I bought my 004 in August of 08, so as im writing this I've been living with this instrument for about 4 monthes now. So the "Whooopeee! New Bass! Its So Perfect!" phase of bass ownership hass passed. Even so, I'm still in love with this bass... with a few caveats that is. The pickups are just ok, they have a nice meaty punch and decent clairity, but arent quite as articulate as I'd like and I can't get as much growl and bite as I'd like for aggressive styles of music. That being said you can get an awesome jazzy tone with gobs of punch a la Steve Digiorgio, but that Alex Webster style super attack growl clank is very eslusive. I think I just expected more for the price, seeing as the less expensive stiletto custom has EMGs. Which brings me to my next biggest gripe, the 2 band eq. It works great, but for the price a mid control shouldve been on there to give you even better tweeking ability. Now comes the gushing praise. The quality is outstanding, there isnt a rough edge or flaw of any kind to be found. Its one of the best built foreign made intruments I've played. The setup from the factory was a very good medium low, though I may take it down a little farther. The neck holds adjustments very well, and it holds a tune equally well. The playability is very good, the neck is very smooth with a very nice narrow C shape. Access to all but the very last fret is unrestriced. My 004 is natural finish with a rosewood fretboard, and man is it gorgeous. As I mentioned before the tone is very meaty, and fairly versitile, but I think it could be improved substancially with a pickup swap. Its not too bad on the shoulder, I would guess shes in the 7-8lb area.Overall im very pleased with this bass. I don't see myself pining for another 4stringer for a good while, especially if I get some pups for it. Ultimately theres not another bass on the market quite like it, so if you dig it, go for it. It wont disappoint

NEWLIFE MUSIC

By newlife guy

from pa

I had been looking for a new bass for a couple of years. I have owned Rickenbacker and fender basses and was happy with both. The Schecter 004 caught my eye one day when I was on my search for the perfect bass. As soon as I started playing it I fell in love(sort of speak}. The tone and feel and all the features really got my attention. The price wasn't bad either. I had people coming up to me in the music store saying how much their bass players in their own bands loved this instrument. I play in a worship team at church and this bass fills my needs greatly. I highly recomend this bass for any level of bass player who is lloking for a fine sound and a beautiful style

WOW

By NoBandBass

This was wasn't just a step up from my Squier, it was like taking the perfect bass for me and putting it on steroids. At first look, this thing makes you wanna grab it and start belting and thrashing out some hard hitting tunes. It looks like a rickenbacker without the pickguard and all the other accessories. As for when I plugged it in, let's just say when I started, I couldn't stop. I played this thing for an hour at the local music store until I finally made the purchase. WOW! was my reaction. on active mode, it shook my house and rattled my brains. Very versitile also. As far as the passive goes, it still rocks! Nothing can stop this thing! Want it? GET IT!

exceptional bass

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This bass is really exceptional in all the senses, it is a tool of professional quality with a proper very winning and powerful sound for all the musical sons-in-law according to me. The EQ works well as the possibility to mix the two pickups widens the sonorous possibilities of this instrument.

Wish it wasnt bolt-on, but AMAZING!

i went to my local music store to try out bass amps, but this thing caught my eye before anything else in the store. im a guitar player just looking to have a little fun with other instruments, but this thing was great even in my opinion. sounded crisp and clear, very articulate and no mud at all! i play a Schecter Omen 5, and this thing kills it. im gassing for this thing bad (guitar acquisition syndrome for those not familiar.) if youre looking for an awesome bass that feels comfortable take a look at this thing.

GREAT BASS!!!

By Futureguitargod14

from Spokane, WA

I am a guitar player who was in the market for a bass for recording and to emulate some of my heroes(became a huge Les Claypool fan recently). I went into a local shop aiming to get a Fender P bass and this thing caught my eye. I picked it up and I played it for about 5 minutes before I said "I gotta have it!" This bass is a complete steal for the price. I recommend this bass to anyone who wants to get a great sounding instrument for an affordable price.

Brilliant!

This is truly a great bass! It looks beautiful, plays quite easily, and sounds like a dream! You can get a wide variety of tone out of this beast, from very deep to quite brassy, and everything in-between. Personally, I found it to have a perfect rock growl. Active electronics are a plus although the passive sounds great, too! If you are considering a Schecter and would like a great bass with some personality, buy this beaut!

Me and my Schecter 004 Bass

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this bass about a year and a half ago and I LOVE IT. I traded a 5 string Dean in to get this guitar and im so glad i did. I use a rack mounted Ampeg head with a 8 10 cab and the active pickups make the walls shake with that low end rumble. I would tell anyone to get this bass, for the price you cant beat it.

How do you spell Sustain

This lady can cook! I play in small clubs through a Nady wireless into a Behringer BX4500 with 2 BB210's and a Korg AX5B pedal. When I hit that last note at the end of a song, I just let her ring while our guitarists are twiddling around, and our backup singer's feet go numb. She sounds like an old Ricky at less than half the price. The controls are flawless, and the neck is very stable (one minor adjustment when the weather turned cold) The only possible downside (small) I wish the pickups were a little farther apart to get more out of the fader. Did I mention she's beautiful? If anything bad ever happens to her, I'll go right out and buy her twin sister.
