WOW! I bought the Dean Edge 8 8 string bass with high expectations and it met AND exceeded all of them! It came in with no need for a set up or the neck needing any tweeking (I had it checked), which is surprising since it was sold on-line. The tone is absolutely amazing with super low end and great highs. It is the perfect addition to my collection and will probably be the main bass for playing live and for recording.
Excellent guitar! Amazing sound and completely ready to play live, right out of the box!
Totally worth the money!

An utter waste of time and money. The bridge is in the wrong location, and can not be intonated. The metal "hardware" is made of soft cheese. Screws can not be turned. They will strip out IMMEDIATELY.
This is a useless piece of garbage. There is no excuse for such nonsense being made today.
Dean was once a respected name in the industry.
Dean should consider making guitars out of molded plastic.

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

I've had this bass for a few days now. Super cool sound, pretty easy to play. This is my first bass with more strings than 4. About 10 minutes of noodling got me acclimated to the setup. It arrived by mail from MF in tune (no kidding!) and ready to play. Four knobs: pickup pan control, volume, and separate treble / bass eq controls. Pickups are active and it comes with a battery installed (yay!).

The look is awesome, IMO. It doesn't scream "HEY I'M an 8 STRINGER!" It's subdued and sexy.

The bass came with no literature, so I was left to figure out what the knob functions and layout were on my own. I sent an e-mail to Dean about that and they replied within a few hours with all the technical info. Nice response, but this stuff should be in the box.

The neck seems right-sized for having 8 strings. The neck finish is natural satin, which is fine. My experience with satin finished necks is that the feel improves with time as you play, and I expect that to be the case with this guitar.

I really enjoy playing this bass. The body is shaped right, it fits well with my play style and sounds incredible. Fits into a standard sized bass case / gig bag. Highly recommended.

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

I was impressed with the big sound, loud pick-ups, low action, perfect set-up right out of the box, great tone of the roundwounds, comfortable weight balance of the neck, tight tuners, great value. I also purchased the formfit hardshell case which was a great value. This bass will fill the void in a three piece group. Just wait till you play it on Hendrix "Fire" or "Play That Funky Music" or "Funk 49"....

        Dud Pre-amp

        By grammaton

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

I am very happy with my Dean Edge 8, now that it's working. When I first got it, there were a couple loose wires, and so it would stop producing noise after a few minutes of playing. I got the pre-amp replaced (Dean was nice enough to send it for free), and now it plays like a dream. The pickups could be a bit more powerful but besides that it's a great instrument.

        Big 8 String Sound!

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

An 8 String bass has a sound that is truely unique. In the studio this Dean 8 string sounds great clean or dirty. If you want a big sound try this 8 string through an overdiven tube amp.Clean, it sounds like a piano. The brass nut is a big plus. The pickups are great!I'm very happy with the Edge 8 String!

        An incredible bass

        By El Roberto

        from Eatontown, NJ

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

I was looking for a new bass to upgrade from my Squier Standard Jazz, I was always interested in 8 strings, so I went ahead and bought myself this bass. Dean did an INCREDIBLE job with it. It played perfectly right out of the box with little tuning adjustment needed. It takes a few seconds to get used to the slightly wider neck, but it's very easy to play regardless if this is your first 8 string or not. Tone is incredible on this, thanks in part to the active electronics. This is now my main axe and I recommend it to anyone.

        Recently bought this bass

        By Anonymous

Comments about Dean Edge 8 8-String Electric Bass:

I've only had my Dean a few days but I felt compelled to write something about it here. This bass is amazing. I bought it to play in my metal band, we tune down to drop C and the octave up strings really help the overall sound coming from a bass tuned that low. The band all love it too, I thought that it might be too much in a band with two guitarists (who both have a pretty bass heavy sound) but it compliments their sound nicely. The extra octave cuts through the bands mix but it doesn't dominate it, you still get a nice extra low thud from the regular strings too.Playing wise its pretty easy to play. I can slap on it fine, the only thing which I find a bit harder is right hand backslaps (scraping my thumb accross the strings) but I've got used to it pretty much already. Some chords are a bit tricky too. In fact I think this bass is easier to play than a regular one in many respects.I also own a Fender Jazz, an Ibanez BTB400QM and a Honer BBass V - the Dean is the best sounding of them all. This bass should cost twice as much.
