A bass that'll to show off your toughest chops.

Bassist Gene Simmons teamed up with Cort to produce this stunning version of his legendary Axe electric bass. This bass is authorized by Gene Simmons, and each Axe is adorned with Gene's signature on the headstock. The Cort Axe Bass reproduces the bass guitar Gene made so famous—the same style of bass that Gene plays onstage, and it can be yours at a fantastic price.

The axe-shape body has the same style and flare as the demon's own, complete with a painted silver blade on a shiny black, insane-looking axe-head. The bass guitar's mahogany body produces crisp tone with plenty of heavy bass for that signature Detroit Rock City sound. The rosewood fretboard and EB6 4-string bridge add clarity to the Gene Simmons Axe, so you get definition with each note you strike.

At the heart of the axe-shaped Simmons bass is its electronics system. The Mighty Mite MMJB-R and MMPB-4 pickups produce clear, bright tone, with low noise. Controls include Volume, Tone, and a toggle switch to select the bridge or mid pickups, so you can dial in your ultimate demon tone.

Each Cort Gene Simmons Axe boasts a chrome bridge cover, which adds to the overall beauty of this monster and protects your hand from sharp saddle screws. The bass is equipped with Gene's signature on the headstock and delivered a Gene Simmons custom gig bag.

    not too bad

I won this bass in a contest so I really have no right to complain about anything. Therefore, I will write a review as if I had paid for this.

I won this bass in a contest so I really have no right to complain about anything. Therefore, I will write a review as if I had paid for this.

Pros: It looks great. The finish is real nice. It's real solid. Out of the box it was actually playable; not bad for under $500

Cons: This is definitely not a practice bass. You can't sit and play it very well. It's best suited for being played onstage for a few songs. It's a bit neck heavy. The pots need reset. They are offset, which can cause the knobs to grind into the finish. The gig bag has a giant picture of Gene's mug on it. That's not an issue if you're 15 years old.

If you want to spend a few bucks on some new pickups and a nice setup, you will have a damn good bass.

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons AXE Electric Bass Guitar:

I have had this nearly 2 months now and still stand by my original review with one exception. I changed the pickups to Dimarzio DP126 and it makes an incredible difference. I read someghere that the mighty mites were good for the bedroom/studio but not live and this is SPOT ON. the for the price I still rate 5 stars. Also, if you are looking to upgrade from the ugly gig bag I have found that this fits nicely in the coffin univeral bass case.

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons AXE Electric Bass Guitar:

Read all the reviews, researched on youtube and finally dropped the hammer during the spring sale. After installing the strap button I was off to band practice at the studio. I was very impressed with the playability and sound of this instrument. After reading the reviews I figured I would have to replace the pickups but this is not the case. I was going through a GK 300W and 8 tens and they sound great. They are here to stay! No problems cutting through the mix and the bass has a nice growl and is punchy. I have read that they are too clean, but I don't understand those comments. The neck is perfect and no protruding frets etc... I was happy with the amount of neck relief and the height of the action. It's a pretty fast neck and reminds me of my Thunderbird IV or Fender precision. It's not as chunky as my Warwick Thumb. The intonation is perfect. The only complaints are the neck dive and Gene's face on the gig bag, but who cares I'm playing an AXE!!!

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons AXE Electric Bass Guitar:

I knew this wasn't a players instrument from the get go. I just wanted something to jam and have fun with. My first axe came with its fretboard separated from the neck at the first three frets, and the finish was chipping off at the edges of the body. all of this while still in the box. I have a replacement on the way now...but I will definitely be a little hesitant to really play it hard.

It's simple. If you are a Kiss fan, and you have the money, buy it. It's fun. Plays better than expected. Don't plan on this as your main bass unless you are in a Kiss cover band.

                Gene Simmons Axe Bass Guitar

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons AXE Electric Bass Guitar:

A childhood dream of mine to have an axe like Gene. I am a casual player, and this thing is not very comfortable to play, but its worth every dime just to hang it like a piece of art.
Simple volume, tone dials. Pickup toggle. Amazing finish.
Excellent quality for inexpensive piece. Again, finish is perfect. Strong sound with minimite pu's, difficult to play while seated due to shape.
For the price, its worth it to hang it up like artwork.

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons AXE Electric Bass Guitar:

Only negative I could muster up is the huge screen of Genes face on the gig bag...I would have preferred a black bag with Genes embroidered signature, or even just a plain black bag with a Cort logo, but you know Gene...go large or go home. For a great price you can get a MF deluxe bass case that fits and save yourself the emberassment.
Awesome Bass, Only reason you would get this is you LOVE Kiss, you are in a Kiss tribute band, or you collect stuff...I Love Kiss and collect stuff. I am not a bass player, actually play a little guitar, but what Kiss fan would be without this thing...it is freakin awesome! Gene sells the pro version of this guitar on his site autographed...(who has that kind of cash, not me) .I got mine here at MF for a tenth of the price. I would bet that other than a set neck, higher end pups, better wood, and a hardshell case, the two are almost identicle. So, as far as features go, its a bass, it looks like an AXE...what more do you need to know...
Awesome quality for the money. Actually a steal. Gene made the comment in an interview that the fans wanted an Axe bass they could afford and he delivered....THANK YOU GENE! Us Kiss fans deserve only the best.
Again, compared to the elite version, this is a complete bargain.
