OVERVIEW

An value-packed instrument of remarkable style and equipped with a powerful P/J pickup configuration.

Throughout its history, Fender has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic, Mustang and Musicmaster models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player series continues that great my-first-Fender tradition, with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on our most revered instruments-all with outstandingly attainable value.

The Modern Player Jaguar Bass presents a lean, mean and stripped-down version of the ultra-sleek bass model, with a powerful P/J configuration-a Modern Player Precision Bass middle pickup and Modern Player Jazz Bass bridge pickup-and streamlined control configuration. Features include a koto body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5 radius and 20 jumbo frets, three-ply parchment pickguard, three Jazz Bass control knobs (middle volume, bridge volume, master tone), vintage-style four-saddle bridge with brass saddles, open-gear tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

Case sold separately.

It's a steal....

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

Don't let the Fender website fool you - this is not an entry level bass, only the price is. From the brass saddle, to the pickups to the very cool aesthetics, this bass has all of the cool vibe of its 60's siblings without the price tag. Out of the box, the action was slightly high, so I lowered the action to my liking with the included tools. The pbass p/u is deep, responsive and articulate while the j pup is bright but not harsh. The sounds between the two are endless. The neck is maple. Although the photo is a light maple, the actual color looks slightly amber, giving it a cool vintage vibe. The black finish is typical Fender high quality. The frets play easily, although a few could use a dressing. There is plenty of sustain between the maple neck, koto body and brass saddle. Overall, the bass feels great, looks great and sounds great.

Fantastic bass for all levels!

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

With P bass and J bass pickups, this thing packs serious punch. turn the P bass PUs mostly off and the J bass PUs full blast for some J bass tones. Perfect for slapping. Crank the P bass PUs up to hear the roary boomy slam that P basses are known for. This is the bass for anyone.

Fender's next Thundercasting jewel

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

I have this feeling. In 50 years, this guitar will be as revered as the elusive '54 strat. Because of all of it's fantastic perks, from it's fantastic pickups to it's beautiful neck and body design, I feel it will be sought after in the future. Make the investment. you won't regret it.
The bass combines the best of Fender basses by including a Prescision bass pickup and a Jazz bass pickup. The Prescision pickup delivers rolling, powerful tones that shake rooms with even the smallest of amps. The Jazz pickup dishes out an insane punch and spank that makes you want to slap the night away on it. Both pickups are fantastically built and definitely sound like there was some real time and effort put into making them.. I have no complaints
The guitar has a thick glossy finish that pops out, even in the stock black. The neck is finished in the same kind of finish as the guitar, and feels great. I've never been a fan of finished necks, but this really takes the cake in my book. I cannot describe in words how beautiful the neck feels in your hands blasting out thick basslines.
Originally, I was skeptical of the price. bearing an uncanny resemblence in price to the squier line (which i despise with a vengence) but after a few hours playing this bass, i found myself to be gravely mistaken. Calling this bass a good deal doesn't even begin to cover it. If you're like me, who went out for a Fender standard series bass for $500 USD, buy this bass instead and use the leftover money to get yourself a decent hardshell case.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

There is nothing wrong with how it's made: the craftsmanship and electronics are fine for the money.

My complaint is with the design. I think the jaguar body probably works well on a guitar but doesn't translate well on a bass.

Here's why:

1. The reduced upper horn is not significant enough to offset the weight of the neck causing it to be neck-heavy.

2. The lower horn is nothing more than a knob, making it want to slide off your knee when playing seated.

So either standing or seated the bass requires additional effort to support.

I think problems like these arise whenever guitar bodies are translated to be bass bodies. The neck to body ratio is different. The P and J basses were designed to be basses, and that's why there are so comfortable to play.

In the end, I'd recommend sticking with basses that were design from the beginning to be basses and not guitar body copies.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

Overall, the bass plays well, sounds wonderful and looks good, but the weight is a bit too much. I may end up using it strictly for recording rather than live performance because of the weight issue.

If a heavier bass is ok with you, This one will work fine! I had no problems with the sound of it and would have rated it higher other than the fact that it was uncomfortably heavy.
I recently aquired one of these basses and gave it a "gig test". First, the quality seems to be quite good and the bass played well after tweaking it to my specifications. The finish on it looks great and the neck plays wonderfully! Nice!

The one thing I have to point out is that this is a HEAVY bass! The weight of it is a bit too uncomfortable for my liking. I played it for over an hour straight and the overall weight became unbearable on my shoulder. ( I switched to a much lighter bass for a while.)

