World-class design and craftsmanship in an surprisingly affordable price range.

The NXT Series Double Bass opens up a new horizon for the serious bassist looking to play a great instrument on a limited budget. These new instruments, crafted in the Czech Republic by the makers of the renowned CR Series, exemplify flawless workmanship at an incredible value.

The NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass has a ¾ sized solid maple body and neck, and a graduated ebony fingerboard for a rich, full tone that rings true for every note. Asymmetrical fingerboard relief facilitates an even 'growl' from the higher strings and a clear, powerful lower register. The adjustable bridge and truss rod allow for low, fast action, or for higher string settings that encourage the traditional acoustic player to 'dig in' with gusto.

The on-board Polar Pickup System is an exciting new dimension in string instrument performance that offers powerful dynamics and rich full sound. Two separate mounted transducers beneath the adjustable bridge offer unlimited expressive potential. Each pickup is specialized for a specific task. A convenient switch gives you the choice to select a traditional arco mode for percussive attack and dynamic bowed response, or pizzicato mode for a smooth, sustained tone. Equipped with single volume and tone controls, the passive electronics provide plenty of overhead for the ultimate sound without cumbersome batteries.

The NXT 4-string Double Basses can be strung with electric or traditional acoustic strings, allowing the player to select from a wide range of set-up options, each with a unique sound and feel. In combination with the easy adjustment of basic set-up parameters, this versatile bass is adaptable to many different styles of music. Includes a self-supporting tripod stand with full adjustments for height and angle, and a padded gig bag that holds the stand and also has a pocket for a bow.

Comments about NS Design NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass:

I played upright for four years in my youth and have always wanted to play again. I have played bass guitar for decades in the interum. I tried an Eminence EUB and found I just could not develop enough stamina in my left hand per the standard string height of an upright. I use a Fishman Platnum between the bass and the amp. I have not changed strings. What I get is an upright-esk sound that I simply love. Very responsive to fingering techniques. Huge difference between rolling vs plucking strings and a massive range inbetween. Amazingly easy to play with the low string height. Played for three hours the first time I sat down with it. Simply a joy. My primary band is a 70's entertainment band with a fusion and blues twist. This instrument makes many of our piices "pop"! It adds a flavor that just can not be achieved with a guitar. The markings are dead on and I am finding that my upright chops are comming back fast. The resonance is extream. Be ready to bone up on your muting techniques. With that said, some amazing sounds can be achieved by working that resonance so I am pleased to have it. I could draw more comparisons to both upright and guitar, but the reality is that it is an instrument onto itself. It holds a strong and relivent place in my arsonal second to none. The final perk is that it is a crowd pleaser. Opens up a lot of conversation while "working" the audiance during breaks. If you like solitary time during breaks, find a back door out.

Comments about NS Design NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass:

This bass has served me more than well in my professional outings. There are a few things you need to know if looking to purchase one though. You'll most likely want to consider a quality string replacement with Spirocores. Secondly, even if forgoing the former, you will absolutely need a preamp to run this bass through. You simply cannot get a good upright tone without one. For me, I use a Tech 21 Deluxe, which allows me three presets on both the NXT and my 5 string. I could have bought a $3k+ upright and had to deal with carting it around. Instead, I ended up with better live tone, ease of transport, and a perfect solution to my own gigging situation. If you're looking to play this thing live, get yourself a preamp and don't hesitate, it's undoubtedly worth it.

Comments about NS Design NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass:

Minus the strings that came with the bass, and the tripod it came with, everything about this bass is great. I already foresaw the tripod being a problem so i highly encourage buying the endpin attachment.
Not only does is sound very close to an upright, but the action and neck feel and almost indistinguishable. I mainly play jazz and latin jazz, and this bass has lent itself sound wise and feel wise perfectly to these mediums. Not to mention, even the most veteran jazz musicians, including my teacher lonnie plaxico who made his living with his cutom electric upright, love this bass.

            Great investment

Comments about NS Design NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass:

I have a dozen or so basses and one solid wood acoustic stand up. I was looking for a EUB for my big band, jazz and worship work. Although I have only had the bass for a couple of weeks I am impressed with the quality, sound and portability. I played it with a big band this week and it performed very well. Loud and no feedback! The bowing sounds squeeky and scratchy but should improve with practice and maybe different strings.

            NS WAV 4

Comments about NS Design NXT 4-String Electric Double Bass:

The only con to thus EUB versus an acoustic upright bass is landmarks. For example, when I had an acoustic upright, I knew if my left thumb was up around where the neck joined the body, I could probably play in position IV and be reasonably close to the D on the G string. The NS Wave lacks that land mark, so playing higher on the neck is a bit more difficult, however, the markers are extremely accurate, so for folks just starting EUB is should be a non-issue. For folks that have played acoustic upright, it's just a little adjustment until you get a feel for the instrument. I suppose I could put a piece of tape on the neck...
I've had my NS WAV 4 for about three years. Each time I play her I'm amazed at how much like an upright she sounds. Just after I got her I bought a cheap French bow and tried to relive my glory days playing classical music - I had absolutely NO luck getting a good tone. Pizzicato was always awesome, mind you. Jump to present - I spent some denaro on a good bow and it made a world of difference. This EUB sings!! I can't wait until tomrrow when I get to play her with an orchestra at a rehearsal.
FIt and finish are incredible. Pickup works well and captures the awesome MWAH sound of acoustic upright basses.
Considering that a decent upright would cost at least twice what these go for, I consider it a solid investment and would recommend it to anyone wanting to make the jump from electric to upright.
