OVERVIEW

Deep, powerful bass with modern electronics.

The 5-string Rogue LX405 Series III Electric Bass is fashioned with a quilted maple top on a basswood body with a matching veneer on the headstock. The neck is Canadian hard maple deeply set in the body with 6 bolts for sustain approaching that of a neck-thru bass.

For stability the neck is fitted with a 2-way truss rod. The bass guitar's fretboard is highest-grade Indian rosewood. Genuine blue abalone position markers and a graphite nut grace the fingerboard. Satin chrome die-cast tuners and bridge are eye-catching details.

The bass guitar's strings can be anchored through body or bridge to suit your preference. The Rogue 5-string is armed with an MM-style humbucker at the bridge and a single-coil up front with active EQ. Controls include volume, blend, bass boost/cut, and treble boost/cut. You can bypass the active electronics with the pull-out volume knob in case your battery dies. The Rogue LX405 Series III is a wonderfully light and well-balanced 5-string bass, and its low price makes it a must-have for every bassist.

I got this used (sunburst model). I was very pleased but would still have been really happy if I had paid their regular price. Originally I got it as a backup 5-string but after playing it a while I'm going to put it in my regular show lineup. This bass will hold up to many other much more expensive basses and I've gotten compliments on the looks and sound from my band members. Overall I think you will be surprised at the quality, value and features of this bass compared to similarly priced 5-strings.
I was really surprised at the great features you get on this base for the price range it's in. The look is nice - quilted veneer top. The knobs, tuners and bridge are all brushed chrome. And it comes with an active two band pre-amp (bass boost/cut knob and treble boost/cut knob). A massive humbucker in the bridge and a single coil for the neck pickup gives you tons of tonal options. I can dial in pretty much any sound I need. For this price range it's a lot of features. You would normall just get passive pickups, basic chromed parts and a flat, solid painted finish and probably either just a singel humbucker or two jazz style pickups. This is an incredibale amount of features for this price.
I had expected to have to go over the bass and tighten up screws and nuts and re-adjust everything to just get it to work but it was all ready to go and nothing loose or buzzing or hanging off. It came all ready to go and everything worked. Other than tweaking the truss rod (loosened it an eight turn) and very slightly raising the action of few strings at the bridge - nothing else was needed. The parts are solid - nice brushed chrome - with everthing fitting perfectly. Tuners were good - not sloppy. Bridge is a nice solid piece of aluminum that is machined with really good adjustments for action, intonation. The bass is much better quality than I would have expected at this price range.
What can I say - this is a super value at this price. The parts alone (pups, active electronice, bridge, tuners) would probably run more than the bass itself. I don't see how they can sell a 5-string bass this good looking and playing at this price without loosing money. Just overall this is a fantastic value.

I bought it because of the Humbucking pickup at the bridge and price, but quickly got dissapointed with the wiring. The first guitar would not work unless I fiddled with the plug, so I returned it. The second had similar wiring and jack problems. Just moving the guitar around would send cracking sounds to the amp. I tried to like it but ended up returning it also in the end. Nice guitar to look at.

Amazing 5 String Bass

By Larry G.

from The Poconos, PA

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a great first 5 string, or a great back-up bass for a working pro. If you have the money to burn, you can't go wrong with one of these, even if you don't need a new bass. It is worth the money just to have one for yourself. This axe puts Rogue on the map!
I own the previous version of this bass; there are some minor differences such as the bridge and color, but the essence of my instrument is the same as the Series lll basses. The features are all useable, not 'fluff', and each of the features works! The active electronics are very musical and not too noisy for live or recorded applications. It lacks a mid-range control, but with the EQ that's available on most amps, you won't miss it. The neck of this instrument is the best part; it is dead straight! Fortunately, the truss rod is two way, so if need be, you can put a little forward bow into the neck. If you're like me, however, the neck is perfect as-is. I have found the low B string to be tight, so there is no 'wobble' in the lowest notes. I don't know if this has been carried over to the new series, but mine has a carved top! It is beautiful to just look at.
Due to a manufacturing error, my first one had the bridge mounted a little too close to the neck, so it could not be intonated properly. MF replaced it immediately, and the new one is absolutely perfect! If it weren't for the bridge screw-up, I would rate it at a ten. OK, that takes into consideration how much it costs, but for the money, this rocks!
The best bass deal in the known universe!

