I got the Rogue LX400 bass around March of this year. I'm not a heavy bass player, I mainly play guitar and sing, but occasionally I need to put my hands on a bass for recording purposes.

It's a great looking and great feeling instrument. There were a few small blemishes in the finish, but I wasn't buying this as a collector's item or anything, so it didn't bother me. The neck was straight, so I had my regular tech guy set it up. Between March and October, I played it once or twice, and was pretty pleased.

Then, in October, I got a gig playing bass in the pit band for a production of "Rent." I had ten days to learn 43 tunes on bass. Suffice it to say I got to know this bass VERY well in those ten days! Granted this is only the second bass I've owned, but this thing is a joy to play compared to the Yamaha bass I used to have. After ten consecutive days of 8-10 hour practice sessions, I was in love with it.

Once dress rehearsals for the show started, I couldn't believe how many compliments I got on this bass. Almost every day, someone in the band would tell me how great they thought it looked and/or sounded. I was pretty surprised, considering these guys were all formally trained, full-time, working musicians, and both of the guitarists were also bass players. They were also playing instruments much more expensive than this one.

I'm sure there are higher quality basses out there, but for the price, I don't see how you could do better than this, especially for a beginner to intermediate player.

I ordered the Rouge Sunburst LX400 Pro 2-0-2011.Plus: Nice looking, really nice tone, fairly easy to play, wide neck, not to heavy.Minus: Poor quality when constructed. Mine had the through body holes missed drilled which made the bridge cover 3/4 of the string holes, bending the strings about 30 degrees which made bad intonation. The bridge had to be removed to restring the E & A strings. I then tried to restring it through the bridge & the through hole inserts fell out. The neck had spots of residue glue which I cleaned off with scotch brite. Several frets had smuge marks on the stain & some of the stain wiped off on my finger. A couple of the frets where high which caused string vibration.Over All: The LX 400 Pro has the makings of an excellent bass if Rouge would step up their quality control efforts. I returned it for a Fender.

Good Bass for Price Paid

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

Very good value.
Solid mass bridge with through body strings. 6 bolts keep the neck nice and secure. Active electronics nice. Would prefer individual volume controls but mix pot fine. Body color darker than expected but still nice. Seems well balanced but have not used with strap yet.
Fit an finish very nice. No scratches, glue or other blems. Neck impeccable with good selection of wood (no knots, etc.). Frets finished very nicely. Input jack feels solid. Tuners good. Not the best but for the price point very good.
Very good value for the money spent (on clearance). Full price would be good. Blows away Epi and Squire models at same price point.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased this for my son about a year ago. He wanted to learn to play bass and this looked like a decent one to start with. That doesn't do this bass justice. When we received it, I was amazed by the look of it. The top and finish on this are up there with some of the guitars I have paid quite a lot more for. Then I plugged it in and tuned it up for him and was blown way by the sound. The bridge pick up was clear and punchy, the way bass should sound. The neck pick up added a nice, smooth feel, great for soulful licks. As I said, he has had this a year now and has never had a problem with it. He and his friends have a band and they jam every now and then and this bass has held up great for him.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

I have owned this bass for a few years and it has been perfect the entire time.
I was shocked to see the negative comments about it, as I think it's an incredible value. I own a few bass guitars (Rickenbacker, P bass with EMG PU), and this one sounds and feels as good as any. The active/passive feature is a real plus, as it enables the instrument to create virtually any sound you want to emulate.
The finish is deep and lustrous (Mine is a wine color they don't seem to offer any more) and the action is fast and buzz free.
I am only writing this review because I saw all the negative ones a think that it is being portrayed unfairly. To be honest, for a couple of C notes, this instrument compares favorably with many costing 5 times as much or more.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

