I find this bass to be absolutely amazing! The known Musicman quality is definity here. I didn't think I would ever beat out my Rickenbacker for my favorite bass, but this one wins by a long shot.

Finish: The finsih on the instrument is flawless. I ordered the white, (which it seems Musiciansfriend really carries the color White Pearl) but is gorgous. So classy and well done. The matching head and great poly finsh really tie it all together.

Neck:Wow! Over the years I have grown very comformtable with necks with finish on the back, (Rickenbacker, Epiphone, Gibson, etc.) but the light oil finish on the back of the neck is just so smooth and just feels like home. The fret job seems to be well done and no flaws whatsoever. I love this neck.

Pickups: Two, count 'em TWO Musicman humbuckers! So only about $70 more than a standard Stingray, you get so many more possiblilies. I really don't see the reason in getting just the single pickup. With the 5 way swith you get the standard Stingray sound, a very nice P-Bass sound (postition 4) and a very dark, yet aggressive mudbucker type sound. (postition 5). Not to mention that you still have two more options and very powerful active electronics. I don't see why I didn'y buy one of these sooner.

The bass comes in a decent hardshell case that has the musicman name on the outside. It's intonation and setup were pretty spot on out of the box and just beggs to be played. I only have one complaint, my other basses aren't getting any playing time!

This bass was poorly set-up. I had to take it straight to my luther to work on the lower E
string fret noise and the playing height was near impossible to set for a clean feel. I should have returned it but I really like the tone quality and variable pitch balances it can produce. So I made the additional investment to make it a player. It's nowhere as solid as my 72 Fender J bass but I did buy it because I wanted a totally different sound, also the unfinished quality of the back of the neck can cause you to make a lot of manual playing adjustments with your left hand. I don't recommend the stingray HH to a novice , I'm also perplexed by Randy Jacksons glowing approval of this axe. I'm sure he wasn't playing one off the rack. This is my third guitar from Musician's Friend and my first bad experience.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

    Love Love Love!!
I've owned a Fender P, an Ibanez Sound Gear, an Ibanez BTB, a Ric 4003, a Warwick, a Sting Ray, and a few other basses over the years. The Sting Ray HH far exceeds all of them! Already a great sounding and versatile bass, the extra pick up in the HH makes this bass a MONSTER. RIght out of the box, the action is smooth, the strings are slinky and the bottom end growls like no other without sacrificing the bright highs. I'm a big proponent of Bartolini pick ups, but the dual HH pickups are soooo much better. My bass is a transparent gold model...and the picture does not do any justice to the beauty of the wood grain on the actual bass. I can't put it down.

Most amazing bass I have ever played

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

Overall there is no better bass you can get. The neck is adjusted perfectly, your hand easily slides across the neck, your fingers move around the fret board with ease, and the tone is better by far then any other. If you are serious about playing bass I would suggest trying to put the money together to get one of these because there is absolutely no dissapointment in it.
The amazing tone of this instrument is like any other. The duel pick ups allow for a wide range of sounds. No matter What kind of music you play this bass is the one you need! I ordered my bass off of musicians friend after playing it at guitar center and having it recommended by my teacher and I coudn't be happier. After taking it out of the box the entire bass was adjusted almost perfectly. The only thing I had to do was lower the bridge a little bit to get it right where I like it. The back of the neck has already been sanded down allowing your hand to easily glide across it and to play with ease. Not only does it play amazing but it looks amazing too. I got mine in black cherry burst and the look of this bass is simply stunning.
Never have I played a bass like this one. If your looking for a top quality bass this one beats all others. I was deciding between this and a fender p bass and this one just blows the fender away. There is absolutely no comparison between them. If you have the money to drop on it, there is no better bass that you will be able to find.
This bass is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. This bass cost more then a lot of other basses and thats because it sounds a lot better then any bass i have ever heard. I was however upset that the price varried simply by the color of the bass.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

I've been shopping around for a new bass for a while, so today I headed over to guitar center and sam ash. I tried several fender models i had been looking at online and some of the $1000 warwick models. The sales associate at GC pointed me to this baby. NONE OF THE OTHER MODELS EVEN COMPARED TO THIS. This bass proved to provide an increadibly wide variety of tones, I could make it sound like anything. It also excels in feel and playability. The neck was glossed and felt increadible against my fingers. I have heard people complain about construction quality in modern stingrays, but this baby proved 'em wrong. No problems with quality whatsoever. When i get the rest of the money to buy this bass, I will not hesitate.

