I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for an upgrade," but not familiar with the possibilities of a 5 string.
I'm an intermediate Bassist (3 yrs) and wanted to upgrade to a 5 string with a low ""B"". I bought this bass used and have had it for a month now. I really dig the style sweeper knob that goes from finger to slap. I don't slap yet", however I found that option useful for dialing tones that I can't get out of my other basses. The pickup blend knob is pretty good and really enhances the tonal range from fat/low to bright and pingy. The best part of the bass for me is that really small neck radius (smaller than a jazz neck profile) because I have small hands. Currently I have GHS medium scale Bass Boomers (low B - .126) on this," run through a Boss Overdrive and Dunlap 10 band EQ pedal and plugged into either my Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0 (12"") or my Ampeg Micro SVT. The only drawback is the height of the pickups are a little too close to the strings despite the standard height adjustment of the action. If you really want to play aggressive", you may find it a little difficult.
The quilted maple top is a touch to the appearance along with the matching headstock makes this bass look high end, without the highend price.
This is a great bass for the higher-ish end beginner or intermediate player with a ton of tonal options.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

All in all, I'd say a great instrument to have to your collection if you're on an intermediate level of play. Great for the metal scene or even punk if you like that extra low "B" in your music.
I found this bass to be a great guitar with the neck radius and the lighter weight than most other basses I've played. Especially for a 5 string, this bass is EXTREMLEY lightweight. I'm a fan of all the tone/pickup knobs as well. The pickups don't really bother me all that much because I'm a "light" player anyway. The only feature I didn't really mind, but wasn't extremley fond of was the output jack. I prefer a top jack for "L" shaped cables, but the angled straight jack works for me I suppose
The quality is fairly good on this bass, but that depends on what you'd be comparing it to. Gibson Thunderbird? I'd give it about a 5 or 6. B.C. Rich Warlock, I'd give it a 10. It has a great sound, especially if used with my Acoustic B100 amp.Sometimes I'll run it through a chorus pedal for that extra little sound tweak and it sounds beautiful...
I'd say it's fairly priced. It's what I would expect for the type, brand, and materials of the bass.

They only thing i dont like about it is it looks TOO good!! I feel underdressed ever time I play it!
There is nothing to complain about on this bass!
I wish it was a nek through but thats not a quality issue, this bass plays and sounds great , love the narrow SR string spacing , and thin neck.
Im giving this bass a ten Becuase it is so comfy to play , sounds great and feels great , love the narrow string spacing and its not a shoulder killer!

I've played the mexican Fender Jazz for many years but decided to give Ibanez a try. Boy, was I glad I did. The SR405 is a great instrument. It's easy to play and the EQ gives a variety of different sounds. I would buy this instrument again.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

This bass has one of the greatest bodies I have ever seen. The picture truly does it no justice. The catch is the pick-ups. They are bowed, this causes two negatives. They get in the way, and they grumble B string. The pick-ups are annoying because you always hit them, whether your using fingers or picks. I love this bass, its wonderful and I have gigged with it, but it is a small setback.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I have the Dark Brown Charcoal Burst quilted maple finish and I can't say enough how much I love this Bass. Craftsmanship is outstanding. Electronics are very quiet and allow great tone shaping to suit just about any style of music. I also have a Peavey BXP 5AC in Tiger Eye finish that is set up with what I'll call "mellow" strings and I love the way it sounds. I heard the Ibanez and really liked the pickups and string combination for more attack and slap style. The style sweep control is really useful. It weighs about 2/3 as much as the Peavey. Can't go wrong with either one of these. Keeping them both forever ! Just remember to unplug when not in use to save the battery power for the active pickups. Enjoy !

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

This is a beautiful playable bass with great hardware and a sexy body. I named mine Vanessa. I had a little problem with the wiring in the bass/trebble knob, but it was a cheap fix. My only real complaint about this bass is its pickups. They are shaped all wrong. They are bowed, so the pickup is much closer to the middle strings than the high and low strings. Consequentially you get blasting mids and meek lows and highs. The Low B is useless unless you have a pedal to add bass. This bass would be a great value if it werent for these pickups. I am looking at replacements.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I'm transitioning from playing lead guitar to bass. I have a Washburn 4 shortscale, a Fender P-bass 4 and an Epi EB-3 4 string. I wanted a 5 string that was light weight and was a good fit for my hands. The Fender P and J basses in a 5 string were just way too wide near the body joint and the Pedulla's and Alembic's were out of my price range.

