OVERVIEW

Classic, smooth fuzz tone in an easy-to-use pedal.

Sometimes, it's not about chasing a tone from one specific piece of equipment, it's about capturing the tones from the entire signal chain. Looking back through history, there have been some truly outstanding fuzz tones. In particular, the tones achieved by running a fuzz into a screaming stack. The kind of tones that are just earth shattering in their depth, aggression and smoothness.

Brian Wampler, who's always looking for the best tones to capture, decided the chase was on. Taking the base tones from a very famous pedal and the characteristics of a famous stacked, EL34 driven, amp - decided it was about time those tones were brought together in pedal format.

If you are a fan of the tones of the players like David Gilmour or Eric Johnson, then it could be that the Velvet Fuzz is the pedal you are looking for.
The key to the tone of the Velvet is the voicing switch. In the "big" position, the pedal reacts like a classic fuzz. Loads of internal compression and truly massive tones it really is that "tone" from that "era". Dropping the volume back cleans it up perfectly so your rhythm can remain clear enough and then your solos will flatten all those who dare to stand before you.

In the "tight" position, the tone comes in and you get the feeling you have swapped amps as well, those mammoth tones but without the compression and other traits that many fuzz players love ... Yes, that's right. If you love the tone of fuzz but not the reaction of it, this is the setting on the pedal that is for you.

Made my other fuzz pedal obsolete...

Comments about Wampler Velvet Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

I had been hearing a lot about this pedal and saw nothing but great online and print reviews but I'd been led astray before, so I passed. I'm not a big fuzz user but wanted one on my board for at least a few songs. I finally ordered this (knowing full well of MF's excellent return policy) and I have to say it is one of the most satisfying purchases I've ever made. The fuzz is, as the pedal name implies, velvety smooth. No harsh or raspy overtones whatsoever. The Brightness control really sets this pedal apart. That was always my problem with fuzz pedals: Once you got the sustain you wanted you pretty much lost all high end clarity. Not so here. The Fat setting, to me at least, is more *uff like but not as over the top. The Tight setting has amazing clarity and cleans up beautifully. At lower gain settings the Tight position can be used as a mild distortion or even an overdrive which gives this pedal a lot of versatility. It does, as Wampler states, combine all of the things you like about fuzz and excludes the bad.I used it recently at an audition with my 335 and received some nice compliments on my sound. I've already unloaded 2 other fuzz pedals. Just a great pedal for a variety of uses.

Comments about Wampler Velvet Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

Huge huge sound. Responds best to a clean-ish amp setting. Love the big/tight toggle. I find that I keep it on tight and use it for heavy distortion tones.

Comments about Wampler Velvet Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

Usual Wampler quality evident. As with all dirt pedals, this really sounds better through a clean or slightly overdriven amp. Running it into an already saturated amp doesn't sound near as good. It's a versatile fuzz w/ vintage fuzz and some more almost distortion pedal dirt on tap. Good w/ singles or buckers.
