OVERVIEW

A rock classic featuring Gibson TB-Plus humbuckers with ceramic magnets

The Thunderbird IV was first introduced in 1963 and instantly became one of rock's most recognizable bass guitar designs. For almost five decades, the Thunderbird has powered artists as varied as Nikki Sixx, The Who, Kings of Leon, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan and The Silversun Pickups. Turn on your radio and you'll hear a Thunderbird bass. Now, Epiphone takes all the vintage mojo of the original Thunderbird IV and sends it flying into the future with Gibson TB Plus humbuckers with ceramic magnets and all the 'Bird's original styling and features intact.

The Thunderbird IV was one of the most radical designs to come out of the Gibson and Epiphone Kalamazoo factory in the early '60s, thanks to legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich, who was asked to put a new twist on solidbody guitars and basses. The sound of the Thunderbird IV was as cutting edge as its design and now the Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO returns with all of Epiphone's first-class quality and a lifetime guarantee, but without the hassles of owning (or hiding) a vintage instrument. Case sold separately.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO Electric Bass Guitar:

I have had this bass guitar now for over a yr. It is excellent. Right out of the box no set up no mods just great tone! It is lighter than my Fender jazz bass. Im not a fan of Epiphone over Gibson usually. However, this bass blew me away. So easy to play (Im a guitar player playing bass now). Does it dive a bit? Yes. But i can live with that for the tone and the playablility of it. It fell over and hit the concrete floor one day right on the headstock and I was afraid it was done, but only a tiny crack in the clear coat thank god. I play it in my band and we record it direct into the computer and it sounds amazing even before putting it through the virtual amps. I use an Ampeg mini set up as well as the Ampeg svt with a 2x12 light weight cab sounds amazing through both. I play this bass for most of our rock songs with distortion pedals at times. If I want a more round clean bass tone i use my Fender. Hope this helps.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO Electric Bass Guitar:

Great bass I noticed no cons on here so I thought Id point out that this bass is a heavy beast and it WILL hurt your neck if its not setup properly or modified. Also, compared to its Gibson big brother this bass is noticeably not as easy to play. If you are willing to dish out the money to buy this I highly recommend you consider the Gibson version...or go with the epi TB non pro version for five hundred less ...They sound almost identical against each other and the major differences being mainly in the improved sustain with the through body neck. (hardly noticeable having both beside me)

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO Electric Bass Guitar:

What an incredible bass guitar! If you play Rock music then you need to add this Thunderbird to your collection. I own a Rickenbacker 4003, Reverend Rumblefish, Wasburn AB20 and a G & L ASAT Tom Hamilton signature model. Three important salient features. First, the playability is exceptional. Great feel on the neckand the body has a natural place for your thumb in addition to the pick ups and strings. It is way lighter than it looks so there's no strain on the back. Second, the sound is SWEET. My personal favorite is the neck pick up dailed all the way up while the bridge pup is down and the tone knob is on 7-10. To add more punch and growl, just dial the bridge pup in to suit your taste. You can get a warmer ballad sound by turning the tone knob down low or zero even. Btw, I love the top hat knobs. Lastly, this bass is a looker! The Alpine White is off the hook!!! You will look good playing this beast, just make sure you have a very long strap. The bass warrants the longest strap you can get. I forgot to mention the Gibson TB-2 pups that power the bass. It sounds like a Gibson but at a third of the price. For the money, this guitar is unbeatable. You must have one! I would get the Epi case as well, because it is nice and this is a long bass. The T-Bird came ready to rock right out of the box! I am profoundly pleased with this Thunderbird--you gotta get one!

Great for recording and performance. Intonation was slightly off on the G string, but was very easy to adjust. Nice fretwork and even paint job. Powerful sound.

I am a Fender guy. I own 7 Fender basses and I decided to go out of the box and buy this Thunderbird. Boy was I surprised , The bass is very comfortable to play, great electronics and a narrow neck. It came ready to play. would recommend as a great buy for the money you spend!!

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO Electric Bass Guitar:

I have this bass, in many ways it's great. The fretboard feels nice, the pickups sound great, and though the shape is a bit-outlandish, you can still comfortably rest it on your knee to play sitting down. Which you will probably do whenever you can because it's *really* heavy, this is the heaviest bass or guitar that I've ever played and after 15-20 minutes of playing standing up get's pretty uncomfortable. This bass would be a perfect instrument if they could just find a way to make it lighter without sacrificing any build quality.

Comments about Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a very well-made bass for a great price. Pickups sound great, amazing sustain and tone, finish is really good, neck is straight & true. I replaced the 3-pt bridge with a Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge‎ which is a drop-in replacement that adds adjustability and sustain. Also added straplocks and an Epi hard-shell case (this won't fit in any other case). This bass needs a long strap due to location of the strap buttons. I got the Levis 4-1/2" strap and I use it fully extended.