The only thing I've had to do is raise the action a bit because I use .50-.130 heavy guage strings and the B was rattling a bit on the frets. After raising the action it plays like a charm. And I can play it all night without having to take any meds for shoulder pains.

I use a SansAmp bass preamp, a Crown XTi-2000 power amp in bridge mode, and an Acoustic 8X10 cab and this little bass rocks the house! Now I might be going after it's big brother, the SR5005 Prestige as my next bass.

Been at this a long time. Older players, like me, often run into hand and shoulder issues. I've been searching for a thin fast neck for some time, always thinking the only way to get comfort would be a shorter scale. This bass maintains the 34" scale, while allowing outstanding comfort, and playability. Highly recommend this instrument for all level of players.

I own 5 guitars, and this one is easily the best sounding and best playing one. Its a solid guitar for anyone. The guitar came set up and ready to play right off the shelf, just fiddle with the tone to your liking and your set. If your buying a 5 string for the first time, I would advise you to pick this up, she's a beaut!

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I have had an sr400 for about 3 years now, and I figured I'd upgrade to a 5. I went to my local music shop and traded in my 400 for this amazing 405. I was about to get the black one, but then saw this beautiful quilted maple version, and I was sold. I decided to stick with the SR's because I love the sound and you cant argue with a neck thats the fast. The electronics take a little getting used to, with the Slap/finger stlye knob, but for what I use it for I get exactly the sound I want and it was a very easy transition to the extra string. I would recommend this bass for anyone wanting to branch out to the 5-string world. Nice string spacing, good action, and wonderful balance make this bass a great, beautiful buy.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

After about a year of serious practicing, I decided to upgrade from my starter bass. I had been looking at five strings, but I was hoping to stay at a 4 string. I found this bass in a music shop where I also take lessons, and my teacher pointed it out to me. I picked it up and began slapping out 'My name is mud'. the tone was amazing, incredible punch for a passive bass. The three band EQ makes it incredibly easy to dial in any tone you want. The neck is very quick and the string spacing made the switch to the 5 string a breeze. And for the various prices that I've seen (all around the same amount), it's a steal. The lows are booming, and the highs are crisp. I use a lot of harmonics, and this bass picks them up flawlessly. I would recommend this bass to anyone.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

I have an older model of this bass, but it is pretty much the same thing, I have been pleased with it all around, love the sound and feel. One thing I love about this is the taper of the neck compared to other 5 string basses which really strain your hand when playing. Im a jazz bassist and when I need to navigate the neck to play the odd styles of jazz, this bass makes it so easy and puts out great tone. Though I would not necessarily base your choice off of tone, because a large part of that comes from your amp choice. However I own the Gallien Krueger MB212 (Ultralight) And the tone I receive is awesome.

Great bass. Once you get it all you really have to do is tune it. A little ajustment may be neccesary. The knobs are a little loose, to fix that all you need to do is gently file a flat spot in the stem and it wont twist anymore. overall a very very nice bass.

Comments about Ibanez SR405QM Soundgear 5-String Electric Bass:

This is a very high quality bass. I use it for recording and, at least the top humbucker sounds great. The one closest to the bridge doesn't give me that high sound i want when I do slap. So i Put a sweet-spot single pickup in and installed a cover over and now it looks and sounds great. My only complaint now is that it doesnt have any real protection on the body. Mine is silver and you can clearly see where i have scratched it with a pick. Especially on stage under the lights.

I just bought this bass this evening, and I am very impressed with it. It's super light and felt like almost nothing with my huge leather strap attached to it. The low B is one of the tightest I have seen, from the strings that came on it and the DR Low Riders that I put on it when I got home. The lower end doesn't come through very clear on my 2x10 I have right now but is perfect on a 1x15. I find this 5er coming with me to many a gig.
