Updated bridge and Fender-design tuners modernize this classic!

Fender gave this 5-string American Standard Series Jazz Bass a vintage body radius and contour for classic vibe and feel. The Jazz Bass V's body is rendered in premium ash or alder for optimum tone and sustain. Its rosewood or maple fretboard features detailed fret and nut work. The neck is graphite-reinforced and has rolled edges for a broken-in feel from the get-go. The HMV (High Mass Vintage) Bridge increases sustain, provides punchier tone, beefier plates and 3/8" diameter vintage saddles. String height adjustment screws have nylon patches for a tight fit that won't vibrate loose.

A 12-gauge cold rolled steel plate machined brass backstop increases the bass guitar's mass, enhances top end. Socket head intonation screws are engineered for a tighter fit and are now more stable. Features Fender special-design tuning keys. They work great, and are 30% lighter, minimizing neck dip. They offer the classic 20:1 tuning ratio, cast zinc with aluminum string posts and mounting nuts, steel clover keys, brass worm gears, and steel worm drives.

With a thinner undercoat, the American Standard J Bass body breathes easier and has improved sound thanks to the greater influence of the tonewoods. Neck pocket paint buildup has been reduced by 40%, greatly improving the wood to wood connection/reaction.

The included SKB rectangular design case, exclusive to Fender, has TSA-recognized and accepted locks, a fiberglass reinforced nylon trigger release latching system, indestructible cushioned rubber over-molded handle with flush lock out, injection-molded feet, and an exclusive arched stacking system.

Fender hit a home run! A few of the deciding factors on my purchase was the tight sounding B string and the wonderful neck. Many 5-strings I played had issues with the sound and feel of the B string, either to loose feeling or muddy sounding. Not so with the MIA Fender. The neck is wide but slim, and I can tell Fender did their research by deciding on the neck shape. It was suprisingly easy to make the transition from a 4 to a five string with the neck shape, and its rock solid thanks to the graphite that reinforces it. The tone is even across the tonal range, and the lows are solid and highs clear. I can round it out and get a classic jazz sound, or boost the neck pup and get a thunderous boom that dosent loose its shape. The finish was as expected, nothing I could find that was wrong. The new bridge it a welcome upgrade and lets the bass resonate and sustain. And if that was not enough, the case is the best fender has ever sold.
Nicely done and not over the top. If you have played a Jazz bass in the past you can quickly dial in the tone you are used to. The new bridge is classic and yet still an upgrade in its ability to transfer sustain to the body.
Wonderful! no issues with anything. I did not have to adjust intonation or action/neck as I have with other guitars in the past.
For the instrument you are getting, the cost is not out of line. I have played basses costing thousands that did not sound or play as well as this one.

I have played and owned Fenders for over 30 years including Custom shop GTRs. Mine must have been built on a friday? The B string nut and bridge saddles just aren't right. All the pots/knobs were loose. The wiring on the cable 1/4in jack needed to be resoldered. !!!(I had Squires made better at 1/3 the price)!!! If you have smaller hands don't buy it it is a PLANK for a fretboard.

    Amazing Bass Guitar

    By Matthew Hewitt

    from Saint Paul, MN

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

This guitar is absolutely beautiful. The candy cola finish on the bass is not too bright like other "candy" finishes tend to be and it adds class and a certain unique factor that you lose with the typical black or sunburst finishes. The neck of the American Standard Jazz Bass V is not too thick like many other five string basses tend to be, and yet it seems more solid and sturdy and in many ways ergonomic.

The sound produced is wonderful (I have received numerous comments about the amazing sound). I had been playing my Peavy BXP Millenium for 10+ years and was expecting a similar sound from a bass guitar (especially because it was still two Jazz pickups), and somehow Fender seemed to go above and beyond. I like having the independent tone adjustment for each pickup.

I could go on and on... The only thing I don't like about this product, and rest assured it is not with the guitar itself. The hardshell case that is included with this bass is definitely sturdy, but the only design flaw is that the storage compartment for accessories is not deep enough to accomodate a Boss TU-3 Chromatic pedal tuner. All in all with that being the only con to this product I think it deserves 5 stars!

