OVERVIEW

A 5-string for those who desire a classic look with the legendary Ibanez tone and craftsmanship you've come to expect.

For the working bassist who prefers a bass in the classic style, here's the Premium ATK. But classic style simply served as a starting point for the bass designers at Ibanez. After a long, intense period of R&D -much of it focused on pick up combinations-Ibanez arrived at a version of the ATK that is markedly versatile. As they like to say: "Every song, every set, every night." Add to that the Ibanez Premium level of quality, on which touring and studio musicians can rely.

ATK Premium features the great combination of the original Ibanez "Sonic Arch" front pickup and a double humbucker rear pickup, providing an extraordinary tonal palette. Output balance of both pickups is maintained, string-to-string, by the design of the matching arched pickup cover and coil inside pickup unit. With a CAP Double Humbucker bridge pickup and a Ibanez proprietary CAP Sonic Arch neck pickup, in combination with the specially made ATK-N3 3-band EQ, the ATK Premium delivers true versatility. Jazz, Gospel, Classic Rock, Metal… there's no form of music outside the comfort zone of the ATK Premium.

Here's why Ibanez calls it "The Premium Treatment" - the fret edges of these ATKs are a result of their luthiers' supreme attention and takes slow, demanding process. As the result, the neck offers a smooth, comfortable fret-hand feel.

Includes gig bag.

Comments about Ibanez ATK805E Premium 5-String Bass Guitar:

Quite possibly one of the most versatile if not the most versatile bass I have ever played. Like a Swiss army knife in bass form.

The electronics package absolutely makes this bass. The combination of the switching system, EQ, and pickup combination allows you to get any sort of tone you'll ever really need. Roll off the treble and turn the blend forward and you can get a real nice round P-bass sound. Turn the blend all the way to the bridge pickup with the switch in the middle position and you'll get that sizzly treble and mid range grunt of a Stingray. Both pickups on full gives you a wall of sound that just punches you in the chest with a huge low end. Plugging into a GK MB200 with 115 cab, it d@mn near shook the house down. The EQ is effective in its purpose. It's not as powerful or transparent as say an Aguilar or Glockenklang but it gets the job done and lets you sculpt the tone of the bass to a good extent.

For such a chunk of wood, this bass is on the light side weighing in just short of 9 and a half pounds. It's really comfortable to have strapped to your shoulders. The neck is fat but incredibly easy to play. The satin finish on the back really lets you fly around the fretboard. Tuners are Hipshot Ultralights which are quality. Ugliest headstock I have seen so far but this bass favors function above form.

The gig bag it comes with is heavily padded and should adequately protect the instrument. The included multi tool is also super handy.

All in all a great deal. This whole package could easily be worth twice as much.

Comments about Ibanez ATK805E Premium 5-String Bass Guitar:

Ive played this bass at a local music store, and I must say this is my favorite ibanez bass. Will I purchase one tho prbably not, why Im more of a rose wood and ebony fretboard kind of guy. But this bass I must say is really versatile but come on Ibanez please expand these range of basses at least the neck options.

Comments about Ibanez ATK805E Premium 5-String Bass Guitar:

Excellent versatile bass for any style of music. The ATK 805 is a big improvement over the single pick up ATK 305 that it replaced (which I also still own) I like the 305 and I gigged it along with my Fender Jazz Basses. The 805 has a better electronics package. The additional single coil is a great improvement and makes this bass far more versatile. So versatile that I could gig this bass alone as it can cop the Jazz Tone.

I would have liked to have a coil tap switch that includes the single coil(like a Music Man Sterling) instead of the blend knob but this is a budget minded bass so it's a compromise I can live with.

The other big improvement is the 18mm string spacing. The 305 had a 16mm string spacing and it always bugged me. The 805 is closer to my Fenders and it's easier to transition from my Fender Jazz V to the ATK. The 805 is lighter then the older 305 and lighter my Fenders which also makes it nice.

Over all you can't go wrong for the money. This thing does almost everything my Fender American Deluxe Jazz V does for Just over half the cost of my Fender (I sprung for the hard case too so it was little more money out the door). The build quality and electronics are very good for the price.

My only real complaint is the color. I own this bass. I like playing it and I gig this thing but... I hate the color. I don't even like the wood pick guard. I think the Walnit Flat color is (IMHO) Ugly. I over look that becasue the bass is quite good. I don't think it would ad too much to the production cost if Ibanez would at least stain it a better color or at least give us the three tone Tobacco Burst that the old 305 had. How about it Ibanez??? Maybe a couple more color options??? But something normal. Not those goofy sparkle finishes...
