Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass Okume Rosewood Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

I received this in time to do a quick setup before I played a gig with it. The pictures don't do this thing justice. It looks much better in person. All in all, very clean lines. I have a small arsenal of basses, and I like Fender Jazz basses in particular because of their necks. Although made in Mexico, the neck on this one is flawless, and plays really well. It has better intonation and note accuracy than basses that are twice the price. The truss rod adjustment is set somewhat deep in the headstock so it is out of sight. The tuning machines aren't as smooth as I would like, so I put a tiny bit of lubricant on them. They are solid though, and it stayed in tune all night. Even though it has a rosewood fingerboard, the sound is still plenty bitey, but still has that smooth jazz bass tone when you want it. Plenty of growl when you play it on the neck pickup alone. The electronics are noiseless, but I noticed a slight high-pitched hum when I wasn't touching the strings This may have been something in the on-stage lighting or electrical doing this. I didn't notice this at home. It has that great jazz bass sound, plus plenty more because of the active electronics. The controls do detent in the middle position. They don't feel as high a quality though as some higher-end basses. Because it is active electronics, it has that active electronic sound as opposed to a passive sound. But, it does sound really good. It is lighter than my MusicMan HH Slo Special, and my other passive jazz bass. But, it seems to have a very wide frequency response, possibly from the active electronics. For modern music, it sounds better than my older passive Fender American Jazz bass. The thing about this bass is that it comes with all the things a working musician would want on it to play live, and it sounds great through all my amps.

I made a good choice here. Don't let the "Made In Mexico" label scare you off of this one. It's a good sounding, good playing jazz bass.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass Okume Rosewood Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

I got this bass about 1 month ago. I has some basic setup work done (intonation, truss rod, nut work) and took it out on some gigs. Did a couple jazz gigs, trio setting. Also did a 3 weekend show in a pit band - 50's rock 'n roll. Tons of punch, great bridge mid-sound, and very fat slap tones. Stock strings too - those must be something new to Fender. Compares well to basses costing lots more. Love this bass!
