An excellent entry-level five-string for up-and-coming rock bassists!
Applying the advancements in knowledge, technology, and skills Yamaha has gained since launching the BB Series over 30 years ago, their bass design team has reinvented a legend with the new BB425 five-string electric bass guitar.
The new BB425 delivers exceptional tone and resonance using a no-compromise passive, bolt-on design that raises the bar for quality and performance. Exclusive features deliver powerful, rich tone, excellent attack and sustain, immense volume, and overwhelming presence.
The BB425's diagonal body-thru stringing angles the strings 45° at the saddle to reduce stress, secure their tension, and improve transmission of the strings' vibrations.
With a solid alder body, custom-wound pickups, and gig-ready hardware, the BB425 is a truly affordable bass designed for today's rock players.

I was looking for the quality 5 stringer, was thinking of P-Fender but read not so great reviews and them being so expensive and active on top of it...went blantly to the local store, they had this white interesting looking bass on display, wasn't impressed with Corts, Squires, Fenders, Ibanez's....
....plugged this one fell in love on the spot with it's playability, sound, looks...ran home to continue playing...
Yamaha had everything I was looking for all the features simplicity and sound from funky tru jazzy to bluesy but best in rocky.
Passive is way to go! Do I hate sterile active basses (even those from Yamaha).
This bass is simple with good sound choices through 3 way toggle switch. Factory settings was kind of generic, spent some time setting it up - pick ups height, strings height, intonation, swap G-B saddle screws to avoid B string floppines, minimal neck shimming...became totally comparable to my Fender Jazz standard 4, would like to have jumbo frets but now I'm getting picky. Neck is nice a bit on the slim side but strings spacing is perfect so it compensates and it's very easy to play (maybe too easy, HA). Pick ups are very good, strings tru body also, have nice powerfull (rock) sustain.
For the money I paid for this instrument it's amusing how well it's build. The neck wood(s) are of high quality, can't say for the body as it is nicely painted and it's well comparable to double priced instruments to it's looks and sound.
I think Yamaha will discontinue this model very soon, when people discover the value of this instrument they'll never go for their more expensive models. They advertise as entry level instrument, but its sound and looks is everything but that, yes maybe the body shimming is missing and the bridge looks thin. I don't think I will be selling this very soon if ever.
I replaced a Schecter Diamond P-5 Custom with the BB 425. The Schecter was a Great Bass,,,,, but... it was a little too heavy, the 35" scale was a little too far of a reach and the 5 in line headstock meant that I HAD to get a Schecter case (or at least had very few choices).
The Yamaha is lighter, a 34" scale and a 4+1 headstock.
The Schecter was giving my left shoulder trouble and caused pain after playing for an hour or so. Not so with the BB425. All is well and it looks cool too.
I've really come to love passive Basses again after using active for the last two decades.
The 3 way pickup selector is great. I run both pickups on full so I only have one volume knob to deal with. ( I sometimes slowly roll the volume off at the end of some songs) The neck is comfortable and thin enough to be non-fatiguing even after several hours of playing.
This by far the best Bass I ever bought at the price. Very well finished and night fit.
The sale price shoots this one out of the park !!!!
