Great Bass

Comments about Ibanez GARTB20 Gio GARTB Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass a week ago not sure what to expect. The 2 reviews I read were kind of misleading. First of all to clear this up, there are volume knobs, two actually, and a tone knob. Second, I'm not sure what strings come on it for sure, but I can tell you from experience that they're exactly like the $5 musician's friend strings. So plan on buying some new strings unless you're okay with that. Okay, now for the good stuff, the action is not half bad out of the box, but it's great after adjusting the truss rod, and slight intonation adjustments. It's very light-weight and it's a short scale. Great all around bass.

Comments about Ibanez GARTB20 Gio GARTB Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is a great one to start on if you have smaller hands. Overall it is a good buy. You will need to adjust the intonation and action right out of the box to get it playing smoothly. The thing that bothers me the most about this bass is that it has three tone controls but no volume control built on it. It makes for a good variation in the sound but you will have to control the volume on your amp, which is a hassle live.

Great Bass for the price

By John Wirth

Comments about Ibanez GARTB20 Gio GARTB Electric Bass Guitar:

Short scale, easy to set up, smooth fast slender neck, Les Paul style looks and at a great price.
Out of the box the bass plays decently. However the strings are crap and should be replaced. The controls are 2 volume and 1 tone. I typically play with tone set around 3 and volume on both pickups at 10. The blend of both neck and bridge pickup is very pleasant. But I find it to be a little weak on the first two strings. I run it through a simple pedalboard where I do most of my tone shaping with an EQ and SansAmp on the board and let the bass stay set where I like it.

Neck is very nice and easy to play. I have traditionally used small scale basses and wanted an inexpensive one to use at small club gigs so as not to expose my 1970 Gibson EB-3 to potential damage. Some folks just don't like short scale basses, if you are one of them then this isn't for you. But always remember a 4 string short scal bass was good enough for Jack Bruce and Paul McCartney so complaints about how you can't get the same sound just don't hold up well if you know how to play them, set them up and get the tone you want.
Minor complaints. Finish was flawless. Neck is smooth and fast. Knobs are cheap plastic. Pickups not the best but as mentioned above I do alot of tone shaping on the pedal board. Pickups can be replaced with EMG 35 series style if desired for more power and tone.
As far as short scale basses go this is a great buy. The Squire Vintage Modified Jaguars were not available at the time I purchased and would give them a good hard look if I were buying today, but I am very happy with the playability of this bass.

Not bad for the price...don't be fooled.

Comments about Ibanez GARTB20 Gio GARTB Electric Bass Guitar:

Although this bass is relatively cheap, it is not a bad buy at all. Out of the box, it plays nice (with some minor tweaks of course)and has a beefy tone. Its also fairly lightweight than most basses, which is a relief on the shoulders and back during long gigs. I did have one minor complication with the stock pickups and wiring a week after I recieved it, but I was planning on swapping those out for new ones anyway. Overall, this is a nice buy for starters and experienced musicians alike.