This bass is absolutely amazing, it sounds amazing and feels amazing. The neck of this bass blew me away, it's so smooth and feels unlike anything I have ever played before. I constantly get compliments on it from people. At first In didn't know if it was worth the price but after I finally got it and played it I realized it most definitely is. It's with every last penny. I don't think I will ever find a bass that will replace this one as my favourite. If you are considering buying this bass buy it right now.

Great basses , top quility electronics, tuners are as solid as it gets, finish very well done, the necks are wide for some but the slickist out there the neck finish is the best in the buisness. Stingrays are muti sound regardless of the pickup configuration HH, H, HS they all work really well. They are heavy but worth the weight no pun intended!!!

This bass is great. The fret ends are perfectly filed. The neck needed a slight truss rod adjustment because the fretboard had a soap dish bow. It took one turn and now it's perfect. The bass sounds great and feels great. I can't find any faults beside the neck adjustment. If you don't like this this bass you might have got yourself a lemon and need to complain. My favorite bass next to a custom shop bass.

This bass is incredible! I bought a 2007 limited edition in the "Blue Dawn" color off of ebay and it's beautiful! The double humbuckers crank out sick tone with the preamp. The 5-way switch is awesome to! When I got it it had just recently had a pro setup and it still plays like new. I recommend putting on Marcus Miller signature DR Fatbeams for a sick slap tone, if thats your style....you gotta get one of these!

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

The person who wrote the initial review must have meant to write about a new Rickenbacker perhaps; or played an example that had been run over by a truck. Nothing leaves the Music Man factory with questionable quality. I saw that for myself in San Luis Obispo at the Music Man open house. You can buy any Music Man product with 100% peace of mind, knowing that you have just purchased one of the best and best-supported instruments on the market. The Stingray 4-string HH is a fantastic instrument in all respects with a tone that rivals my Wal bass for sheer tonal nirvana. The pickup selection gives not only the classic Stingray tone, but also some Jazz Bass and P-bass tones that will make any player smile. The neck is chunkier than the Bongo or the slim Sterling neck, but is still a delight (think P-bass.) Try one out. You'll be glad you did.

I've been playing bass for 20 years and after owning Ken Smith, Warwicks, Reverends, Fenders, Spectors, Kinals, Carvins ...etc. This bass is the BEST purchase I ever made. If I only knew what I know now I could've saved my money. To my surprise the neck was more like a fender jazz then a precision neck which was good for me. The neck is perfect, no fret problems. The black cherry finish is fine. The pictures don't do this bass justice. Musicman's quality control is superb. This bass plays and sounds as good if not better then basses that cost twice as much. The alnico pickups are great. Do yourself a favor and buy this bass and save some $$$$. Don't buy one those Warwicks with dents and screwed up intonation on them.

The StingRay HH 4-String Bass takes the StingRay to a whole new level. Not only can it sound like a StingRay,it can sound like a Big Fat P or even J like if needed. Both PUs in full Humbucking mode is earth shattering!! The quality is flawless. Ready to play as soon as I took it out of the case. The transparent gold color and rosewood fretboard are beautiful!! Get it,you won't be sorry.

Sounds great, plays great. Only draw back is action. Soon as I got it I had to resetup. I've got action slammed as low as I can get it and I think I should be able to go lower with a bass with this kind of price tag. My other bass is an active schecter ultrabass. It's a cheaper bass and I can no doubt get it to play faster than the stingray. Quality obviously better on stingray but that's my only gripe.

Bought the Stealth edition on sale, after trying one in person. The Ebony fret board gives a great brightness & clarity to the sound, compared to the Rosewood fret board I also played. Sounds better than my old Warwick Thumb from 2000 or 2001, for half the price of a new Thumb. This bass sounds as good as W a l without paying 4 times as much & waiting 2 years for it to be built. I'm definitely not buying 1 with a rosewood fret board, but I'd like to buy 1 with a Maple fret board.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay HH 4-String Bass:

This is the second Bass I've owned. After over a year of playing an entry level Ibanez SG-200, I felt I was ready to step up. I had read a lot about many basses and this one just seemed to hit all the right qualities I was looking for. It plays very nicely, smooth neck and great tonal variety from the 2 pickups and 5 way selector as well as the 3 way tone control. The bass is a little heavier then the SG-200 as it is of a higher quality hardwood, and its difference in body shape and contour has made me change my my posture for playing a bit, but I am leaning to love it...

"I cant figure out why they are coming up for sale......these babies rock"....yup...that's a quote from Sterling Ball on this bass. He can't understand why so many are on ebay for sale. Cause they are crap. Go for the original stingray...older year...so you don't run into quality issues.
