I've had the pleasure of playing my Peavey Cirrus 5-string for almost 7 years. I've been a musician for over 35 years and the Peavey Cirrus is one of the finest instruments I've ever played. When I decided to get a 5-string I tried quite a few brands, but when I was handed the Peavey Cirrus it was instantly obvious that it was the one. I've not played a more comfortable bass, it plays like a dream! I mainly play Jazz and Contemporay Christian music and pickup an occassional rock, blues or country gig, but the Peavey Cirrus always sounds great in any type of music. The active electronics are incredible! You can dial-in many different tones ranging from a growly bridge pickup sound, big round fat tones for some nice 4/4 walking, or anything you want for rock and slapping. It is very even sounding all over the neck, the notes are clear and precise from the open strings to the 24th fret. I make part of my living with music, so my Cirrus Bass is used several times a week, and it has never let me down. I have had to replace the G and A string tuners, (not at the same time of course), but when I called the folks at Peavey they were great to deal with. Very friendly and helpful. Over all, I would highly recommend the Peavey Cirrus, you'll love it!

This is THE BEST bass around right now. Period. Just read up on this amazing instrument and you'll see why everyone is fighting over them. Be sure to get the USA Cirrus, though. The BXP series is still nice, but you'll still envy the US-made Cirrus 5. The neck-through body design is really what makes the tone and sustain of this bass tops. The double truss is the best money can buy. The actives are the purest-sounding pickups I've heard in years. Put some nice round Jazz Strings and get the smoothest bass possible. Slap some bright flats on for excellent popin and funk. The definition of the sound of this bass is what sets it apart from the crowd, with less neck irritation than any other. The action is so smooth, you'll start to hate to play anything but your Cirrus. I've only had to set mine up ONCE in it's entire life. I've NEVER had a problem with the on-board electronics or pickups. You won't either.Forget Warwick, forget Godlike, Schecter, or even Olympic. Forget everything you thought you knew about Peavey Basses. This breaks the mold and WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. EVER.

Fell in love with the neck action.

You put your hands on the neck and end a thirty year seach for your next bass.... plug it in and the sound confirms it. It does take a while to get use to the fret spacing on the 35" neck when you are on the the top half. but as you move down the neck its really nice to have that little bit of extra room.

Great Bass

This bass is amazing! I play a wide variety of music from funk to country and this bass covers them all. The only complaint I have about this bass is that it has a very short battery life if played daily. Great bass! Worth the money.

Great sound

WHen I took my student loan money to the music store, I was thinking about a top-of-the-line Ernie Ball or Fender Precision. There happened to be a Cirrus there, so I played it and was floored. It's got a great versatility of sound I used to get out of an old G&L L-2000, between the top and bottom pickups you can get the Jazz Growl or the Precision pop. It's an attractive bass, although it came with chintzy rubber control knobs. Very vibrant sound, I love it for playing blues and rock.

Great bass

Surprised to see some of the low ratings as I have had great results from this bass. It has quiet and dependable electronics and the 18v preamp and eq gives it tones of tonality. I am amazed at the tones I can get from this rig, and can almost emulate the growl of my 78 Rick, almost. Overall a great 5 string with sustain I can count on.

The best bass around.

I dare you to put it down

I've owned my Cirrus 5 (Wenge) for 8 years, and it continues to be my go-to axe no matter what, where or when I'm playing. Great action, fast neck, versatile on-board eq, monster low B, balanced and rock-solid, I've played it against my pricier Alembic and Ken Smith basses and still come back to my Cirrus like a home cooked meal. Maybe the best testament to the true quality of this instrument is how EVERY time a bass player comes up to the stage, squints and says, "that's a Peavey? Damn."

The best bass I've ever played!

I bought one of the first Peavey Cirrus 5 basses when they came on the market. I have played about every brand bass there is and nothing compares to the Cirrus! Peavey really did their homework on this instrument. It has the tone, light weight, durability, looks and ease of playing. The only problem I've had with mine was a tuning machine broke, so I replaced ALL of them to be on the safe side. I have a fretless than I seldom play and am thinking about trading it in on another new Cirrus 5. It's the only bass I need!

Outstanding Instrument!

I have had my Cirrus 5 string bass for approximately five years. I have owned several basses and have "auditioned" numerous others. Of the basses I tried and liked, the Cirrus outplayed the others and was far less expensive; we're talking about half the price or more. My first experience was with the bubinga model (with pau ferro neck). While it produces a smooth, warm sound, I found I preferred the maple body/maple neck/pau ferro fingerboard version, which sounded slightly brighter to me. Whether I play through my SWR Super Redhead combo or my LA-8 amps, the sound is fantastic; crisp, punchy (when necessary), and always controlled. Regardless of my style and the genre of the music I'm playing, the sound is always articulate and defined, without harshness. There is no other competitive bass anywhere near this price range, period!

My best bass

By RxBass

I had no idea that Peavey made basses like this! I was in a music store one day trying out a bunch of 5 string basses when the sales guy came over and said "try the Peavey out" I wasn't expecting to be completly blown away. It took me 2 minutes to decide to buy it but all day to put it down. The neck is most comfortable neck I have ever felt on a bass guitar. The pickups are perfectly quiet. This bass is 1/2 the price of similar quality basses. Get it, you won't regret it!
