Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Precision Bass Lacquer:

I bought one of these in a local shop after a couple years of searching for a reasonably priced used Pbass with a maple fretboard. This thing plays and feels like the original, and I immediately gravitated toward playing some old school motown grooves. Big fat baseball bat neck, reverse tuners, vintage frets and bridge and old school slotted truss rod, just like they made it 60 years ago. The quality of this bass far exceeded my expectations and seems to be of a better build quality than their MIM standard series.

This is an ideal bass for someone playing finger style blues, R&B, etc. However, I personally am not a fan of the smaller vintage frets (I play a heavier style and the notes can get a little farty with such tiny frets) or the laborious process of making truss rod adjustments. That being said, if you are searching for something that has the looks, feel and sound of a vintage P-Bass, this is hands-down your best option.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Precision Bass Lacquer:

I have many other basses, but really needed a nice P to get traditional tones - I managed to find one of these used. This is an authentic reproduction of the original '57 Holy Grail p-bass. Originals are very costly and in many cases nearly worn out and too valuable to carry to gigs and jams where vintage instruments can disappear if not watched carefully. Put LaBella flats on it, foam under the bridge like Jamerson, and it nails the old tones. Responds well to a either pick or fingers. I also put the traditional bridge and pickup covers on and it looks great. My main bass is an Alembic, but it just cannot get the old school Motown tones. A beautiful instrument all the way around.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Precision Bass Lacquer:

Great bass. I am used to playing older instruments (I have a vintage MIA J bass and a Gibson Eb-3) and I needed something reliable, a daily driver if you will, for everyday use in the studio and shows. I played one of these at a local shop and fell in love with the neck. Its smooth yet provides a satisfying amount of resistance when moving from position to position. Very simple and functional. The neck is a little shorter and wider than the traditional P-Bass neck, which I have come to prefer. Since both of my other basses are vintage, the reverse tuners were no problem for me. Pickups are smooth and not noisy, and the electronics have been great so far. I'm playing this bass through a Terror 500 and a 4x10. It's got a great tone, not as punchy in the high end as my J Bass, but the bottom end and mid-range are fantastic and not overbearing. I tried this one, and an American Standard P Bass. The neck honestly sold me on the 50s P. I went back and forth at least four times between the two. I've had it about a month, no complaints! I added the bridge / pickup cover and the thumb rest. The pickguard has the holes for them pre drilled.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Precision Bass Lacquer:

I've been playing guitar for almost 50 years and decided to play bass with a couple of buddies in a power trio for grins and a change. I was somewhat reluctant ordering a piece without having a hands on tryout but read some good reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. Bottom line is this bass is an amazing bang for your buck! The build quality, sound, looks and playability are all extremely good. Mexico got this one right! And with a nice case and the nitro finish on top of it all. It's a keeper!!!
