Plugged or unplugged, it delivers a big, full bass tone.
The Dean Performer Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar gives you plenty of volume and response from its select spruce top on a mahogany body. Its cutaway body lets you get to the high notes with ease. And the 3-band electronics let you plug in and get the sound you want at higher volumes.

I bought this used from the original owner who told me that he had asked for a floor model that was already decently setup. Not sure if that's true or if it matters, the action on mine is somewhere between average and good which equates to excellent considering what I paid for it. It's decently loud played unplugged although with more than one other acoustic guitar, you'd really have to get on it to be heard. I've only played it through my Carvin PB 100-15 bass amp and it sound spectacular through it. Seems very well put together for such an inexpensive model. I love the neck. If you're a really tiny person, you might have trouble with the jumbo body style, but I love it.
I checked out quite a few acoustic basses be fore buying one, and I've gotta say this one seemed the obvious pick. It has a tone that is head & shoulders above anything else I played. It has an extremely warm sound and a rich, full low end. It also has a really comfortable neck...I can play for hours on this bass. This is a great buy!
After playing electric bass for many years, this was my first authentic experience with an acoustic bass. And being a previous proud Dean owner the choice was clear. For the price Dean delivers again in true style. The fit, finish, sound, quality and balance are very good. This would be a good economic choice for a beginner or seasoned player. Nice to just sit at home and get some practice on, or plug in and enjoy.
I have played several acoustic basses and I'd say this one plays really nice. Great action and nice overall tone. Obviously, it's not going to be in the same league as a Tacoma or Martin (you do get what you pay for,) but for the price, it's an excellent choice.
Possibly the best acoustic-electric bass that this site has to offer. It has a great feel to it and plays like a champion. I would suggest this bass for beginners to advanced bass players, if you're looking for an active-style bass to play on the road, around the house, camping, or just goofing around.
Not the best acoustic bass i've played, but for the price, it's a good value. been playing bass since '81 and I really enjoy this one.
I have a home studio. Before I got my Dean Performer, I was using traditional electric basses for recording. I had to use special pre-amps, mess with compression/limiter settings post recording to control the roll and attack of previously used basses. With my Dean Performer, I just plug-and-record. The electronics are clean, the 3 band EQ with presence gives you all the flexible shaping capabiliites you need. The hollow body adds exceptional dynamics to any recording. Sounds better than conventional basses on many projects i've done. Playability is average. It is acoustic so all the same parameters apply (string slap, fret buzz, finger noise etc.. if you are not careful playing it) but you will be hard pressed to get a better sound for the money. Best overall value and a must for your studio for budget minded individuals. Especially if you do acoustic work.
The Dean Performer has an incredibly nice sound, and for the money you would be hard-pressed to find a better bass. I bought this because I own a Dean Exotica, and trusted the Dean name. I was not let down.
Outstanding piece of craftmanship for a great value.
That is exactly what I got when i bought this bass. Plays very well and very well constructed. Played a fender that cost a lot more and the Dean is the one I took home.
