Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Rosewood Fingerboard:

This Bass Guitar came with round wound strings which were a little too bright for my tastes, but this is just nitpicking on my part. The action set-up was excellent, feel of the neck and sound were excellent as well.
Fender & Musician's Friend did an outstanding job on this bass.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Rosewood Fingerboard:

This is the fourth bass I currently own. I also have a Rickenbacker 4003, a Warwick Corvette Standard fretless, and a Hofner President 5005, the "Stu Sutcliff" bass. These 3 are all great basses, but I kept itching for a P-Bass--even though I'd never actually played one. (I am a multi-instrumentalist, and the bass is not my main instrument.)

So two days ago my P-Bass arrived. Holy moly!! It is simply amazing. The word everybody always uses for the P-Bass sound is "growl"--and I see why. The sound is rich and fat and physical, like a bass should be. Super deep thumping notes that slap you in the sternum, but are at the same time bright and snappy (depending, of course, on how you set your tone controls on the bass and the amp). I still love my 4003, and write poetry to it and all that...but man alive, this P-Bass is a beast. I guess I'd have to say the P-Bass is the more versatile instrument; to my ears, the Ric kind of just does that one Ric sound supremely well, while the P-Bass sound will just fit into more musical situations. If I had to have just one bass, it would probably be the Precision.

Comments about American Standard Precision Bass with Rosewood Fingerboard:

I've always been one that thought the American Fenders were over priced and there was little, if any difference between them and a Mexican or Japan one, of which I own one of each. I've got to say that I was mistaken. It's the little things that make the difference in the American. The lighter, more responsive tuners, flawless fit and finish, fingerboard wood selection, fretwork. Even the responsiveness of the volume and tone pots is smoother and more gradual, indicating higher quality pots and wiring. As well as the quietness of the electronics when not being played, no hum or hiss. Needless to say, those are all things (except for wood selection) that can be worked out and upgraded on the foreign models, which I've done to both of mine to get them where I wanted them. But if you want an out of the box, finely finished instrument, the American is the way to go. I am very pleased with this bass. After much deliberation, I bought the Mystic Blue and am very glad I did. The pictures don't do this color justice, it's beautiful with a heavy metal flake that isn't so noticeable in the advertising photos. It's pretty striking against the white pickguard, I'm putting on a white perloid guard which I think will look incredible. Also to my surprise, this bass came very well set up. All I had to do was adjust the intonation of the E string a little. Of course the most important thing is tone, and this bass has it nailed with the 60's custom shop pickup, sounds awesome. I do wish Fender would include strap locks, I was under the impression that they did but maybe that's only the deluxe models. The hardshell case is very high quality also, heavy but we'll built. Overall, this package gets an A+ rating from me.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Rosewood Fingerboard:

I've been playing bass for just over 10 years now, and this is one of the nicer bass guitars that I have played. I picked it up at a local music shop about 2 months ago, and have played nearly every day since. The sound is unrivaled. I used to play a cheaper MIM Fender Jazz Bass, and while that wasn't bad, this bass is leaps and bounds ahead of my old Jazz Bass. Right away you can tell a difference in sound and how it feels. Easily the best tone and smoothest playing experience I've had. If you're on the fence about buying this bass I cannot recommend it enough. I picked up the Sunburst color, but switched out the pick guard for a black one and I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Bottom line: Get this bass... You won't regret it.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Rosewood Fingerboard:

I got a 1995 US standard P Bass. That was the first year that Fender made the drastic changes to their US line up of basses that still stands today. They had a little less options in my time (they only offered US standard in rosewood fret boards back then). That said there's nothing to regret about my 1995 US standard p. It has the same 62 style custom shop P pick up as the newer ones. It has the same graphite reinforcments and flex rods in it's neck. The only major change is the bridge was improved a little via a sustain block.
I've owned about 6-7 different basses in my life time and recently relinquished much of what I owned but of the two basses I kept this was my number 1. For 20 years this has been my favorite bass I've owned and my most played in that time I've had to re-soldier the electronics once about 10 years ago and I only had to do one fret dressing last year. The worst thing that happened to my bass was it got knocked off the stand once and the neck screws got stripped out, It was an easy fix using some wood dowels and gorilla glue, bas still plays like it is new. You can't go wrong with this bass. US fender P's are easy to maintain, clean and repair. Granted I paid a lot less for my US fender P back in 1995 , but even with today's pricing they are worth the investment , especially at the deal MF gives you. If you are a working musician you owe it to yourself to get one of these. I would certainly get another one if I could afford it right now.

this bass is decent, but you either get a good one or a bad one. another gripe i have with this bass is the fact that unlike its jazz bass counterpart, it doesnt have a custom shop pickup. save your money and get the fender 50s mim precision.