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

The detail in the body is amazing. I love how the neck is easy to get around as well. I would love to see this bass in more color variety. Defianatly one the best basses i could ever play.
Very appealing to look at. Everything on this bass ties together to make a beautiful piece of art that you want to instantly pick up and jam out on. One of my personal favorite features is the headstock, being powerful yet majestic. All in all its a beautiful bass guitar.
Definatly perfect for a professional or a beginner. Sounded sexy right of the box and i couldnt have been happier. Great for any style of music and very easy to work with.
AMAZING BASS FOR THE PRICE!!! If you have the cash to burn this is the bass i would recommend to anyone, whether they be a pro or a begginer.

GREAT BASS! but.... they placed the bridge wrong, 34" so 17" at 12th fret. NOT, 17 at 12th is right ,, bridge is 35 1/4ish, also bridge is 1 3/4 not standard 2" so,they should have put a 2" bridge or placed the current bridge at 34ish. also, the adjustment on intonation screws are maxed, so no adjustment is available,,

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is an issue with quality control and accuracy of the advertisements. I have ordered 4 Rogue Bass LX405 Series III Pro guitars. The first was August 2012. It is a good guitar and worked well until a poorly installed wire chafed and shorted. I finally found and fixed it. The next 3 were ordered in the last two months, the first was damaged in shipping.
But all 3 had several problems in common.
1. The 1/4" jack is not right, I suspect it is a stereo jack, as you can't plug in a standard cable and have it work unless you pull it out 1/2", and it is really hard to put it in and take it out.
2. The new style neck pickups are a bridge position pickup, as the magnets don't line up on the outer strings, & are off a little on the strings either side of center.
3.I don't think the neck pickup is a passive pickup, as the guitar does not work unless the battery is in and has power. The on off switch just seems to disable the tone settings.
4.Cosmetic only, but if you say blue abalone, it should be blue. It isn't.
5. The strings can't anchor through the body with this new bridge.
The guitar I bought last August is just like the one in your website photo, and plays as described in Features, but the abalone was white. None of these last 3 match the photo or have the features described.
I had requested the last guitar be checked for these issues prior to shipping,
and it wasn't. At this time I am very disappointed with the quality control
and the accuracy of the description of this guitar. If the vendor has changed
specs, this should be reflected in the feature description and photos, or, better yet, hold the vendor to the build specs originally stated.
The guitar I bought last August is good, the next three were very disappointing.

After 4 Rogue Basses

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I've been playing since about '65, and owned 2 Hofners, 1 Precision, 1 Jazz, 3 Danelectros etc. I now have a Rogue VB 100, about ten years now, and love it. I wanted a 5 string, bought an LX205 which played and sounded great, but wanted active electronics. In '06, I bought an LX405Pro, and shortly there-after, bought another. These are all I play now. With the blend just past center towards the neck pickup and slight adjustments to bass and treble, I get every sound I could want. I find this to be an incredible value. With all 4 Rogues I've had no failures, period. Everyone who plays one of these are astonished by the price-value.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

The LX405B III is the best value on the market! My first bass is a passive LX205B. Great bass also, when you add a compressor. I play thruogh an old Ampeg V4-B and a fender 412 dual showman on stage. I just added The Ampeg Micro- sv210 head & cab to it as well. Best stage monitor tone on the planet! Line-out to the subs and it's as big as you want. I bought the 405 on clearance and it had some bad electronics in it. Musician's Friend sent me a new bass. Different color! But that was the clearance reason. The bass had an O.K. factory set-up, but with 2 more hours work it is absolutely perfect! O.K. Rogue! What's with pushing the knob --in-- to turn on the electronics? Put the bass in the case and it gets pushed on when you shut it! C'mon, you can do better than that! The strings are very rough at first but they work and they do last! Everyone should own this bass for this price! If there is anything wrong from the factory, Musician's Friend will totally take care of you! Buy it!

let's see, warped neck, cracked fretboard, stripped " E" tuner, scratch on back, string rattle, sent back, was replaced with different color other than original with a chip in the face of the body and again fret rattle. Pure junk. Don't buy this product. P.s. you don't get refunded for time or trouble over what you paid. Buy a Squire.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Ordered as "Used-Needs Repair" with defects listed as no electronic output and finish scratches. The cosmetic blemishes were there but practically unnoticeable and they polished out nicely using a soft cloth with a bit of toothpaste. The "no output" condition existed when a plug was inserted all the way in the jack but there was output when it was inserted part-way. I ordered a flush-mount stereo jack from another vendor (Why doesn't M/F offer these?) and installed it, fixing the no-output problem.

