Comments about Ibanez GSR206L Left-Handed 6-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Let's start with the electronics: be prepared to gut it and get some good ones. Also the plastic knobs can go. I used an inexpensive Bartolini preamp module and CTS pots, and wired it all in with great results.

The bass acoustically has great tone, nice feel, and the hardware is not bad at all. But the electronics are a real issue with me. The pickups are pretty good, they work well with new active electronics. They themselves are passive of course. Try it, and if you like it, drop some money into the electronics, and it is a nice little bass.

Comments about Ibanez GSR206L Left-Handed 6-String Electric Bass Guitar:

First, I should say that I consider myself to be between "novice" and "experienced," closer to experienced.
I actually did not purchase this bass myself, it was a Christmas gift. It is the first six string bass that I have owned, and it is pretty amazing in my opinion, especially for the price. I originally thought that I would not be able to play it very well because of the larger neck, but that is not the case. The neck is surprisingly thin, so that makes it much easier to play on. I actually prefer playing this to playing my four string bass, but part of reason is that I had to raise the action on the four string.
As for the sound, I like it. There is a bit of fret buzz on some frets, but it does not come out through an amplifier.

Summary: It was one of, if not the only, affordable left handed six string basses I could find. I would heartily recommend it.

Could be better....

Comments about Ibanez GSR206L Left-Handed 6-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This Bass plays great!... after I took it to a guitar tech to have the bridge and neck completely readjusted. When the bass came in it had the worst fret buzz I have ever heard from any instrument. after trying to tweak it myself I busted the B string which all the stock strings seemed weak anyways. Once the bass was properly adjusted and new string were placed on it it played great! The neck is surprisingly thin which makes playing fast fun and easy. Another problem is the saddle buzzes quite loudly on the top strings which the guitar tech said he couldn't fix. You can't actually hear the buzz through the amp and it doesn't affect play it just tends to be annoying. All in all I really enjoy this bass, it could be better but at the same time you get what you pay for.
