Comments about Italia Imola 5-String Fretless Electric Bass Guitar:

Bass is beautiful and stays in tune great.
Came with roundwound strings? Replaced those with D'Addario half rounds and this baby sings!
First fretless bass for this ol' guy, and I can't wait to take it out on a gig!
Would rate as 4.5 stars, can't say flawless, but love it non the less!

Comments about Italia Imola 5-String Fretless Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass specifically to downgrade from my very heavy, wide-necked 6-string basses (to mitigate shoulder/wrist pain). This fretless bass is very lightweight (thanks, f-hole!), and plays quite well once you adjust the action and put flatwounds on it. Seriously, can anyone tell me why fretless basses ALWAYS ship with roundwound strings? The fingerboard can easily get scored during shipping, though that thankfully didn't happen to mine.

Out-of-the-box, action was terrible and it was a bit painful to play. After some adjustments (lowering the action and having to bore out the low B-string channel on the nut so the new flatwound B would fit) it plays really well. Shipping time was unreal; it took four days to get from Louisville to West Coast Canada. In terms of tone, it has a fat, percussive edge to it along with a decent amount of that pretty, fretless "mwah". Both of my previous 6-string basses had active pickups, and the Imola's passive pickups easily produce enough volume and tone to compete. It's hard to tell whether the passives produce less noise/feedback overall, but I suspect they do. Recordings sound pretty good so far.

Of course everything is subjective when it comes to looks, but man is this thing gorgeous. The whole package is just a beautiful guitar, no bones about it. This bass HAS NO FRET MARKERS. The pictures on the site do not show this, so if you're looking for a fretless with markers keep this in mind.

Comments about Italia Imola 5-String Fretless Electric Bass Guitar:

This 5-string can do the job anywhere, anytime and without shoulder fatigue. The problem with many 5-strings is weight and Italia takes care of that one. In terms of fretless 5, it is easy to play and produces an excellent tone to my ears. Love it.

A must have for bass players

    By Steveoshay

Comments about Italia Imola 5-String Fretless Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased the Imola 5 string fretless and it is a wonderful bass for the money. My first impression was I love the look, absolutely beautiful. It has a great feeling neck, it plays very well and the pickups are quite hot for being passive. The sound throws a big punch and is level through all 5 strings. The only thing I would add is more tone control for musicians that play multiple basses during the course of a show. My bass came with a couple minor flaws in the finish and pick guard but MF made it right and refunded some money. Overall a great bass for the price.

Vintage vibe in a modern world.

Comments about Italia Imola 5-String Fretless Electric Bass Guitar:

I've been playing fretless bass for 35 of my 54 years, have had more basses than I can count and remember, and the Italia Imola 5 string fretless is simply the most amazing "ready to play ouy of the box" instrument I've ever owned. A wonderful "jazz" bass growl and tone thanks to the passive J bass pickups, EXTREMELY comfortable and effortless neck, and that so cool retro Ampeg style body. Light weight, hum free quiet, sustain galore and !!FINALLY!! no dead spots and dead notes anywhere to be found on the rosewood board. Satin finish neck, great hardware, this one's a keeper. And it didn't break the bank:)
