In late Dec 2010 I took delivery of a black Schecter Diamond P. The quality of the parts, workmanship, neck joint, setup, tones, and overall ?playability? were all excellent. I had previously purchased a more expensive Ibanez which I gave up on after receiving 3 flawed New In Box instruments. In comparison, the Schecter was pretty much perfect. I had one minor issue with some discoloration on a few frets - something I could have easily buffed out with steel wool. But instead, the gracious folks at Schecter promised to take care of the frets and ensure the instrument came back to me in "better than new" condition. They quickly & completely made good on their promise. Wow! I've never gotten this level of service from Gibson or Fender for my more expensive instruments. I suppose that's why I've NEVER written a review for any of my Gibsons or Fenders. BTW, the standard strings on the Schecter Diamond P are "D'Addario EXL165SL Super Long Scale 45-105" (http://store.daddario.com/category/145929/EXL165SL_Super_Long_Scale_45-105).

After playing this bass I decided it needs to be in the garbage. The pick ups are big and bulky and just look plain obnoxious, the neck feels like someone tried to copy an American Standard P-Bass but failed horribly. One of the knobs actually fell off when I was looking for a good tone. I never found that good tone. It is forever lost in the good tones out of crappy basses forest.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
Great bass! It was ready to play as soon as I took it out of the box, no adjustments needed (other than tuning). I play in a punk/metal band and I also play in a church band; I am amazing at how versatile this bass is! It is perfect for producing sounds similar to Johnny Christ, Mark Hoppus, or Victor Wooten. Absolutely no dislikes! I will be playing this bass for a while for sure. No need for another bass any time soon.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
The Schecter Diamond P-Bass is a keeper, I am just blown away by it's overall quality. The pick -ups are 'hot' without being active( which I love, as active pre-amps can cut out on you mid session and you don't always have a spare battery ) with a great Classic Rock/Punk Rock sound, even the setup was great straight out of the box !
I had a White Dee Dee looking one when they first came out, which I still miss...
Hence my only gripe, which is that I wish I could afford one in each color !
This Bass is exactly what I was looking for, great tone, style & build quality, all at a great price !

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
I was looking to get a P-bass but wanted a something with a bridge pickup for more versatility. I found this at my local guitar center and fell in love instantly. The bass has some good weight to it, which adds to its solid tone. Has a high mass bridge with both top-load and string-through options. The bass is passive. The pickups sound good, and the coil tap option is a big plus. I do agree that the volume and tone pots get scratchy after a while but for what I paid for the bass, I can't complain. Excellent value!
Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
Great bass with excellent build quality, far better than Fender MIMs of late and every bit as nice as my Fender USA Jazz. Sustain for days, overwound pickups with lots of growl but tone band slightly limited because of the overwinding. Precision neck pickup sounds awesome, bridge humbucker is a little on the honky side. Possible to get a semi vintage tone using the coil tap and backing off of the volume of both pickups. The two blend well for a really solid tone. My only real gripe is that the cheap tone/volume pots go scratchy in a short period of time - a problem seeming to plague all low to mid range imports.
Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
Every time I went into Guitar Center, this is the bass I would play. I didnt even pick up another one. Being able to switch from a split pickup to a humbucker with the pull of a knob is awesome. The neck is fast and its nice to have the option of a string through bridge. If you're considering buying it, do it.
Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
Bought this a couple days ago in blue (stunning color), and I must say I plan to keep this for a long time.Build quality is outstanding, only one little spot where they probably could have cut the end of the fingerboard and headstock better.Neck feels as good, if not better than some of the Fenders I've played over the years. Bridge looks like a nice design, and I love having the bridge humbucker. Always wanted a P-Bass Special, but could never afford one. Only thing is that it would be nice if the neck pickup was a bit higher output. If they ever make a five string version, I'll have to try it out!

I got the blue coloured one and it looks stunning. The craftmanship is simply awesome. This bass has passive electronics, but the possibility to split the humbucker pickup into single coil with just a flick of a switch makes this instrument very versatile. The tone possibilities are vast.If you're into rock or metal genres like me, then you might just as well use this bass. The output growls if needed. I'm very happy with my purchase and can't buy Squiers any more after this.
Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Diamond-P Custom Electric Bass Guitar:
My first bass was a Fender P-Bass, and I always meant to replace it for the sediment, problem being I HATE FENDER! This bass clearly resembling the P-Bass caught my eye. I was so happy it did, not only did it out class the Fender I owned(that cost 2x more 10 years ago!) in terms of sound but the quality is stunning! Long story short Schecter P kills Fender P
