Comments about Hal Leonard 50 Licks Jazz Style DVD:
This DVD offers something of value to a certain group of guitarists. How do you know if you are in that group?Easy...IF you are comfortable with hybrid-picking ( both pick and fingers) or just using your fingers & thumb...IF you already have experience with common blues-Jazz progressions like the ii-V7-I...IF you already understand diatonic theory, at least a little...IF you want to "get into" Jazz guitar but are inexperienced...Then this DVD can give you a solid foundation of typical or cliche Jazz riffs and chords. He plays familiar "stock" licks that are very useful, though not original. That's a good thing! Just as beginning rock players have to learn basic licks like "smoke on the water" or Zep or Sabbath tunes, Jazz players need to know the basics. That's what this DVD provides. If you are an intermediate player, there might be some new material here, though not by any old-school meaning of the term intermediate. Advanced players don't need this and will want something more formidable. But this is perfect for guys who are just learning Jazz tunes and need authentic-stylistic licks to incorporate into their melodic meanderings.
