10 hours of recording education from one of the most celebrated producers of our time.

Nearly three years in the making, Alan Parsons' monumental 10-hour video series, The Art & Science of Sound Recording, is now available in a three-DVD boxed set! Narrated by actor and musician Billy Bob Thornton, the DVDs are divided into 24 sections, starting with a brief history of recording.

Parsons' illustrious career as a recording engineer, producer, composer, and artist acts as both backdrop and inspiration for the series. Parsons worked with The Beatles on the albums Abbey Road and Let It Be, engineered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and produced a string of multi-platinum hits for The Hollies, Pilot, Ambrosia, Al Stewart and other artists, as well as for The Alan Parsons Project.

Filmed in HD, this is among the most powerful instructional series ever created for music production. The Art & Science of Sound Recording looks at everything from soundproofing to mixing, and from recording guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals, to recording a choir. Fellow professional engineers and producers join Alan Parsons in this top-quality, practical, and cutting-edge guide, including Jack Joseph Puig, John Fields, Elliot Scheiner, Jack Douglas, Tony Brown and Chuck Ainlay. Artists and musicians interviewed include Michael McDonald, Taylor Hawkins, Nathan East, Rami Jaffe, Carol Kaye and Erykah Badu. This invaluable instructional DVD set applies classic, old-school recording experience to the modern recording scene, and is certain to be a standard work on the subject for years to come. Along with its fully interactive website, The Art & Science of Sound Recording is a complete course in modern recording.

The Alan Parsons Sound Recording DVD

By Tim Ameche

from East coast

Comments about Hal Leonard Alan Parsons Presents The Art And Science Of Sound Recording DVD Set (3 Disc Set):

As I have not Finnished the program It would be hard to give a overall rating. As far as what I have seen I will say I have found nothing has been missed.
I have not finnished the whole course. But of what I have viewed I was amazed at how much information he went over. I went to a school for Recording Enginering many years ago. There was no digital recording at that time. But the Alan Parsons Science of Sound Recording is an DVD set I would recomend to any one who is thinking of setting up a digital studio in their home. It is wonderful to have this information availble today and from such a expert of the recording field.

Helpful for Musicians of All Skill Levels

By Ben Cruz

from Los Angeles

Comments about Hal Leonard Alan Parsons Presents The Art And Science Of Sound Recording DVD Set (3 Disc Set):

I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD set. It was definitely educational, but it never seemed boring or repetitive. It kind of feels like a living encyclopedia on music production and engineering. Alan Parsons worked with The Beatles and Pink Floyd, so of course I trust his opinions to make my own work sound amazing.
The breadth of information on this DVD set is incredible! I now know exactly where to place a microphone on my guitar amp. I learned the difference between condenser and ribbon microphones. I got to see what a real live tracking session looks like. All in all, this video taught me a lot more about recording than I could have known before.
This DVD looks pro. The packaging immediately appears well-made and worthy of displaying on a bookshelf. The video quality is terrific and the audio is great. I was happy to find out that the DVD comes with Spanish and German language tracks. I was able to show the Digital Audio and Computers section to my producer/friend from Argentina - with the Spanish soundtrack!
It's hard to place a value on this DVD, as I still find myself revisiting certain parts of the program. In particular, I rewatch the EQ section for knowing the "magic frequencies" for various instruments for my mixes. This DVD was pretty expensive, but in the end it will save me tons of time (and money) by becoming my "go to" resource for music production. I use everything from Garageband on iPad to Reason and Logic Pro and go straight to this DVD for tips from the pros.
