Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
This bass is made well. Good finish and everything was right on when I got it.
This is a great bass for the money. It has good sound across the whole fret board, no dead spots and a compressor isn't needed. Stays in tune forever. Now the biggest problem that I have had and from reading other reviews, is the possiton of the bass while playing. That can be fixed by buying the strap hook SKU #36990000000000. I took the standart strap holder off the bass by the neck and used the same hole and drilled another to attach it. This part puts the bass exactly where it should be. I love this bass now and don't want to play my big P Bass or Jazz anymore.. Try it! You"ll love it!
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
I just received my new XT-2 4 string bass and wanted to share a couple of things:
1. There is apparently no Spirit manual, as mine came with the manual for the Synapse model, like someone else mentioned.
2. As far as I can tell, the front pot controls the neck pickup, the middle pot controls the bridge pickup, and the last pot is tone control.
3. The tone control is not smooth throughout its range. There is an abrupt change (with associated but hard to hear "pop") about 1/4 of the way.
4. Three of the screwheads on the screws that attach the plastic pickup holders are completely stripped out.
5. The bridge pickup was twisted. Yeah - I've never seen this before. Finally got it somewhat straight, but can't completely straighten it because of #4 above.
6. The bridge is easy to adjust (tuning, intonation, sting height).
7. The neck needed a little adjustment, but was quite easy to do (just be very careful!).
8. The finish on the body and neck are flawless.
9. Sticker on the back says "Made in China." The Steinberger Web site says all designs are still made in Tennessee. I think the operative word here is "designs."
I'm mostly satisfied with the guitar. It plays great and sounds pretty good for an inexpensive bass. I'm sure I'll be replacing the electronics at some point.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
PROS:-REALLY compact, portable design-fits almost anywhere, great for people with back problems(i'd imagine), plus no head allows for more movement on stage without hitting anything-really bright tone on all strings-perfect for practicing while sitting on a couch-great for small guys (like myself) who look dwarfed with regular basses-Compliments-I've never used this outside of my home without getting lots of compliments! People (players and non-players) love this thing, they find it so interesting. And that is a musician's primary task-to entertain ;D-ALMOST never goes out of tune-two pick-ups to play with, lots of tones to try, though they're all brightCONS:-sound better with a pick(i play finger style,so this could be a pro)-really corny tuning mech.-unbalanced when standing-the body shifts to the left, making it harder to play without looking-new E&A strings tend to go from the clear, crisp tone to a thunky- plasticy tone within a few months, making them hard to mix with the D&G-------------------------------------------------**PLEASE NOTE I bought this used on eBay for $310, but when I got it the neck was really screwed up-even the guys at my local music store doubted if they could fix it, so I brought it home and fixed it with an allen key.. now it plays alrightOverall, this is a good bass if you're travelling and need to practice, but for any performance I'd stick with my p bass.Honestly, unless you need a light weight bass or you're a steiny fanatic, just save another $100 and get a fender p bass, that's a pro bassStill, very fun to play, just not for everybodyCheers
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
I am BASSing this review on two week's use of a borrowed Steinberger Spirit 4 string bass. I was trying it out to see if I wanted to buy it from a friend.I found it to have good action and a deep, yet lively tone. The stand-out feature of this bass is the way the bridge works. Once the instrument is tuned, you may never have to re-tune it for months, even with agressive playing. If you don't know, the headless instrument tunes at the bridge and the strings have nuts on each end. I used it for two rehearsals and one show.At the show, I noticed I had a difficult time finding my way around on the neck without looking at my hands. What once seemed to be automatic took effort to hit the right notes. I figured out it was because without the top horn of the bass body, the top strap attached to the back of the body near where the neck joins the body. This made the bass hang a few inches to the left on my body and threw my playing off. The high end models I belive come with a plastic wing you can attach to move the strap further away from the body, and you may be able to order this wing. I belive you could get used to it with a few weeks of practice. However, I was playing a lot and did not have time to get used to a new bass. Other than needing to get used to the body position of the bass, it is a great sounding and great feeling instrument. Having no head is a plus on small stages if you move around a lot like me. I was less prone to whack the mike stand or hit a cymbal. Had it not been for the body position thing, I would be playing a cool looking Spirit bass right now.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
The Steinberger Spirit XT-2 bass was very well constructed. Nice low action and no fret buzz. It did not have any flaws that I can see besides a HUGE design flaw! The original Steinberger basses as well as the new Synapse basses with the brick style body have a strap extender, AKA strap hook. Since the body is so small, they help the bass hang in the right playing position when standing up.Well the XT-2 does not have one! So unless you have long arms like a chimp, good luck getting to the low end of the neck! The combination of the small body and the placement of the strap buttons make the bass sit too far to the left. Without some sort of strap hook/extender this bass is awkward and hard to play. To boot, Steinberger does not offer a strap extender/hook that would be a direct fit onto the Spirit.Sound wise, this Spirit is very mid sounding, dull highs and muddy lows. There was no clarity to the sound. Sounded much better unplugged which tells me it was not the strings. If you are thinking about getting one, consider carefully this is a very awkward bass to play unless you modify it.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar:
I just got my second Spirit bass. I was an idiot and sold my last one to buy an Epi EB-3. I found this one in white, used for 300.00. The EMG Selects are what they are, they get signal to your amp where you can adjust the sound to whatever you need. Replacing them is an option, but I don't have the need, YMMV.The playability and the neck size/shape and finish is what I really find great about this bass. I have owned 2 now and they are exactly alike; good quality control. The gig bag isn't much protection. A cheap rifle case can be modified into a perfect hardshell case.
