I have a great '76 Fender precision bass that was my workhorse bass for years. But the bass I reach for when I want to play fretted electric bass is my Tribute L-2000. It simply sounds and plays better. Okay, that sounds blasphemous, but it's true. I bought my Tribute used via craigslist as the guy I was buying an amp from wanted to offload it. Ironically, I was the original owner of a USA L-2000 back in '92, but I foolishly sold it when I thought I was quitting music forever (ha!). It was a great instrument, and my Tribute, though it be the lowly import version, is every bit as good. Ray Charles would never know the difference! My Tribute is strung with Flatwounds, and I think they are a great compliment to the instrument. There is still plenty of brightness, but much less string, fret, and finger racket. As I am sure other reviews and Wikipedia will tell you, this is a Leo Fender designed instrument. Everything about it is a improvement over my P-bass, from the solid chunk of a bridge to the fat Music Man style pickups. I think G&L is a much more elegant design than Music Man, anyway. These days, my primary instrument is upright bass, but I still like to grab an electric bass and rattle the rafters. I'd use my vintage Fender for the photo shoot. But give me my Tribute L-2000 if you want me to sound my best.

        Not for me sorry...
Well specified bass for the money and seems to be built of decent materials...
Not happy with the set up and a few other things....fret ends are sharp and need sorting out. 3rd fret is a little high causing fret buzz when playing on the 2nd fret. Treble control circuit seems badly designed...nothing happens for 90% of the rotation then it cuts off straight away....difficult to gauge a gentle roll off. No relief on the neck at all...should be around 20 thou at the 9th fret on the 4th string...adjusting the truss rod improved things a bit but then the action was too high and the bridge saddles were almost all the way down on the 1st and 4th strings which means the neck angle probably needs shimming.......all too much trouble for me on a new 2012 instrument....sent it back to the dealer and now looking at the Musicman Sterling Ray34 instead......
Needs more attention at the factory I think....I doubt that a USA made G&L would have these problems...

        Solid, Plays Great, Surprisingly Lightweight

        By Christopher Buecheler

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

I'm not a pro bassist. In fact, this is the first one I've ever owned, though I've played around with friends and band-members' instruments in the past. That said, I've been playing guitar for eighteen years and I have a pretty good sense for quality. This isn't a cheap starter instrument that you're going to end up wanting to replace within 6-12 months. It's a solid performer with great tone options, and I am sure that many a bassist could use it for years as their standard option for both gigging and recording. I don't see myself needing to upgrade for the forseeable future.
Quality wood and hardware combined with a ridiculous amount of tonal options make for a really great feature set at this price.
One of the tone knobs feels slightly "gritty" when you turn it, but other than that the quality is high across the board. The bass is solid but very light, comfortable to play, with a fast neck and good bridge and tuners. Pickups are solid too. It sounds fantastic playing through my old Fender Bassman 10 tube amp, and it even sounds pretty great coming through my cheap Line 6 solid-state practice amp.
It's hard to imagine finding a better bass in this price range. There's real attention to detail, here, and it doesn't seem like any aspect of the manufacturing process was scrimped on.

        My New Tribby L2000

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

The bass is extremely versatile, easy to play, and the fit and finish is incredible. I owned an american made L1500 and the fit and finish is just as good on this tribute.

Happy with the tones it gets and the way it feels, would buy another in a heartbeat if anything were to happen and an amazing price for sucha quality instrument.

        My absolute favorite bass

        By Richard Kubik

        from New Jersey

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

By far this is the best bass I have played
The bass is Extremely versatile, ranging from a P Bass, to almost a 4003's sound. the two music man pups on her pump out sound like nobody's business, and the neck is extremely fast.
like all products i have seen from G&L, there was no shortcuts when this bass was made in terms of quality. even the highest notes on this bass rinng out with the same ferocity as the open notes...no problems have arisen in the year and a half i have owned the bass.
for roughly half the price of the american L-2000 the Tribute L-2000 is by far the best bass in it's price range. it offers top of the line parts, and it sounds exactly like the american made one.... to be quite honest, the blue burst that this bass comes with puts it ahead of the american one, simply because i havent seen such a beautiful colour on the normal L-2000.

        Great Bass!

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

I bought my G&L Tribute L-2000 bass about 6 years ago. I tried a few basses at a local music store, and was about to get a price on another bass, when my friends spotted the Tribute. At their request, I gave it a try. Within a few seconds, we knew this was the bass to buy! I've used my bass on stage and to record with, and I always get compliments on it. I love the thump I get with both pickups on. For the price, you can't beat it!

        G&L > Fender USA

        By G&Lftw

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

I ordered this bass from this site, and it's a great instrument. You have to give the features a 5 star grade because you can't ask for more tonal options. You have the PUP toggle, Series/Parallel (acts as a midscoop), and then the hi end boost toggle as well. Then add the hi and low knobs for a little more control. This aspect is my favorite part of this bass. Great for a tone freak. In addition, you can tell that, though pieced together in Indonesia, the American parts are of great quality and put together very well. Get the USA version if you can afford it, but this is a great option if not. I've played a bunch of USA Fenders and they're awesome of course, but because of the value of this bass, I'd say it's a better option. Great feel and again, amazing tonal control options. There are videos on this bass you should check out if considering it.. you really can't go wrong with this buy.

        Great all-around bass

        By jojojoshua

        from Florida

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

After playing a fretless Tribute L-2500, I just had to try the L-2000. It is a great bass at this price or even more. I have played several basses in this price range and this one clearly outperforms them all. Once you get used to all the switch combinations, you can get a huge variety of sounds. The neck has a smooth satin finish and the bass balances well when worn. A small adjustment of the saddle heights was all that was needed to set this up for me. I got the Blueburst with maple and my only complaint is that the blue is very dark on this one and the burst is very subtle. It may not be this way on others. Other than that I have no issues and can't imagine needing another bass for a very long time.

        L-2000 bass

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

I love this bass. Have owned it for about 2 years now and have never had a problem (other than the strap buttons falling off, but that was my fault=>). Can sound anywhere from a stingray to a P-bass to close to a J-bass. Replaced 2 basses with it just from the versatility!

        Comments about G&L Tribute L-2000 4-String Bass:

I walked into a guitar shop in lexington. I found three basses that I was interested in. This one, a warwick rockbass corvette, and a spector legend classic 4 string. I played the G&L tribute L-2000 first and the tone was amazing and I liked it a lot until I put it down and grabbed the rockbass. everything about the beginner warwick was better. The spector was superior in the tone department as well. So this bass isnt the best value in the 500-750 market.
