All the Rogue LX400 Pro bass needs to live up to the hype Musician's Friend has put on it is a little quality control. The problems I have had thus far should have been caught before it ever left a factory or warehouse. I had to immediately replace the nut because the one on the bass was grooved all the way to the fretboard. NO amount of setup was going to correct that. It should have never left the factory/warehouse in that condition. The strings weren't very good, but I knew that from the reviews already written. I paid $** to replace the nut and new strings were $** (I had ordered strings with the bass). This was cheaper than sending the thing back for repair and having to wait for it to return. Now for the up-side. This bass has a sleek style to it and looks really good. The paint is even and polished. The active electronics seem to work fine and I make sure I unplug my bass to lengthen the life of the battery. The sound is awesome with a nice deep rumble and crisp highs. The neck is thin enough to allow my hand to easily navigate the freboard. The bass itself is lightweight and easy to maneuver. Overall I am happy with the Rogue LX400 Pro and think it will fit my needs for a while. I do hope Musician's Friend will look at the quality control aspect of their operation. It will result in a much higher score on their products and much more satisfied customers.

The Rogue LX400 Pro is a very nice looking Bass,Has a great tone, good electronics but has the worst setup I have ever seen on any guitar.it is aparent that the manufacturer spent absolutley no effort doing any nut or fret work on these guitars which I suppose that contributes to the low price. I have seen build it yourself kit guitars with better setups, seriously!the nut slot depth is not deep enough and does not follow the contour of the fretboard and the frets are high and low all the way down the board. However once I replaced the Graphite nut with a bone nut and leveled the frets it turned out to be a very nice playing bass, with the labror I have in this bass I would not take less than $350.00 and is probably one of my favorite bass guitars now. If you buy one of these Bass guitars you will want to go ahead and buy some nut files and fret files.Great bass for learning how to do setup work which in the end should produce a fine playing instrument.

        GREAT BASS BUT

        By Gramps77

        from Lockport NY

Ordered the liquid red finish, arrived and looked fantastic with the exception of hard paste polish that was left on bass from the buffing process. The strigs were so low that they actually were laying on the frets-this was corrected by a truss rod and bridge adjustments and of course a retuning. The strings are also of very poor quality so I am replacing them with a quality flatwound set. The quality of the instrument itself is very good to excellent, the neck was straight, and the active electronics do what they are supposed to do. I have owned 3 other rogue bass guitars and each of them arrived raedy to go. I would suggest that rogue needs to watch their quality control better, but for the money this was an excellent purchase once the setup was done and the strings are changed.

        Great Bass

        By Al-c4Bmg

Over the last 30 years I've played many different basses, some expensive some not. This is the 3rd rogue I've purchased and what I can say is this. The bass looks great, plays great, sounds great, is well balanced and light. If you think you can't get a great bass for this price you're wrong. I recommend this bass for any beginner, novice or pro.

Has it been four years already?

        By RadioMark

        from Minnesota

I decided to pick up the bass about the time I moved to a new community and needed something to do in my spare time. After seeing the "best value" reviews I went for the LX400 and have not been disappointed. I liked it best with flatwound strings though I'm using half-rounds now and they are fine. Had to set up the neck and saddles but it was no biggie and it plays really well. It's been a good investment for me.

        Good for the money!

        By Stebro2151

I've had my rogue LX400 Pro for 2 years now, I got the red one on sale for $150 from here. All in all a great buy, however there are some issues, first the tone pots are all most worthless and as others have said the strings are no good. One of the tuners popped a washer and now slips, $78 for new tuners. But the tone is very good for the money, this is not a great bass but it's not going to be for the price, you get what you pay for, sometimes you get lucky! Is it a good buy? You bet, try one!

Okay so I own 2 Fender American Deluxes and 2 Rouges. A 5string active and 4 string active. They sound just as good as my Fenders. When recording u wouldnt be able to tell the difference. I use DR strings with them and they sound amazing with these axes! BUY THIS BASS!

        Amazing! :)

        By bassistofbass

This is the first bass i've bought and it is a really good bass. i heard a comment about the frets being different hights but on mine they are all perfect it. it has a 4 tone controlls which of a great veriety of tone you can choose. It is better then even some basses i've played that are even more expensive. For a more expirienced bassist i recomend an esp ltd standard d series, i played one a few times and it's really good but for a more beginner bassist this is a really good bass.

Rogue LX400 Pro 4-String Electric Bass

        By Yank_teh_bassist

        from Vero Beach, Fl

I just bought this bass on Sunday, and it came today (thursday). I bought this bass as a backup for another bass of mine. I think I'll use this bass primarily now. The other bass of mine (list $500, by the way) doesn't even compare to the lows dished out by this one, even through the same amp. The feature are amazing, with a treble and bass cut/boost, and active/passive pickups. I can't belive Rouge is selling these things so cheap. The only flaw is that the factory setup is really bad, and the strings are el cheapo. Do yourself a favor and buy new strings when you order this bass, particularly Ernie Balls :)

        Amazing

        By Wolfster

        from Louisville, Kentucky

I got this bass in the black and it looks incredible. Right out of the box it played pretty good but I knew it needed some set up. I adjusted the truss rod and string saddles and it played great. I also replaced the strings with DR strings because the strings that come with it are so terrible, they are not even worth keeping as spares. Has cut out tuners so only takes me 10 minutes to string it. Great for a first bass, nice sound and fairly light.
