OVERVIEW

The best of both bass worlds, for a great price.

The Ibanez AEB5E acoustic-electric bass delivers a punchy low end, whether amplified or not. As an unplugged acoustic bass, its agathis body and sides give it a warm tone.

The Ibanez piezo pickup and Ibanez AEQ-202T preamp with 2-band EQ and onboard tuner allows quick tuning and easy amplification with a natural acoustic sound.

Acoustic bass adds a tasty layer of warm, low-end resonance that makes songs come alive and arrangements sound more fleshed-out. When amplified, the Ibanez AEB5E bass guitar uses its pickup and preamp to pump the tone and offer the thump you need at whatever volume.
Case sold separately.

Overall, I'd definitely buy it again! It's my third bass, rounding out the set - it accompanies an Ibanez electric that's my "hard use" bass, and a 1976 Ric 4001 that (naturally) is my "good" bass. Good buy if the acoustic is something you're looking to add to your battery and won't be using as your primary bass. If you're shopping for a primary instrument, I might be tempted to go one notch up the quality scale, but for what I bought it for - amp-less practice and the maybe 5-10% of songs during gigs where I want the acoustic sound, it's perfect.
Tuner, volume, bass and treble controls on a this bass? All work as advertised, lots here for the money. The only down side here is that you have to plug it in for the tuner to work (designed that way). Sorta defeats the acoustic with built-in tuner concept of being able to go play somewhere without an amp... But - easy fix - just stick a plug from an old cord or an adapter in your case so you have a plug to stick in the jack while tuning, and you're good to go.
A fair amount of fret buzz out of the box, and I haven't had a chance to see if a quality set-up will improve that. Some has been helped by adjusting my playing style, going at it a bit more gently than I'm used to with my electrics... But, the finish is nice, the bass plays well, the electronics all work great, it holds a tune, good action, and nice tone - absolutely no complaints at this price!
I frankly, can't believe I got this much bass for this little money! The sound is great, and (unlike some reviews I've read on other acoustics) this one can hold its own volume-wise in an acoustic setting with the six-strings you're likely to be playing with.

My main bass is a Ibanez ATK300 and I am very pleased with it and Ibanez so I'm thinking I got a defective one. I'm just speaking from my experience and the one I got was terrible. Even the paint was scratched and chipped on the back. If I got a defective one there may be more out there so just be careful.
When I got this bass the strings were so high or so low I couldn't even try out the features. I salvaged the pickups and tuner and gave them to my guitar repairman friend and he put them in a similar model and he says they sound great.
Neck was warped. String height was very inconsistent. The only playable string was the E. Chipped paint on back.
The local store charged me more than I feel its worth.

Comments about AEB5E Acoustic-Electric Bass:

I wanted an acoustic bass mostly for learning as I play other string instruments but have never touched a bass guitar. It seems well-made and puts out plenty of sound without an amp.

Comments about Ibanez AEB5E Acoustic-Electric Bass:

I got the Ibanez AEB5E as a Christmas gift from my wife. I've messed around with one before at a music store but never plugged in. I've always thought acoustic basses/guitars sounded better mic'd. This bass proves otherwise! It growls plugged in and is fun and easy to play! I couldn't be more pleased with it!

Comments about Ibanez AEB5E Acoustic-Electric Bass:

sounds great amplified or not. Fun to play, well constructed for the price point. What was surprising was the size of the instrument. It is technically a "short" scale bass, but the body is quite large.
For a smaller person, way too large to comfortably play seated. Would have liked to have known the dimensions of the body before ordering, but that info was not available in the online description.

Comments about Ibanez AEB5E Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Very nice instrument. Pretty, sounds great whether plugged in or not. Natural Bass sound when it's in my Loudbox Artist. The strings appear to have been upgraded. The black trim under the gloss in certain spots isn't perfect but it adds a personal touch in my opinion. It has cream binding galore top and bottom and neck. No complaints about the wood material which looks and sounds very natural. I can just imagine using it with my guitar in my recording mix. How dare Ibanez and Musician's Friend put out such an outstanding Bass that now sits alongsite my LP and Gibson J15. I'm proud to own this and I will never have to justify it saying how little I spent. It's here in my house, on my guitar rack and not going away. You would have to pry it from my arms to get it from me. Thanks MF!
