Rickenbacker

Just like Paul's current favorite, only it's YOURS!

The Rickenbacker 4001C64S C Series Electric Bass Guitar is a re-creation of Paul McCartney's original 4001S bass as it looks now after several decades of modifications. Reshaped body for even greater playing comfort, zero-fret rosewood fingerboard for more accurate intonation and easier action, 1960s style toaster-top bass pickup, and enhanced tailpiece make this Rickenbacker a consummate gigging axe for the discerning professional. Reverse headstock imparts that cool lefty look even on right-handed instruments. Thin satin sealer-only finish protects the natural maple body and neck. Rickenbacker includes a hardshell case with your 4001C64S bass.

I own a few basses. custom shop jazz, 51 & 57 P basses, thunderbird, hofner beatle bass, and a Rickenbacker 4003. I must say i probably enjoy this bass the most. Well im still in the honeymoon phase but it feels so nice. I thought it would be very similar to my 4003 but its a different animal. The neck feels much better. It doesnt have any laquer that gets sticky, feels like a pool cue (which i like). Action was nice and low from purchase. Sounds great. Has the "Rick" growl. I havent really sat down and AB' d it yet to my 4003 but it seems to have a edge on the low end but also has really nice mid. I do like the mid from my 4003 but this bass sounds incredible as well. Very well rounded. Anyway pick one up if your a paul/rickenbacker fan its a great bass.

Rickenbacker 4001 C64S - They did it right (sad they discontinued it)

Features:

Pretty much perfect in every way. The toaster neck pickup, the horseshoe bridge pickup, the sanded body with light seal finish, the reverse headstock, the zero fret. A right handed version of McCartney's famous Ric.

The balance is great. The playability is phenomenal.

Quality:

Quality is top notch. Typical of Rickenbacker. I own several Ric guitars and have never been disappointed with the high quality of their instruments.

Value:

Rics are not cheap, and there is a reason for that. They are quality instruments. That being said, the 4001 C64S is a little more expensive than the standard 4003. But it is well worth it if the Macca vibe is what you're looking for.

Overall:

My first electric guitar was a Rickenbacker. My first ever new guitar was a special order Rickenbacker. I love the quality and the unique sound.

I had never had, but always wanted a Ric bass, but I was hesitant to spend the money on a 4003.

When I saw the 4001 C64S, I knew I had to have one. It oozes the McCartney vibe and has great tone and playability. If you have the chance to pick up one of these beauties, don't wait. They are discontinued and we will probably not see the likes of them again any time soon.

The sanded and light seal finish is great. The weight is a little less than a 4003, but not by much. It has a fantastic balance and the neck is smooth as silk.

This is my first Ric bass, and I am more than happy with it. It gets tones that I have wanted for a long time. The combination of the toaster and horseshoe pickups cannot be matched.

If you are looking for the classic Ric bass sound, spend a little extra and get one of these babies.

Features:

If you are a paul mccartney/wings fan and a bass player you Have to have this bass! ive been putting off buying one for several years now and decided now is the time!...great craftsmanship, nice replica of the real bass (without the relic job that i think they should have offered..like a jaco tribute custom shop type of 'spot-on' replica), and of course great sound!..my only complaint is the horseshoe pickup..a non-removeable cover that is right in the sweet spot..ughhh!

Quality:

craftsmanship A1..great looking and functional case..and musicians friend goes the extra mile to protectively package the bass and insure it arrives safely to your door!

Value:

i got this a few weeks ago at an UNBEATABLE sale price..theyve since gone back to their reg.pricing.if you can get one on sale no doubt its an incredible value..otherwise, try and find one new elsewhere..they will be priced at a premium

Overall:

great bass with the vibe of sir paul...if youre gonna use it as a player you may not like the horseshoe pickup situation, but as an investment and collectible piece you cant go wrong having one of these in your arsenal!....the zero fret and reshaped body set it apart from the regular 4001c64, so get the one that counts!!!!! be the Man, and make your "Band on the Run" with this great bass!

This is a very nice instrument.  The entire guitar is smooth and feels very comfortable, especially the neck. The sound in comparison to a 4001/3 has a bit more warmth and punch.  The frets have a lower profile on the neck which brings the strings closer so it is very playable.  Is it worth the extra $1000+ over a 4003?  In my opinion, this should probably be your second RIC after you own a  4003 and the extra money this bass costs is not going to hurt too much.  It?s a great instrument, but I think the 4003 would serve most players well.  Let your 4003 take the road dings and save this one for your home or studio.

The Bass....

Excellent!     "Real" alternative choice in Bass guitars.

I bought a "new" 2010 model of this series.     As a working Bassists here in Oz all I can say is after reading other peoples comments is that I must be very lucky!     My bass is Awesome and I would most certainly recommend to anyone who is seriously interested in spending there hard earned dough on one of these babes to go right ahead!     Had to do a little set up once received buts that to be expected thru travelling etc etc.     Adjustments were fairly easy to do.     Man what a tone... yummy!

A little disappointed in the finish (there are dust lumps in the finish).     But in saying that IT IS only a sealer finish! So from that view its ok! Still feels good to play.     They have tried to do a "wearing over time" effect & modeled this model on Paul Macartney's - how it would look in 30yrs etc etc. Great!

The only thing I would like to see added to theses basses is a contouring of the slab under the elbow/forearm (like the P & Jbass on Fenders).     Great alternative instrument.

Pretty happy with value for money.
