Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
I've had this bass for almost a year and am thrilled by its sound! I am only 5'tall with small hands, but I can handle this 5 string! Just last night, the drummer and several others commented on the tone of this bass. Superior Value!!!
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
Good bass sound. I've noticed that while tuning the tone on 12 fret is always a little sharp compared to the open string. The volume pods were scratchy. It became so annoying that it would cut off during performance. I finally got fed up and sent it to Dean (for warranty repair). They replaced the circuit board and now its been fine since they fixed it.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
I got this baby from my father as a gift, and it is my second bass. When I first picked it up, I knew it wasn't a cheap, low quality bass. It felt solid and it fit really great in my arms. It looks just as good as it plays. Absolutly amazing. Now I see why Dimebag used Deans. Overall, a great bass with an unbelievable price!
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
I have had this bass for about a year and everytime I do a show someone always compliments how good this bass looks. I really love how this bass feels. I also love the sound it has. The only problem I have encountered is the volume pot gets scratchy. Just replace the factory pots and you're good. If this bass had an EQ you would never need another bass. Dean you guys did a great job on this one. I'd buy another one in a minute.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
What can I say? With EMG pick-ups, beautiful maple top, light weight, scorching looks, this bass has it all. This is a fantastic bass for anyone who is serious about their music. It's definately a great buy.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
Heckuva bass for the money. I've been playing this instrument for 6 to 12 hours a week for 4 or 5 years. I love this instrument. Sounds real solid, though it gets muddy with old strings (don't they all?). 35" scale makes the B string more usable. It's heavy, but not foolishly so. Dual EMG's have dual volume control, and only a 2-band EQ, but it is very usable! I play the whole neck, and it's mostly comfortable to do so. One volume pot started getting a little noisy this month. This is a great bass for the money! It's not what I'd call a "starter" bass, but probably your "second" or "third" bass.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
I have owned this bass for about four years. I have never had a problem with it. Ever. Good tones to work with, versatile active electronics, and its a very, very playable bass. Suitable for many styles from psycho Primus-funk to bluesy-jazz. I love the neck shape and the 35" scale, which helps me retain string stability when I tune down. This bass is a great buy.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
Although my last 5-string bass was a fender jazz, I had little difficulty adjusting to the narrower neck ( or string spacing ). I find I've become a little faster on this bass without sacrificing tone and percussion. I'm old school and my playing style is more BS&T and Soul than Slap, But I'm finding this a very good bass for learning that technique. I bought this bass from a friend who found the spacing too narrow for him so he gave me a killer deal. however, I would gladly pay list or better for this fun to play bass.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
I have been playing bass for 30 years and own some nice guitars for the hoffners and P-basses to the classic T-birds. The Edge Q5 give me all of the features and sounds of all of my other guitars combined without the weight and neck ache! When we were in the studio (a well known one) the main engineer while were setting the levels ask me "what kind of processing are you using?". I told him I was direct without processing. He was amazied and said "what a sound! This is the sound that's hard to get even with processing. It's a sound man's dream" He's right. The Q5 Looks awsome, plays like a dream (even to the 23rd fret) and has more headroom than anything I've seen, played, touched or heard. What a buy! Thank-you Dean! By the way Thanks for the acoustic/electric 5 string.
Comments about Dean Edge Q5 Quilted 5-String Bass:
i really like this bass. i've had it for about a year now and it feels as nice as some really expensive basses with a very nice tight B string and lovely true neck. i do have two complaints though... the basswood body deprives the bass of aggressive tone (a spector is better for that) and the bridge is not good for heavy strings. i can't set the intonation right with mine now that i've got a good thick set of strings so i'll need to move the bridge and maybe replace it if i find a good deal. these things considered... a spector is better for some people but this is nonetheless good.
