Got the SKULL as a cheap knock around bass for Jamming, small gigs, etc. I have been playing over 20 years and have some expensive basses (Rickenbackers, Fenders, Ibanez). I had gotten a Squier P-Bass Special several years ago to leave in my car trunk and throw around. I am still shocked at how cool that old P-Bass is, and how great it plays. However, that P-Bass needed a good setup right away, and after about a month, I could not take the Squier Pickups anymore and put in a set of EMG P-J's. But the SKULL was setup great out of the box, and the pickups seem to sound just fine! Using that old P-Bass Special with the P-J pickup configuration showed me how that setup gives a total tonal variety... so I was pretty stoked on getting the SKULL with the same pickup config. They do sound great out of the box. The neck is fast and there are no rough fret edges on the side of the neck (a typical problem on Mex Fenders). This is one decent bass for a very cheapo price. I would recommend it for any beginning or intermediate player, as well as for any pro that is looking for a great knock around bass for jamming. I have played many basses at three times the price that are not as good. Finally, the SKULL graphic on the body, and the SKULL inlay on the neck seal the deal. Just buy it!!!

I've been a bassist for 7 years. I planned on using this bass for half a set at one of my bands shows and once I plugged it in I switched basses almost instantly. I could not hear the bass over drums or guitar. The wood is light, and the pick ups just don't cut it. Once I plugged in my Fender J-Bass I heard everything clear as day. I wouldn't buy this bass, unless it was someones first and to be used for practice, definitely not for playing gigs.

This bass is amazing.. I've Owned mine for 5 years.. I wouldn't play anything else.. The only con is that its got the squire name one it.. You would have to be out of your mind not to own this...
First & foremost I'm a guitar player...and have been for more than 30 years. But when one of my sons wanted to get his own bass guitar (I have 2 P bass, 2 J bass & 1 short scale Fender) I too got G.A.S.Anyway, the first thing that caught my eye was the body size. I've never really liked the other Fender's that I have. (I only use them to record generally.) I picked this up...and then took it home. Just for the record, he didn't buy this model...or brand...but I think I got the better deal. But he got what he wanted so he was happy.I don't understand the neck problems some people mention, I've had mine for a few years now and it's still straight. (In fact, I just checked it to make sure before this review.)It's now my "go to" bass and the others just sit there. In fact, it's the only bass that's out & ready to play. (Four of the others will hit the auction block very soon BTW.)
Been playing this bass for 3-4 years now, and it's great. I played for a punk band, now playing Metal, and it's had its share of beer spilled on it, and it still sounds great! Only thing that could improve it would be Active Pick-Ups. It'll keep the thunder going in my bands for quite some time!
Slick Bass. For the bucks you won't find a gutsier axe out there. Put new strings on it immediately. I've played it on a pretty wide array of amps and and it always sounds great. Great for Heavy Metal/grunge/rock. One of the reviews above mine said it best, "It's a TANK" One thing you can't see in the photo is the silver metal flake affect in the paint. I also don't feel like I've been breaking rocks all day when I put it down. Really light weight. You may have to tweak the knobs a bit to get your affect, but trust me it's there. I've been playing since 1976 and I've never seen a bass for this price that packs a punch like this one. Man just buy it..it gets the job done just fine in my opinion.
Ok. so the first time i reviewed this bass, i was looking at the bad things about it. but that was a long time ago and since then now only have i greatly improved, but my taste in music has gone from overly techincal gothic metal, to straight up no mercy grunge. and this bass is a TANK when you play grunge because it growls beautifully at lower tunings and even more when you fingerpick(i used to only use a pick, but once again, ive improved) no matter what amp you run it through(i use quite a variety) it will NEVER let you down, and trust me, apart from sound, no picture does this bass justice. even intermediate to advanced players will feel right at home with this bass.
First bass I have owned and its been great. I have let friends of mine use it and say how great it is and they can't belive how cheap it was. Sounds great and isn't as heavy as other bass guitars I've used in the past. Great bass for those just starting out or those with years of experience.
I got this bass for my birthday and although it wasnt exactly brand new it played fine and was in great condition. my only complaint is that the pickups sound horrible if the second knob isnt turned up all the way. it also doesnt get all that loud compared to my precision and bronco basses. other than that, the neck has great action and its really easy to reach the high frets and sounds pretty ok once that second knob is all the way up.
Iv been playing for about a 2 years and i started with this bass. its really good for beginers the only thing is you should change out the strings and its not very loud which is good for playing at home but i use a different bass when playing gigs.
I bought this for my 11 year old daughter's birthday gift. Not only is it beautiful but easy for her to play, lighter than the one she had been playing. Also tough standing up to dragging it to school everyday for the past year.
thsi guitar was amazing! the first time i played i knew i had to have. its great for any kind of playing.
