I've had the LX405 for about 8 months and it was my second bass (on third now, LTD D-6). I got the Red Quilt and it looks way better in person that the picture.First, there probably will be a decent setup time. The neck was too straight on mine, and even after fixing the truss rod as much as possible, there was buzzing on the lower frets (This went away after time because of the strings eventually bowing the neck). Fixing the bridge and saddles for intonation and string high, respectively. New strings maybe in there, as the factory ones are just too clangy and metallic. The pickups and preamp are pretty noisy, and it didn't go away completely when I shielded the cavities. The B string, even though it's a 35" scale bass and strung through the body, is still kinda weak. But the greatest strength of this bass is how it plays. For double the price of what a Squire P-Bass is and how good it plays, I would start a beginner on this Rogue. The Jazz pickup is a little noisy, but still has a great warm tone. The MM pickup has a hollow aggressive growl, but it's not unbearable, and it picks up harmonics very well. For Jazz and Rock, this a good starting point. Low B, 24 frets, close string spacing. For Funk, I couldn't find a great tone for slapping, but you get a couple of acceptable ones. Since the frets aren't jumbo frets, it's harder to tap, making tapped out classical pieces harder to play.Overall, I think it was a good bass purchase and will probably be a back up for a long time. Later on, I may upgrade the pickups and preamp, and it should sound amazing.

I bought this guitar as a learning tool. I was hoping that I would be pleasantly surprised with this inexpensive guitar but, what you pay is what you get. The bad:1. The finish (I bought the Liquid Sunset) is no where near the photos on the website. It looks cheap, I should have bought the black finish.2. You have to do alot of adjusting to the bridge and truss rod. Every string "buzzed" on the first fret, even after tuning it. I still have some "buzz" after adjusting but the strings are already too high for my comfort. I also tried raising the pick ups since the strings are higher but the pick ups are not adjustable.3. The tuning keys & volume/tone knobs look like gray plastic, the pull-out volume knob pulled right out (it is plastic).4. The little battery door is very fragile. Be very gentle when replacing the supplied 9v battery. The good:1. The neck is very straight & solid. Being a 35" scale, the frets are wider & having 5 strings, the strings are closer together, so there's alot of learning to do especially for those running bass patterns. 2. The active pick up is a plus, but if you have a decent amp (12" spkr and up) it does very well in the passive mode also.3. The body is smaller & thinner than my 69' Fender Jazz, so it's lighter (a plus during 2-3 hr gigs). If I do decide to stick with a 5 string bass, I'll probably sell the Rogue and move up. But for now, it will do for an inexpensive learning tool.

This bass was bought on a whim and need of a 5 string. The pickups are a little lacking on the output aspect, but sounds very nice. Not overly noisy. Growly, nice tight strings and a decent finish? You can't beat it.

Good bass for the bucks

I have been playing bass for about three years now, and I finally busted my Wildfire four string. When the itch/need came, I thougth I would look around and find a five string I liked. I found a Squier Affinity and bought it. It had too much fret buzz, so I returned it. I Found this bass and bought it. This is a wonderful bass for the price. The finish is wonderful and it resonates great. If you are an avid bass player like me, then this is the bass for you.

Its alright

This was my first bass. After about 2 years the input went bad. I have yet to soldier it back because I have bought another bass. The action on it is very good, and it has some fret buzz. The b-string is waaay too lose for my liking, even after I adjusted the bridge. I have it tuned as a D. The paint job is gorgeous and turns heads. I have gotten many compliments on this bass, but the input not working has changed my opinion of it. The body also has some indentations from sitting on the stand.

Really surprised

As a four string player for the last forty plus years. I decided to try a five string,{after seeing so many rockers useing them now}. So off to the music store I went. I tryed several brands some cheap, some very expensive. Having bought a few things from you guys, I decided to give you a try. The 405Pro caught my eye, the shape the finish the features and the price. In the last forty odd years I've owned just about every brand of Bass there was. Now I have two vintage Fenders that I dearly love. I recieved the Rogue 405 Pro, took it out of the box, plugged her up to my 370 Acoustic and haven't touched my others since. I would recommend this Bass to anyone looking to add a good solid five string to there collection.

Great Deal!

I was searching for a bass because I wanted to return to playing after a two year absence. I didn't want to spend a great deal of money. This bass is great for the price! The features are good, it looks good, and it plays and sounds smooth! I recommend it to beginners and experienced players alike!

great value

I bought a Rouge LX405 last spring as a second bass to use as gigs. My primary bass is a Fender Precision with EMG pickups, and I didn't want to spend a fortune on a 5 string, not knowing how often I would use it. I was very pleased when I played this one. The neck needed some adjustment, as I expected, and the pickups are not quite as hot as the EMGs on my Fender, but they are still good and overall, it's a great instrument for the price. It is much lighter than the Fender and has a beautiful finish. I have no regrets about purchasing this bass.

Holy Crap!! I just got this baby in the mail and boy was I surprised. Action was just the way I like it, Color (I have the Liquid Red Quilt) Much Better in person, controls are similar to what I've found on high end basses, I will absolutely buy another one. For the price this is a Great Buy!! If you need a new 5-String and you're strapped for cash this is the one.

