Fender

A deluxe version of Fender's best-of-both-worlds bass.

The Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass has a Jazz neck, a P Bass body, and a P/J combination pickup array with Vintage Noiseless pickups and active electronics. The P body is a little smaller and lighter, the J neck slimmer and faster, and the combined pickups give you just that much more to play with. A gold vinyl pickguard sets the Deluxe P Bass apart visually, and its satin-finish neck feels worn in from the get-go.

Features

  • Jazz neck
  • P Bass body
  • Vintage Noiseless Pickups (J bridge pickup, P center pickup)
  • Active electronics
  • Gold vinyl pickguard

This is a very cool bass and the price is easy. Get it.

Fantastic instrument! As another reviewer said, this thing is a "tone monster." Beautiful body and neck design, not too heavy or cumbersome, and incredibly versatile sounds. The price is also a total bargain. I am in love with this thing.

Nice bass

Features:

The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because "it's heavy".  But I only play 2 days a week so it is really not a BIG problem.

Quality:

Here's the good part:  It sounds wonderful.  It has rejuvinatied my sound.  I will admit, I  haven't had a Fender bass since the 60's.  Both Jazz and P.  both were stolen from me, dang.....Anyway, back to the subject at hand....It has such a diversity of sounds from low/fat/noattack....to high/pricktheears/slap and anything in between.  Of course, this could be a good thing or a bad thing.  I find myself piddiling with it for hours just to see what kind of sound I can come up with using amp settings and bass settings.  It is truly amazing.  Sometimes, as with a p/bass, there is something to say about plugging in and just playing as opposed to trying to find that exact sound.  But, someday I will find "that" sound and then I won't have to play with it much....Great bass.  Would I buy it again, a resounding "YES"!!!

Value:

I think it is a fair price for the bass you get.  Unlike my Ch. basses, at least when you turn the knobs, something happens on a gradual scale as opposed to nothing then all of a sudden something (those who have Ch basses know what I mean).  It is the best bass I own, and the most expensive.  Can't afford $2000 basses......I'm a retired working man, worked hard all my life, and I'll keep on workin....as long as these 2 hands are fit to use.....drink a lil beer in a tavern, cry a little bit of these workin man blues....

Overall:

This is one bass that I will never part with.  Just due to the fact that it's a Fender and the variety of sounds that one can get from it.  It plays very nice, easy on the hands, stays in tune, quality workmanship, beaufiful looking and just sounds fantastic...I would recommend this to anyone.

One more thing.  The different sounds that come from the 2 picups is the defining factor for me.  You get the jazz bass/bridge sound and you get the p/bass sound, or both together.  Buy it, you'll like it.....

Suprised

Features:

Love the active preamp, you can dial in most any tone you need

Quality:

Solid construction, I bought mine off of CL so it was fairly used but nothing wrong with it, still solid

Value:

I bought mine used so I deffintely loved the price on it but I wouldn't mind paying full price for it. I feel very fortunate to get it at the price I did

Overall:

I got the Fender P-Bass deluxe when I was looking to step up from my squier jazz I've had for years now. I got it through good ol' CL and was really surprised at how good it really was. I intially was looking for just aP-Bass set up but a guy offered to sell this to me and I thought I'd go for it. I had no clue the thing was an active bass when I got it (stupid me, yes) but I've decided I really love the active sound and mostly control. I play through an ampeg micro svt through a fender 1970 something 2x15 bassman and it's quite a powerhouse. Really solid construction and a super good feel to it, nothing I feel like I need to add or change. I was a little concerned at first that the tone knob was missing but I found I love being able to dial in a variety of tones with preamp stuff. I also love the neck and how it feels size-wise. It's also really pretty looking, I got red with maple neck. Overall for a random find I'd say it was a very good investment and I would deffintely buy another one if this one died or something.

Incredible first bass

As with a few others, this is my first bass. I just found a mint '08 model in Red and a maple neck. The thing that caught my eye was that it had the Badass II installed, the receipt for the install and setup was in the case, BINGO!

The combination of the playability, bridge improvement in sustain and tone, balance and 3 band EQ is pretty much an amazing set of features at a great price. $360 "down here at the pawn shopppp!"

I have to give it an 8 because the fret edges were rough. I hand dressed the edges in all of 10 minutes and it was smooth as an American neck. No sweat, just not perfect.

Look at all the posts that start with "Wow."

Works perfectly all the time. I can leave it on the stand for a day or 2 and it's still in tune. A lot of bass fot the money.

This bass has it all. Great tone controls and great neck feel (fast). It stays in tune longer than most others I've owned and it looks great. I've paid more in the past for American series P basses but soon became tired of them for some reason. I can't put this one down. Got it in black with an Ampeg BA112 combo and a Boss ME-50B unit. I'm a happy camper!

Great paint finish on the body. The mechanics are solid.

Even if you have higher priced gear to play on you should pick one of these up. Great value.
