OVERVIEW

A blast from the past!

In 1956, Walter Hofner had an idea for an amplified semi-acoustic bass. When it was brought to life, it proved a unique instrument with a smooth, sweet sound and a playing ease that simply eludes most ordinary basses. Many players revere Hofner's Violin Bass as a legend because of its historical significance and its warm, woody, double-bass-like amplified tone.

Named for the year the most familiar version of the Violin Bass was popularized, the Vintage '63 captures its characteristic tone - deep, warm and reminiscent of a full-size string bass. Built to be as durable as its legacy, the compact-sized, easy-to-play, light-in-weight Vintage '63 is equally at home onstage or in the studio.

Comments about Hofner 500/1 Vintage '63 Electric Bass Guitar Left-Handed:

This bass, is very nice and well built, you can tell just by looking at it. It has a beefy neck and small fretboard, which is something I really enjoy in my playing style. The solo, bass and treble pick-ups are a nice feature too. Overall this is an excellent bass, the only problem is that is lack fret indicators on the side of the neck so when you are playing you may sometimes land flat or sharp, but overall this is an excellent bass and I would suggest it to anyone.

Comments about Hofner 500/1 Vintage '63 Electric Bass Guitar Left-Handed:

I'm a huge Paul Mccartny fan so that's why I bought this bass in the first place but than I jammed with it a we bit and noticed it was the beat beass I had ever played with. So while I was jammim me band came down and said what a beautiful bass it was. They not only liked the style but the sound was amazing, also the lush body was so cumfy on me hands. If you like to play bass by this one its incredible. Beleive me.

.
Very well made bass. If your a bass player and have never played a quality hollow bodied bass with flat round strings you don't know what your missing. This bass sounds so rich and full bodied. In a recording this bass will sound great on anything you throw at it, really fills a lot of space and blends perfectly with guitars and keyboards. This is soooo much fun to play.. and yes this sounds much better than the lesser priced models ( not knocking them, just saying ) .
If we were talking grand pianos, top end concert instruments guitar players really have nothing to complain about. Here for some $$$$ you can get a world class instrument that you can definitely cherish for the rest of your life.

My first German Hofner

Comments about Hofner 500/1 Vintage '63 Electric Bass Guitar Left-Handed:

I recently purchased a left handed 63 Hofner Bass and after playing it I found that it almost played itself. The tone of this Bass is far superior to many other Bass guitars. Prior to this I had a Rogue Bass and a Hofner Icon Bass and even though the Icon Bass was the same shape and style it did not produce the sound quality of the German Hofner. Even though the German Hofner was much more expensive if you are a dedicated Bass player you could not do better than this.

The most famous bass of all time

By Charles Hender

Comments about Hofner 500/1 Vintage '63 Electric Bass Guitar Left-Handed:

I own an original '63, a '62 re-issue, a CT and an ICON. There is not a one of them I would trade. They each have a unique personality and all recall a time when the Beatles music ruled.
Paul McCartney was religated to play bass when Stu Sutcliffe left the band while in Hamburg. He Saw a Hofner 500/1 in the window of a music store and knew it was for him, being left handed it would not look "daft" Upon delivery of his cavern bass Paul became associated wth the most recognized bass ever. By the time The Beatles came to play on Ed Sullivan he had a new Hofner the '62 - '63 hybrid which to this day is known as the Beatle Bass. To fans of the band, it's unique hollow body sound was a signature of the Beatles. Here is a very close replica of the bass that defined a band and a generation.
Hand built in Germany, these bass guitars have the sound quality of the originals with modern refinements not available when the bass was originally made. Sure they are expensive, but for the money and recalling a time when 4 lads from Liverpool changed the world, this is the most iconic and unique sounding bass ever made.

you cannot go wrong.
Value is in what any musical instrument means to you. If you are looking for a unique sound and a bass instantly recognizable, you are here. Hofner's 500/1 V63 is the real deal.... but order soon. Hofner is phasing the '63 out in favor of the '64.
