I saw this bass on fender's website under new products. I was in NYC recently and saw it hanging on the wall so I decided to try it out. It needed a setup very badly, the action was almost unplayably high. It didnt sound bad though, it had a nice punchy growl that reminded me of a rickenbacker. I'd have to play one that is setup before I decide to buy one.
This in an awesome, easy playing the guitar. The P neck makes the frets seem to be another part of your own hand. The double humbucker pickups boom with sound, and is easy to diaup your own sound. I use this bass in a live rock setting as well as church music and home studio work. Great looking, great value and fun to play!
I got this bass 2 weeks ago, after finally deciding that my old passive P-bass just wasn't doing the job I needed it to in my new band. First off let me just say that I put alot of faith in this bass and Michael Frank-Braun from the get go. I'd never played this bass, though I had tried the American Deluxe P and J basses and while both we top notch, something just didn't "feel" right about them. So I ordered this bass and hoped for the best, and I got it. The bass is loud with a capital L even with all my head settings down way low it'll still rattle your bones, and I still haven't figured out exactly what it is about the way this thing is wired but it does everything I need to do and more. It can go from a very delicate even sound almost like a soap bar but one thats possessed. Then with a flip of the coil selector switch and a few tweaks on the knobs to get just the right tone I can dial in the classic P bass punch but with a growl like a rabid dog. The really great thing is since it's a dual humbucker and you can boost the treble you don't lose the high end like you do on a normal passive P. All the punch and more growl but with a full tone. It's killer. I experienced none of the problems (rough frets or a less than adequate bridge) that is common on the standard mexi's. The crasftemen down there really nailed this thing, it's perfect from bridge to headstock. The only thing thats kind of scary is that it is a bit more expensive then most of the other mexican deluxes (still alot cheaper than any american deluxe), but I feel it's worth every penny. I can't put the thing down. The band loves it.
