I have respectively owned a CIJ, a MIJ and an Am Deluxe Jazz Bass. Surprisingly, this one is my favorite.
The notes are articulate and punchy and the lows are powerful. If you A/B this bass with a real 1975 Ash/Maple jazz, the sound is not as scooped and zingy and it is a little harsher in the upper-mid, but it is still great for slapping. Consequently, it is probably better at cutting through a mix when played with fingers or a pick. When favoring the bridge pickup, the sound is still fat and supportive which is not always the case on a jazz Bass. Most of the time, it is too thin and nasal. If I wanted to really nitpick, I would say the tuners do the job but are a little too cheap and hard to turn, I prefer the regular black knobs and the wood patterns don't match very nicely on mine. If you mostly want to slap get those famous aftermarket bridges used by Marcus, otherwise this one will be just fine.
Regarding the pickups, I have a lot of expertise in that domain. I previously got to try almost every set money can buy and I would advice to keep those ones. They are fantastic in my opinion. You could shell out a lot of dough on boutique pickups and it would not necessarily be a real improvement. Trust me on that and don't worry about the fact it is made somewhere in Asia and not by Duncan himself.
You may want to do a little set up (or have someone do it for you). In my case I only had to change the strings (a must, I like EB Slinkies on it), lower the neck pickup and lower the string action. The intonation and the neck relief were perfect out of the box.

Overall, this left hand jazz bass had some flaws, a o beliecrack, a body wood blemish, and some loose screws. The Indonesian made models continue to have a lower quality of manufacture. I thought they would put a little more thought into a left handed model, but that is not evident with this bass. Also, upon receiving the bass, it was shipped in two box's. But the original inner box had the bottom portion cut open. Which leads me to believe it was opened before placement into the second box, and it was a possible return, due to the neck pocket crack and dark wood blemish on the body.
I will take the hit, and keep this bass for my son, (this bass will do). I have a Squier 51, that was modified by a box cutter and a switch blade, during a studio session in a haunted prison. It only has about 200 lacerations through the body and across the neck. It was also burried up to the headstock for a couple days, then doused with 190 proof everclear and lit on fire, the polymer finish on it was almost 1/8" thick, but it melted and came off ok with a couple more slashes from a machete. And it now plays perfectly but I do not expect instruements with open box's and
imperfections to be shipped in the future. They will be returned. My sons Lefty jazz bass will not have to undergo any initiations in a haunted west virginia prison....yet.
This Indonesian made Left hand Jazz bass has two Duncan designed pick ups, with good output. The none gloss maple neck is straight and has solid chromed tuners, the black block fret markers are painted onto the neck. The nut is plastic and the four string bridge has chromed saddles. The solid natural blond tinted body seems to be two pieces. The controls and knobs turn easily and have no static or resistance, and they are adequate for one finger volume swells. The pick guard was two ply and clean with no scratches or flaws. the string action is medium high and playable out of the box, I would suggest light strings and lowering for a faster playability. I would also like to se a Classic Vibe or the Jaguar bass produced as a left hand model.
I purchased this Left hand bass for my son last week, I inspected the neck pocket, whereby it looks like a good tight fit, but there is a 1/4" long crack extending through the thick urathane finish. I will diassemble the neck and repair it with super glue and epoxy. Perhaps add a cout of nitro laquer to preserve the markers. The two piece body also has a dark burned 3" long knot on the bottom curvature, it detracts from the natural finish, but it is encased within the thick polymer finish. The neck blocks are flat black paint, and are not inlays, over time they will deteriorate and I will darken them with a black Sharpy Magic Marker. The chrome bridge screws needed tightened. Some were obviously not screwed down all the way. I would suggest backing out and adding a little elmers glue, then screw in, but don't over tighten, These Left handed basses seem to have the same quality problems as other Indonesian models. The Classic Vibe made in China models seem to have tighter manufacturing specs and quality control.

The bass is playable, but with simple changes, such as a low cost pick up, and lighter strings it can become a cheap right brain and left hand blues and rock power machine.

Got this bass a couple weeks ago. I had to lower action,lower the pick ups,chage strings and after that is was perfect. I compared to MIM Fenders it is acually better now. The pick ups are very strong with great slaps. It's a perfect lefty bass for a fraction of what it could have cost. After adjustments i recommend this bass.

This bass is fantastic, fun to play. Very good workmanship on it. It just feels right. I'm still playing with the stock pickups, and with a little tinkering with the amp, you should get the right amount of thump with it. There was minimal setup with this bass. I've changed strings out, and that's pretty much it. It sounds good, it looks good, and it plays good. Nice addition to any musical arsenal.

this is the first time that I bought a Jazz bass,and let me tell you...I'm in love! I'm used to playing Ibanez soundgear basses and I play through an old traynor bass master tube amp through an Avatar 212 neo cab. when I first got it,I had to do a complete set up and change the strings on it. Reason being is that the strings felt like a rough file but other than that, plays like a dream, the only downside to it is that annoying single coil hum that comes out of it. It's more obvious through a tube amp I ordered the fender noisless samarium cobalt pups for it and that should be the end of it, I also played the mim jazz and this one blows it out of the water!! I've been playing bass for over 18 years now and owned all kinds of equipment and let me tell you, as a southpaw, I'm impressed by this bass and the fact that fender offers it in lefty. now if only they could offer the marcus miller bass in lefty...