First 5 string I've owned. Amazing product for the price as the active/passive ability opens tons of tonal variations. Does everything from mudbucker to blues to rock to slap clean, clear, and with its own voice. Sound was great out of the box but required some intonation and string height adjustments (set for playing style). Neck similar thickness (not width) and feel of a short scale Alembic with less "flex". Beautiful trans-red finish (get the hardcase!). HIGHLY suggested as a 1st 5 string for any level of experience.

Rogue LX405 Pro 5-String Bass

By ReaperDahBassist

from NJ

I received this bass a few days ago and I must say for the price, this is a very excellent bass. The intonation of the bass is excellent. The ability to go from active to passive with the pull of the knob is great. The pickups (for what they are) are really good and the preamping system for it is above average. My only issue with this bass is the strings. I mean i have no idea what type of strings these are, but to compare them to my Fender P-bass or my GS-AXE-2, they are very tuff and they make the bass sound more like a guitar(probably get EB or D'Addario).Overall, this is a very excellent 5-string bass for those that are starting to play bass or have played for a while.

Good buy

I was looking for a 5 string bass to fiddle with and not spend alot since I'm working in the UK for a while. The price on the LX405 looked good and I wouldn't have to worry too much about minor dings from the shipping. I was surprised by this thing. It played pretty well straight out of the box. It had some minor fret buzzing at first. After playing it a bit that that went away. There were some issues with the input when I first plugged it in but that healed itself also. If I was to compare this to anything I'd have to say its definitely on par with the lower end Ibanez basses out there, but has a slight edge with the active electronics. The neck has a very similar to the Ibanez, and plays surprisingly well for this price. To be honest I can't feel like I've got anything other than a good deal. Time will tell but this thing is great if you're a 5 string learner or just want a bass to jam with. It's not a $1000 bass and doesn't pretend to be but, for the price range this might be as good as it gets.

great bass!

i bought this bass out of curiosity and i also wanted a faster 5-string bass. i own a fender 5-string P-bass but the neck on it is just so big so i saw this bass and seeing the price, i bought it, hoping it was a good deal. and it definitely was! the neck is super fast and overall its agreat sounding bass except for a buzz on the first few frets. also the volume and tone knobs started falling off quickly but no biggy. but i would definitely recommend this bass to beginner bass players or experienced ones who just need a different bass. great overall deal for your dollars!

A Rogue LX 405 Mistake

I purchased this bass in March as a backup for my Yamaha TRB 5 on many gigs and my oh my what a mistake I've biggest problem with this bass was that the intonation was bad, very bad..No matter how I intonated the bass, it was never in tune with the lower octave..maybe I got a bad one cause I used to own this model before and it was fantastic except for the buzz you get on the first frets but that was solved..please please save your money and buy another bass not this model..

Great Bass!

This is a really great bass for the price. If yourlooking for a good quality bass, with almost the same sound as a more expensive bass, than buy this one. Feautures are great. Electronic wise, its good, you just need to have basic knowledge of pre amps, ou have to try it out a little and get used to it. But at least for me this is a great bass. Sounds great if you make the right adjustments. Neck was perfectly straight. Got my favorite strings, just pick up the strings a little and the pickups, this bass i do not kid you, sounds, plays, feels and looks amazing, i got the blue one, just wish it was as bright as the picture was. Other then that you cant go wrong. And on Active sounds even sweeter, they dont tell you this, bass and treble knobs are only on if its active.

This is my second one of these basses. They are incredible for the price. This one is liquid red and very pretty. It came completely playable right out of the box. Almost in tune even. On both of my basses I have added a coil tap switches for the bridge pickups and I am very happy with the results. I highly recommend this bass . It sounds great and seems solidly built for years of enjoyment.

I got this and the 6 string rouge bass yesterday. They were both beautiful! The action was a little low... no biggie... and they needed a trus rod tightening..angin, no prob. The finish is better than it looks on the web! Great value for the money! These will keep me entertained for a long while.

Needs Fretless...

By Fallhardfan

I think this is a great bass. The only complaint I have is that there isn't a fretless version. I play a custom 5 string fretless my friends dad put together. It's quite a nice bass, and this bass is just as good as mine except it has frets. VERY EXCELENT BUY!!!!!!!

Great sound!

I ordered the Rogue via internet to an american adress. It was delivered with a blem, but I arrived too late to return it.The first impression is, that the pickups are very powerfull! It looks very nice, especially string through body. This bass sounds very sharp. Inside there's a small 'black box'. It is probably a passive eq, to make (optimise)the sound, and filter out bad frequencies. It sounds really nice, and it's the first bass, when opening treble, you really get almost 'too much' of treble. After a few times playing, the batterydoor on the back broke. It also had the tendency to automatically open itself. Probably made out of cheaper plastic. For the rest, it's not getting out of tune very easely, but there is some fretbuzz.. The strings provided with the Rogue seem to be very loose.

Best Investment

I have been playing the bass for 4 years. I recently purchased the LX405 and have found my new love. The ease of changing from active to passive and back is great. The pop-up button is a great feature. The bass is surprisingly light weight compared to other basses in it's class. I love Rogue has given me the option on how to string the bass - through the body or at the bridge. Overall, this has been my best investment. Rogue, you have never let me down.