Other issues unrelated to the no-output repair: First, the finish, specified as "trans-black", was… black. No veneer figure can be seen like as in the product photos, even under bright lighting. Second, contrary to the product description, there is no provision for through-body installation of the strings. Third, the blend control… doesn't: it's either the bridge pickup or the neck pickup, with extremely reduced output and mid-rotation. Fourth, the nut slots were nowhere near deep enough and required quite a lot of dressing down with nut files for the strings to fret properly at the first couple of frets. Fifth, virtually all the hardware items, particularly the tuning machines, were loose and required tightening. Finally, although the neck appears very straight, there are buzzes at several places on the fingerboard that persist even with the bridge saddles cranked up almost to the limits of adjustment. A fret-leveling is definitely in order, and I might also fabricate a spacer plate to go between the bridge and body to get some more saddle height range.

I hardly expected a perfect instrument for the price paid and knew up front I'd be putting some work into getting the bass working and playable, so in all I think I got decent value. My biggest disappointments were the features (finish and bridge) not as described.

This is the first bass I've owned, and I can highly recommend it. Don't write this bass off as a "starter bass," though. This monster sounds fantastic and will likely be your bass of choice for years to come. I play a lot of rock, hardcore, metal, etc. and it stands up to the task very well. And at the price it's being offered for, there's no reason not to pick up this beauty.

Awesome value!

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Great features on paper; active preamp w/ active/passive selection, MM style bridge pickup, long top horn, deep neck pocket w/6 bolts. Not so hot features; 34" scale, no neck-thru design (not a tragedy though), and no Mid-range boost/cut function.Purchased a Trans Red one in the used section at a steal, $133. When it arrived, impressed at the sweet finish and hardware, although had minor evidence of QC issues. Needed a setup. After adjusting, plugged in...battery was dead, replaced and found that the bridge pickup seemed harsh and hollow. Neck pickup was great though, no complaints. Strings were rough thus were replaced. Neck has nice playability.Seriously thought of returning it as the MM pickup was a huge disappointment, but decided to look in and check out the wiring. Typical Asia-pac work, rough router edges, dust and weak soldering. After a bit of rewiring of the leads, was finally able to create that MM sound. Now I love it, and definitely glad to have it in my arsenal. Would buy again and apply my mods if it was lost or stolen.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Bought it because I wanted a starter 5 string to upgrade from from playing a old Hondo-II 4-string I was gifted years back for recording & jamming. It looked excellent, everything as it should be, but, I noticed later when playing the higher frets sounding off. Checked the intonation, and it was off by two half steps. There was not enough adjustment in the bridge to compensate. The Bridge had been miss-mounted in assembly. Took it to the repair shop because in the time it took me to get around to noticing the 90 days lapsed. The bridge had to be moved up 2.5" making the string through holes useless and putting the kibosh on the cosmetic plus side since now it had open screw holes in it from the move. I gave it to a friend who wanted to learn bass, but wanted a 5 string to learn on. If I'd been smart and double checked when tuning, ideally I would have just returned it but oh well. Lesson learned. That's what happens when you have so many instruments and too little time.

This is the first bass I upgraded to when I wanted more than 4 strings. I was expecting something worse than it was. This bass has a good nice feel to it, nice tone and stays in tune well. One of the problems with it was if you tried to tune it like a 5 string guitar (E A D G B) the tuners get stuck at one point and takes some force to move it. Good bass though

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I upgraded from the lx405 series II to the series III bass This a way better bass. Its seems a little bit lighter weight. The new bridge feels really good. Same with my other one the nut will need to be replaced due to light fretting on the lower notes but other than that the setup from the factory was pretty darn close. However, i don't know what happens around the warehouse there but this instrument has hairline scratches on the front of it, not to visible but i see them there, also one of the nuts on the one knob was torqued on and stripped to where it was sitting crooked. This is my first purchase from the friend, we'll try again regardless.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

The only problems I had with this bass is the fact that it will not play without a battery in it. Weak battery=yes, Dead battery=NO. The description stated thru the body stringing, but it has no physical option for this. Other than that, I enjoy playing it, Light weight, good sound, nothing to set up upon arrival except tuning.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

The good: Has a surprisingly nice sound. Plays well. It would be hard to find a better quality, look and sound at this price point. Came pretty well set up too. Read some reviews that this guitar wasn't the same one as in the pics. Mine is exactly as pictured. The bad: Strings are really rough, low end quality. The 9v battery, supplied by the manufacturer, completely DOA. No big deal, but when I pulled it out to replace it, it ripped off one of the post connectors in the guitar. Had to solder in a new battery tab. No big deal, but, What?!