I got mine a few years ago,and I noticed now they have changed the bridge-hopefully this one is set better- mine was set at least 1/4" too short in length from the nut, making it almost impossible to intonate properly.I finally solved the problem by filing down one of the saddles(D string)so it moved forward enough to intonate. There is just no excuse for this sloppy workmanship. Also the passive circuit never worked properly,so when you pull the volume pot up,it just shuts off the signal completely.I use it to kill the battery drain so I can leave it plugged in all the time,so at least it's good for something. The pickups are not that bad and all the controls work fairly well. The bass feels solid as a rock and the neck is good (after proper set up,which is absolutely necessary)I got the sunset burst color and it really looks great.Basically, for the price point you are getting a lot of nice features, but they may not all work and you better know your way around the guitar shop, because you are going to have some work to do.I would not recommend this bass for a first bass because the long list of problems may turn the person off to playing altogether.Spend a little more and get a decent instrument that plays good out of the box and leave this one to the luthier crowd.

    Good for beginners

    By ddrumrogue

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

I don't regret buying this bass but I do have some issues with it. First upon receiving it, there were many hairline scratches on the face and edges. Also noticed a lot of polish residue in cracks, corners, etc. The neck is very straight and didn't need much change but the action and intonation were way off. A few frets around 12th and up need filing down. The jack came loose and nearly yanked the electronics out while pulling out the cord. Now on the plus side, this bass has great tone shaping options and sweet output. The neck plays nice and overall balance is great. So far it stays in tune very well after several hours playing over several days. The active bypass is also really nice. It cleans up very well and is beautiful to look at.

These bases once set up properly and that means adjusting the neck and setting the string height cannot be beat for there price. I have been playing for 50 years now and tried a lot of bass guitars. My main guitar is a Warwick and I use the rogue for a back up and it's great. I paid $2600 for my Warwick and I got the rogue bass online for way cheep on sale is it as good no is it half as good yes The bottom line is If you do not want to shell out a ton of money and want a good bass guitar that you have to tweak when you get it definitely by the rogue bass

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass for my daughter to play in church on the worship team. the price v. features, plus a little curiosity led me to buy it too. When it arrived, I wasn't blown away by the looks but they're not bad. If you buy this bass, you may have to take it to a shop, or if you have some know how, set it up yourself. I had to re-adjust the neck with a shim because the action was too low and could not be corrected at the bridge. Intonation was totally wrong. Once I got it set up, it was perfect. I was disappointed though because the instrument I received could not be strung through the body. no biggy. Also, I had to resolder a wire on the output jack that was cutting out and causing buzzing when using the treble boost. I kept the bass because it just sounds so stinking good and for the money, why not? If you buy this, get ready to do some work on it, but it sounds like a much more expensive instrument.

Bought this as a backup. If it didn't burn through batteries and if it was wired correctly so I could switch to passive, I would use it all the time. Plugged in to a Fender Rumble and was blown away by the loudness and clarity. Debating whether to fix wiring or just keep batteries on hand.

Also, wiring on pick ups were reversed, and they fixed that. I keep finding myself picking this bass up when time to play. For the price, it's well worth it.

This bass really knocked my sox off when I first played it. I've used in in every type of venue from church to the rock stage. It has a great and very adjustable tone. It'll stand up to the very best.
I had the frets pulled of and the neck professionally finished. It sounds above and beyond killer as a fretless bass. I can run it through my Acoustic B100 or my GK or my Ampeg head with my Hartke stack and it always sounds great!!! It is well worth the money. Even the money that I spent having the frets pulled and the neck worked was well worth it.

Reading positive reviews and the amazing low price I bought it as a practice bass and to leave in studio for rehearsal. Bass arrived and frets were dirty. Buzz sound coming from pick up and neck needed major adjustment. Also, Nut was bad and had it replaced. I paid repair shop to get bass fix/frets cleaned and they did me huge favors in price. The wiring was actually done wrong (that is what the pick up buzz was). Also, no washers were on knobs. I'm thinking this was a return from MF and they were selling to me as new. With so much wrong, no way a bass like this could leave factory. Once fixed, bass sounds great. It plays very well and has a nice tone when I slap. So, if it wasn't for the repairs and cleaning, this would be an amazing deal.

Comments about Rogue LX400 Series III Pro Electric Bass Guitar:
