I give the bass a 7 out of 10 overall. The only reason it's not a ten is because it's a price-point guitar.
I ran a music store for ten years and this bass is, bar none, the best five string bass for the money I've ever encountered! The action was good to go and intonation right on (which is rare in any bass, but especially economy models). Although I've ordered some EMG's for the bass, the pickups that are on it sound suprisingly good. I just need the EMG's for their quietness as I'm using the bass for recording. The mix control between the P and J pickups really helps tune it that just right sound.
A+ all the way thus far given the price point.
This bass is a fantastic value. Can't say enough.

I bought it because I got a great deal on it, but otherwise I never would have. I wanted to switch from guitar to bass, and playing a nice, smooth bass feels and sounds great. This bass is far from that, it's clunky, unattractive, pickups are awkward to rest your thumb on, slap sounds awful, the neck is thick and slow, the action is bad, and to top it off, the input jack pushes my cord back out a little bit(weird I know.) Now I'm playing my guitars again, and I haven't picked the bass up in a couple months. I really regret buying it. Sorry, ESP, I love your guitars, but not your basses. I might buy a nicer, smoother bass sometime in the near future...

My First Bass

By Nathan Michalik

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I can't say much about tone as it's my first bass, but I know to me it sounds good. I would personally recommend it to anyone starting out who wants to jump straight to a 5 string.I'm playing it in conjunction with an Ashtown perfect 8 practice amp.
The LTD B-55 5 string is extremely versitile. Can't really ask for much more on a bass at this point. I love the range of a 5 string 24 fret bass! Pickups aren't too bad for stock.
There are a few spots where finish seems rushed. For example, the paint work near the headstock gets a tiny bit sloppy. I realize I'm nit picking, but a flaw is a flaw even if it doesn't effect playability. It's nothing huge or even anything that would effect my purchase, just something to look out for.Main reason for docking points is because it's extremely neck heavy. I'm really new to playing bass, but I'm pretty sure it's not normal.
Comparing this to other basses with similar quality and price, it's a great value. It's hard to say if it's better than the others, but it's easily comparable.

Great Backup Bass

By Lumpy_Bass

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

Got this bass as backup 5'er and I am really happy with it. New strings and a slight neck adjustment were all it took to get this bass very playable. It is also very light for a 5 string bass. I haven't measured the string spacing but it is definitely tight. It's not a big problem but my main bass has wider spacing so when I switch back to it after playing the B-55 I notice a difference. Overall this is a great bass for the money and I'd recommend it to any player.

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

This is probably the best bass you can buy for the money! Talk about value! It has great tone and good bottom end punch. The only two things I would say that aren't optimal is there is some string buzzand it doesn't have to good of a top end sound for funk or slappin' but hey, for $200 it's an amazing bass! It is great for a wide variety of styles and has a very fast action. I recommend this bass for any professional or beginner who is on a budget and is looking for a sturdy, high quality bass. Great job ESP!

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I received this as a gift, and am very satisfied with it. It balances well, and has a fantastic neck. The active electronics provide LOTS of output and pretty flexible sounds via the controls. The only issue I have is the low b tends to slip a bit, and it's difficult for my tuner to detect it properly as well, so I often use the 5th fret E to tune the string. The rest of the strings are freaking rock solid.
Not too heavy, very comfortable to play although I haven't played it for hours at a time. It records well, although can be a bit hot.

I always wanted a 5 string Bass Guitar. I settled on this one. I like Fender Basses. But to start out with I didn't want to spend a lot of money. 4 strings had always been enough for me. This isn't exactly what I'd call "basic". It looks great and feels very good and worth the money in my opinion.

I just got this earlier this week and right out of the box it sounded GREAT. I love the pickups. They sound great especially when slapping. The only problem I have is that when it came is had a backbow on the neck but I'm going to go and get that fixed later this week.

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I was looking for a budget 5-string, and was pleasantly suprised with the B-55. I like the P and J style pickups (nice tonal variations) and the fact that it is active. Balance is pretty good (a bit of neck dive). For the sound that I need, a good set of flatwounds was in order--it made all of the difference for me. The tone qualities of the basswood body combined with the flatwounds gives it that classic soul/r&b sound that I like. Intonation was spot on from the factory, and the action just needed a bit of tweaking to my liking (frets are pretty big). Fit and finish was good as well. My only issue is with the battery box--I'd like to change the battery without having to use a screwdriver...

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for quite a few years and wanted to get into playing Bass. I was interested in a 5 string so I picked this beast up. I am more than impressed with it, it is very solid, sounds terrific, fairly light considering it's a Bass and this thing is bullet proof! I currently am gigging with this guitar and I have to say I am impressed. It holds a tune like high end Gibsons, easy to use looks and plays very nice. All in all, I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking to start playing Bass.

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I just got this bass a couple of months ago. It's great. Very low maitenence and versatile. Great sound quality. The only minor problem is that it goes out of tune now and then, but what guitar doesn't? I would definitely recommend it to others looking for that extra deep tone in the rock/metal genre. Great for playing tunes from bands like Coal Chamber, Static-X, and Machine Head (Adam Duce uses a 4-string but often tunes his E-string down to B.). If you're contemplating getting this, just do it! Totally worth it.

I really like this bass. When it arrived, the action was perfect and it almost seemed like I had it professionally set up. I lowered the pickups somewhat, but this bass is excellent for the price. I would have like some kind of eq and maybe a switch but this bass is perfect buy. It stays in tune very well also.

I am a 16 year old kid that has been playing bass for 3-1/2 years and this is my first bass. This bass is sweet. It's lightweight, and the equalizers are pretty good. I recommend that you use GHS strings or elixer(the best). This bass is good for people who feel limited with a four string..... like me!

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

Three things you should know... 1. This bass does not comes with black hardware. It ships from the ESP factory with CHROME hardware.2. This bass has an active tone circuit that requires a 9 volt battery. I have not had to change or charge the battery for SEVEN WEEKS. And I am keeping track. 3. This bass is SUPER HIGH QUALITY otherwise. So much so that the first two were not enough for me to send it back. I have NEVER been able to play an instrument straight from the box as I have with this one. NO ADJUSTMENTS NEEDED!!! You can tell that ESP has pride in what they produce. I would buy it again in a second. Hands down. Just make sure to check out their homepage for the true specifications.

I play for The Knowing Hand, and when this wonderful piece of equipment was sent to me, I fell in love with it. I've had several instruments over the past year, but this one takes the cake. GREAT sound thanks to the Active Tone Boost. Not so hot for anyone who likes to slap, but if you play heavy, this is your best bet!!!
