I purchased this book at the same time that I purchased the cord book (about 6 years ago). I did figure out how to use it after some study. But I found that I never really used it. My focus has been on coodination and learning tunes. One day I was looking over a friend's guitar instruction book & saw that "the pattern" was always given in presenting a tune (the mandolin is my first instrument with a fretboard). I have been looking at this book more thinking that I will use it more in the future --- eventually, I want to write my own music. The cord book helped me more in getting started on learning to play tunes. Both the cord and the scale books are great reference books -- great to have around!
