From vintage to mainstays and beyond
Over the years, numerous delay effects have come along; tape echoes, analog delays, digital delays, etc. Each has varied by type, manufacturer, and internal structure. From the distinctive distortion and warmth of tape, the unique tonal change produced by an analog BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) circuit, to the lo-fi sound typical of low-resolution digital circuitry, the VOX DelayLab delivers perfect models for a carefully selected set of historically significant delay units that have fascinated guitarists through the years. There are also numerous special types of effects such as pitch change, panning, and reverse. Delay innovations
The DelayLab also contains numerous practical and original delay effects that will inspire any guitarist. Dual Delay makes effective use of two delays; Distortion Delay adds distortion to only the delayed sound; Reverse Delay can adjust the mix ratio between forward and reverse sound; Space Delay applies a string-like tonal effect to deepen the sound. Integrated Stereo Looper

Thirty stage-ready preset programs The thirty preset programs take full advantage of the DelayLab's extensive features and parameters. Editable and re-writable, these programs range from simple and versatile types, to complex and distinctive effects. There are also programs that reproduce the delay sound of famous guitarists as heard on classic recordings.

First of all, let's get the manual issue out of the way. It's terrible! Incredibly vague and definitely requires previous experience with digital delay units. That being said, it is NOT hard at all to get a great setting and tweek it to your specs. The knobs work the same way all delay units work (delay type, delay time, feedback, level, etc). The real "vague manual" problem is with programming and display. Again, with previous delay unit experience, it's not immpossible, but Vox definitely leaves you in the dark.
Now, let's get to what really counts... sound quaility and useful versatility. In this department, the DelayLab is among the best. I have a "legendary" analog delay pedal (made in NYC), and the DelayLab sounds identical when on analog with matched settings. The delays are warm and lush on every setting. As for versatility, this unit has everything you could need in a delay pedal. The only feature it does not have is MIDI capability (which could be a deal breaker for some). But, I'm thinking that this is the reason the unit is priced reasonably. Otherwise, the sound quality is as good as I've heard. Because of this, I'm keeping it despite the manual.

As the name implies the "Delaylab" gives you the opportunity to experiment with an unlimited number of delay sounds. I should have bought a simpler delay pedal. The Delaylab was way too much for my needs. I spent hours and hours, taking notes of my favorite settings, only to be confused at which ones I liked best for particular songs. I became frustrated with the many, many, many options, and I finally decided that a simpler delay pedal would be more useful for me. The owner's manual was not helpful at all, and youtube videos did little to explain the settings. It's not me. It was a distraction from actually playing and concentrating on my music.

For the money, you can't get a better versatile and stellar quality delay unit.
Th manual is vague at best on how to dial in the best delays and modulations.Vox doesn't have anything on details on their website either,but it's very new and it's only a matter of time til more users show up on youtube to video and elaborate on all the functions(which are many)!
Once you get the functions nailed down, you won't gig without it again,I'm certain!

This pedal is fantastic. It feels solid and well-made. The foot switches are possibly the smoothest and quietest I've ever used. The seamless transition feature makes changing between effects in mid song flawless. There's no click or moment of silence. The interface is pretty intuitive. There are many delays to choose from, and most are pretty useful. The looper is incredibly fun and useful. I'd pay for this pedal for the looper alone. All the delays are just icing on the cake. Many of the delays can be adjusted to create other types of effects, such as pitch shifting and chorus. It even explains how to achieve these effects in the manual.
Overall, a great piece of equipment, and well worth the money. I just wish it came with a power supply.
