Comments about Ibanez AGB205 5-String Electric Bass:

A very nice bass and well built with good quality for the money. Sounded really good with my R&B outfit, but I just couldn't get into the short scale and the "B" string was essentially terrible (thanks to the short scale). It's on it's way back to MF as I'm writing this. I think I'll try the Gretsch next even though it's only a 4 string, at least it's a 34" scale.

Comments about Ibanez AGB205 5-String Electric Bass:

This bass really is striking in person. Went in to a store looking for a bass to play metal with but was instead drawn to this and quickly fell in love with it. It's a beauty but it puts out low end like a beast! It's one of the richest, bottom heaviest tones out there. The pickups really give you a variety of tones to work with, the bridge almost like a baritone guitar or Bass VI, with a good twang when playing in the higher register and good growl when playing low. The middle position is woody and resonant like a stand up bass. The neck alone puts out deep, sexy lows, the kind you'd hear on a Massive Attack record, especially when you're stroking the very heavy gauge (.145) low B string, at any point on the fretboard.
Didn't pick it up in the store but I ordered it online at a later date. Out of the box the bass needed a setup (fret buzz city!) but it didn't take more than a few turns of the truss rod and a little raising of the bridge (mind the gold hardware.) The low B string in particular still needs a light touch to keep it from rattling, but that's the nature of this short scale beast. Overall it's not the kind of bass you can really wail on as it doesn't take well to heavy handed playing nor has it been easy to find a good overdriven tone that it works with, though it is possible. In any case, I don't focus on what it can't do and instead love it for what it can 'cause it excels at that. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional low end tones and classy looks.

Comments about Ibanez AGB205 5-String Electric Bass:

I was first attracted to the bass because of its great looks. Primarily I'm a rock bass player but started playing jazz and was influenced by my teachers and piers who all play semi acoustic guitars with either a sound hole or or an f hole. When I got the bass I was a little worried because acoustically it didn't sound all that impressive but when I plugged it in the tone was really beautiful. It really is a mix of electric and acoustic sounding. After spending some time getting it set up with a professional technician, the strings does not buzz although you do have to baby the low B string - you can't strike it too hard.. The one drawback for me is that you can't slap on this bass because the humbucker is in the way. But honestly this is not that kind of bass. This is the kind of bass to play blues or jazz you can rock out on it but it's so sweet, you don't want to play too hard. I really love the bass and recommended for certain situations
