Fender

Updated electronics, vintage bridge, and a rugged alder body enhance one of the best Fender Jazz basses yet.

The 5-string Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V delivers the modern features that bassists demand in a sleek, familiar electric bass design. An updated preamp circuit brings deeply exhilarating active and passive tone. Powerful-yet-quiet N3 Noiseless pickups present more clean headroom, extended EQ range, and tighter low-end response. The tonal options are vast, thanks to the active/passive toggle switch and passive tone control. These amazing electronics effortlessly handle the low B string with impeccable tone and seismic power. The classic Jazz Bass block fretboard inlays and binding present the Fender American Deluxe V bass in a rightfully classy light.

The bass is crafted with an alder body, a hard wood that provides clear tone, and lasting sustain. The maple neck with modern C-shape, 5-bolt neck plate, compound radius fretboard, asymmetrical neck profile, and contoured heel offer fast action, silky- smooth playability, and make the American Deluxe Jazz Bass extremely easy to play all the way up the neck. The high-mass vintage Fender bass bridge offers compressed and focused bass tone with more mid range punch. It retains the Fender articulation and sparkle, combined with vintage-style saddles to maintain a classic vibe. The combination of a steel plate with brass saddles produces the best possible Fender bass sound.

Pairing up these pickups with the EQ and volume controls provides that notorious Fender Jazz Bass sound that has mystified some of the world's most prominent bassists for decades.

Other features include Stealth "B" string retainer, tinted neck, rolled fingerboard edges, highly detailed nut- and fretwork, genuine bone nut, flathead screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), gloss polyurethane neck finish, and a gloss urethane body finish to dress the Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-string in ultimate style and beauty.

Transparent Wine

Features:

Outstanding tonal range.  Have been playing through a Tech 21 VT for quite awhile.  After plugging this bass in, it took me about 30 minutes to drop the Tech 21 from the loop.

Quality:

I reluctantly bought the Transparent Wine only to keep away from the standard finishes you see on most Fenders.  The pictures on the MF website do not do this bass justice.  The finish is absolutely stunning with the black pickguard, rosewood finger board and block inlays.  I get lots of compliments every time I roll this bass out.  The neck is very comfortable.  This is the first 5-string I've played over an extended period, and it felt completely natural after just a few minutes of playing.  The set up out of the box was just right, no tweaks needed from me and it's stayed that way ever since.

Value:

A little pricey perhaps.  I play with a working musician friend who owns several boutique basses and he tells me that this bass (he has one as well) is as good as any he has played or owned.

Overall:

I've always been the type that has an eye out for another bass, something different.  This is the one that has pretty well put an end to that.  The only downer is that I just don't play my other basses much at all since getting this one (out of respect, I don't want to mention the others, but they are all very fine American-made instruments).

Fender's Best Assembly Line Jazz Bass

| Review By: Kevin Heiderman | 9 months, 3 days ago

Features:

This is the best assembly line Fender bass I have played. The single coil noise issues have been addressed with the new pickups. Out of the box setup and condition were superb on my bass. The active tone control is awesome and works great as a solo boost. There are tons of tonal options without leaving out the famous Jazz growl and clean highs. No dead spots on the five bolt neck, though it is a bit wide toward the bridge. Too bad there aren't 24 frets as you'll want to play every note available. My bass's ash body is beautiful and with the maple neck has that Fender Funk vibe and sound. Recording or playing live, you'll love this bass.

Quality:

This is the pinnacle of Fender's production line American Jazz Bass.

Value:

You can spend more and get less.

Overall:

If it had 24 frets, a slimmer neck and tuned itself, it would be perfect!

Neck: 4.5 of 5 Setup: 4.5 of 5 out of the box. Tone:  4.5 of 5 (traditional Fender tone with versatility via the active electronics. Hardware: 5 of 5 (solid instrament) Electronics: 2.5 of 5:  This is the downfall.  The first bass I received had a ground issue (I assume the ground wire was not connected to the bridge). I could eliminate a ground buzz by touching the input jack. Rather than repair myself, I exchanged it for a 2nd bass (same as above).  With the 2nd  bass "I" was the ground - quite when touching the strings, but the same ground buzz as before when I took my hands off.  I tried the bass through my Eden set-up, an old Peavey bass head and my Allen & Heath mixing console (all three on different circuits) and still had the buzz.  My Brian Moore, Warwick and Ibanez basses were all quite as could be.  The neck on the 2nd bass was 3.5 of 5 (slight "S" and imperfection on fretwork near 10-12 frets).  Very disappointed as I really looked forward to this Fender bass.  Kudos to MF customer service - they were VERY helpful and understanding.  Zero for Two.

After waiting for what seemed like forever the box finally arrived.  I got chills as I opened the box took out the case.  I unlocked the case and was amazed at the true beauty of this thing. (NATURAL MAPLE)  I didnt pick it up right away cuz I wanted to just stare at it.  You cant help but notice how exceptionally built this bass is.  It came with a strap, straplocks, a guitar chord, and all the tools for customizing the "action" the way you want it.  I finally took it out and plugged her in and was blown away by the crisp sound.  I havent played and tinkered with all the knobs but outta the box this baby sounds amazing.  I knew that I had an Instant Classic in my hands that is going to last me a lifetime.  If you can afford one and find one then buy one.  You will not be blown away.
