent, cleaner than my Vox VT-80 and it can get fairly loud. As mentioned by other reviewers, it has any annoying pop when you turn it on and off. That is the worst thing I can say about it. I am very pleased with this amp and Musician's Friend delivered it safely and in a timely fashion. I highly recommend this amp.
Comments about Vox AC15VR Valve Reactor 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:
Overall this is a great amp. The place where I practice has Vox valvetronix amps and the ac15 model is dull and lifeless in comparison to the AC15vr. Side by side the VR blows the valvetronix out of the water. Although I haven't used an all tube AC15 I get the feeling that the VR would stand up pretty well. I think the secret is the normal channel, which I would recommend cranking (as opposed to the Vox manual, which suggests cranking the master volume) It has a very tube like character; very open and very responsive. If you play softly you get a glassy clean tone and when you dig in it gets very gritty and agressive. In comparison the OD channel quite dull. It takes pedals well and this thing is LOUD as hell. I've gigged with it a lot and with the channel volume cranked I barely have to go past 10 o'clock on the master for small clubs. Highly recommended for gigging guitarists on a budget.
Two channels, normal and overdrive. The overdrive channel has two settings, one lower gain and one high gain. Master volume, digital reverb, treble and bass. I give 7 because it could do with a tremolo in my opinion.
It's a solid piece of kit. Although the cab is made of particle board I'm not sure how much this affects the tone. The speaker is a generic celestion but sounds good. However, the speaker "pops" when turning the amp on an off. From what I have read this seems to be a common fault. It's annoying but so far it hasn't led to any more serious problems. May make it more difficult to sell but who knows.
I think this amp represents very good value. Although there are some minor questions about the quality, the tone and practicality more than make up for these.

If you like tube sound thats the thing you need. Great clean sound, excelent for jazz and blues, put all the way gain button and you'll get crunch sound for Zeppelin and Ac/DC. My Gibson Les Paul Standard just love it. And inportant thing, you don't need to spend lott of money for it.

I bought a vox instead of a fender if that means anything; I just really like their sound. It's just about loud enough for a jazz kit but you need two of them for rock. I mostly use this amp for playing at low volume when I want to practice. It likes pedals.
Comments about Vox AC15VR Valve Reactor 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:
I like old rock "chimey" sound and like the Vox sound in that regard. Before buying the AC15VR, I put it side by side in the store with a new AC15 classic all-tube amp. Both made in China. Not much different in price for me, and thought I'd just go with the classic. But, the two amps sounded very similar. Obviously the classic AC15 is the premise for the AC15VR, but honestly, there wasn't a lot of difference in the sound settings. The clean and Overdrive 1 setting of the AC15VR sounds very close to the actual classic AC15. Couldn't hardly tell the difference in the tube breakup sound quality. Neither could the others around. I guess the valve reactor technology works. Once the classic AC15 warmed up, though, the tubes did do a better job (of course) in lingering on the edge of creative feedback when I wanted it. The Overdrive 2 channel of the AC15VR is good for more distorted work and emulated more along the line of an Ibanez Tube Screamer at higher gain settings. What I liked about the AC15VR is that it sounded better and more flexible with my multieffects pedals, as I could get a cleaner sound with the amp as a basis to use the pedal. In the end, I went with the cheaper AC15VR. I appreciated the simplicity of the controls. There's not fifty amp simulations and effects to navigate through and a "knob forest" to deal with. That's why I have pedals. The volume is adequate for me, as I don't need massive sound. I mike the cab at gigs anyway. As for the negatives, I wish there was an XLR direct out. They should also provide a footswitch standard with the amp. One of the major positives is that it looks great. The insides are particle board, though. The grill doesn't have the inner protection of the classic AC15. But for the price, what do you expect? It works great for classic Vox sound and is good with multi-effects pedals. Also great soundcapes at lower volumes at home.