Other than that, the bass sounds GREAT! I was very pleased at the overall tones I was able to get. Everything from a deep low end to an amazing 'slap" tone! All by merely adjusting the pick-up volume knobs.
As I mentioned, the quality seems to be quite good for this bass. The neck is above average in playability for the price of this "made in China" bass.
I believe for the price, this is a good bass that will give you the sound you want for most situations.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

Like I said, this is a great bass. If you have the money, I think I might step up and get the high end Jaguar - but if this price range is all you can afford - you won't go wrong using this bass.

Playing live with it - it has a great feel, it's comfortable, doesn't neck-dive or move around. The tone on it is great. You can get deep, muddy tones, a nice mid-tone growl or extremely bright tones out of it.

It looks great with those Geddy style fret markers on the white maple - has a great finish. My only complaint is that MusiciansFriend didn't put Black Beauty strings on it for me before shipping

This will go along with my Spector for performing.
This is a nice looking bass. Unlike the Big Boy Jaguar, this only has two volume controls for each pickup and one tone control.
The maple neck on this bass is clean and straight. I've messed around with the string height and even at a low setting, I don't get any fret buzzing or have it fret out higher up on the neckboard. Love the look of the fret markers on the maple neck.
I'm giving this high marks on quality because - this is the scaled down Jaguar bass.

That being said - in comparison to other, higher end models of Fenders I have, the quality on this bass, so far, is very, very nice. Neck plays very, very nicely. Excellent finish. Electronics are clean (I don't get any noise due to poor electronics, poor grounding, etc.).
I've already gigged and studio recorded with this bass and am very surprised at the quality and feel of this bass. I'm actually kicking myself for not ponying up and getting the more expensive Jaguar model. But, I've nevver been a big Fender fan, so I was testing the waters with this one.

This is a good, solid bass. Not a "good intro bass for the price". It truly is a good bass.

NIce bass - good value

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

I'm quite pleased with this bass. I also own a Fender Jazz bass and they are similar. The Jaguar bass has a little deeper sound from the precision pickup. Also, the Jaguar bass fits fine in a case meant for a Jazz or Precision bass.
I like the Precision and Jazz type pickups and the maple neck. Has the same nut width (1.5") as the Jazz bass so it has a fast neck. It also has a bevelled body like the Jazz/Precision for playing comfort.
Made in China but seems to be well made. Metric allen wrenches required (supplied with guitar) to adjust truss rod and bridge height.
Good bass for the money.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for a month now, and overall I think it is of excellent quality. I've been playing bass for about 15 years and this probably has the best neck of any bass I have ever played. It was very easy to setup for fast action, and the fretwork appears to be nearly perfect. Like others have said, the bass is heavy, but I don't mind it at all. It is still lighter than some basses I own. Even though it is made in china, the finish and feel of this bass is definately up to any Fender standards I have seen.

I mostly use the P-Bass pickup with the tone knob rolled back about 1/3 of the way. The tone is excellent and I've recieved many positive comments at every show I've played it at over the last month. Sustain is great, the weight probably helps out here. The J pickup sounds good as well, but doesn't seem to add much when mixed with the P in my opinion. I play mostly in Drop D tuning, and the bass handles the low D pretty well, though slightly muddy on the E string in this tuning. Standard tuning sounds stellar, but I prefer having the extra lower notes and fidgeting with the pickups and tone it is able to make up for the lost quality. I've been able to get a good selection of tones from it, but the standard P bass tone sounds best in my opinion. Mixed with the playability of the J bass neck, this guitar is a powerhouse.

Regardless of where it is made, this is an excellent bass. I've owned multiple American and Mexican fender basses, and I'd say this is as good as any of them. I can tell no difference in playability or tone when compairing, and I actually prefer the playability of this one over my American P Bass Deluxe. Definately way more than just a "beginner" guitar and I think it would be an excellent addition to the arsenal of players at all levels.

Been playing for over 30 years and owned a lot a basses, this one reminds me of why I started playing bass. The best of both worlds... the P-bass sounds just like my old procession and the nice tight jazz sound you want from the bridge pickup.

You can spend as much as you can afford on a bass and all the trouble that comes from a boutique bass that you don't want to take out of the house or studio. Or you can buy the bass that everyone really plays...a Fender P or J bass. For the money you can't go wrong with this bass.

I have always liked the cool look of a Jaguar bass.
I just did not like all the swicthes they had on them.I saw this bass with the P/J pickup combination and just the volume and tone controles and liked that. This is a beautiful guitar that sounds as good as it looks. The P-Bass pickup is fat sounding. The J-Bass pickup has a nice punchy sound.Together they have a nice warm round sound. The guitar is very well made and everything on it works great. The neck is perfect on it and it stays in tune.I am enjoying playing this bass and will use it a lot.