    The Perfect 5 String

    By Jimmy Two Fingers

    from The Milky Way

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I did a lot of research into 5 strings before I decided to buy this one. After playing for 30 years, I have certain things I want on a bass and have always been fond of Fenders, as they just seem to be the right fit for me. As this was my first 5-string, I wanted something that would sound good and was flexable enough to cover various styles of music that I cover on a weekly basis. The fender American Jazz V delivers in spades. The finish was flawless, sound awesome, and feel was great. It's a suprisingly light bass, feeling lighter then my Jaco 4 string. The neck was very easy to get used to transitioning from a 4-string, and is very fast. The low b is tight and adds another dimension to my playing ability. It came perfectly set up out of the box,(which was a first) and the case is the best I have ever had the pleasure of owning. This bass has quickly found its way to being my main bass in a short order. Maybe for some it seems pricey, but if you are serious about playing, you do get what you pay for, and it was worth every penny I spent. Plus, it came earlier than was projected. Thanks

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I bought this guitar a little while ago and I love it. What can i say it's a fender and they are best in my opion guitar out there. I have played G&L, washburn, Samick, and a few others but this bass has them all beat. The playability is amazing and the sounds is even more amazing. The tone on this thing is amazing If your shopping for a good 5 string bass this is your best bet. You can't go wrong with fender. Even the lower end fenders are a great guitar. This is the 3rd fender guitar i've bought and haven't had a problem with any of them.

The Best! And for Good Reason

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I bought this guitar last spring and I couldn't be more thrilled. I play it through my Ampeg SVT Classic with a Keeley Compressor and Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings. It sounds like what I imagine Jesus' guitar would if he played bass guitar. The tone of this guitar is absolutely amazing, it will sound great regardless of what you plug it in to. It's the perfect balance of brilliance and depth, and the tone shaping control really has an impact on the sound. The guitar is just a tiny bit on the heavy side, so make sure you have a comfy strap. I've been gigging and recording with this guitar for almost a year now and you get every ounce of what you pay for out of it. If you want Fender tone and quality don't even think about buying anything else.

Wow, this bass is just great. I can get any sound I want out of this bass. It a bit heavy, but the tone makes up for it, plus some. You should definitely buy this bass.

    Perfect

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

After researching and playing countless basses, I knew that the American Standard Jazz was the bass I really wanted, but didn't have the cash at the time, so I settled for a Warwick Rockbass Corvette.(which is pretty darn good) I always kept lusting for the Jazz, so I saved up the bones and finally pulled the trigger, and I am totally blown away by the total quality of this instrument, in every way. The finish is flawless, the neck, with the matte finish, plays like butter, and the tonal range is just incredible. The case also bears mentioning. Very sturdy and protects your investment very well. This has become my main ax. The Warwick and Rickenbacker take up space on stands, although I still use them from time to time. If your looking for a top shelf bass, look at the Fender American Standard 5, you'll be glad you did.

    the best out there

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I finally took the plunge and got a 5 string and I'm glad I went with Fender. I got this with the rebate so it is was a good deal too. The bass is flawless and the only thing I did was have the action lowered a bit. I think for the money this is the best 5 string available.

    A Thing Of Beauty

    By ransom-PBKHY

Comments about Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V:

I've been playing for twenty-five years and own two other 5-strings, a P-Bass, a 4-string fretted Jazz Bass and a 4-string fretless Jazz Bass.. The American Standard Jazz Bass V is by far the best bass I have ever played. Straight out of the box it was perfectly intonated and the action was excellent. The passive pickups produce that mid-range growl that is so characteristic of a good jazz bass. The finish is flawless and the satin on the back of the neck helps make an already fast neck nearly dangerous. The Modern C neck profile is thinner from back to front than I had expected and is pleasantly comfortable. The string spacing was wider that expected, but again it was not any bother at all. To top it all off is the Fender/SKB molded case. It's sturdy and impressive looking. It definitely inspires confidence that your bass won't be marred by careless band mates throwing it into the van at the end of the night. All that being said there is also included what all Fender fans grew to love about buying a new Fender, the case candy. You get the iconic black and yellow Fender logo strap, a truss rod wrench, a polishing cloth, an instrument cord and an owners manual in case you can't figure out how to use your new instrument. All in all this is one of the finest basses in any price range and for the serious gigging musician is a perfect companion.
