I have played for about 25 years and then had a long break.The instruction is layed out in small lessons to allow the student to master the lesson before moving on.From using the CD's, I got the impression that John McCarthy, has an extrodinary talent, not just for guitar and music, but as a talented instructor.The lessons were presented in a fun and knowledable way to keep the lessons from getting 'boring'.I think the CD set is great for beginner with little or no music experience.Or for the intermediate or advanced player, for review or just wanting to learn something new and lay a good foundation for the guitar.From there, I think one could go on to other genres of music with this foundation mastered.From looking and learning from the CD's, excellent instruction product.A valuable addition for anyone's muscial library.

I purchased what I believed to be the complete "Learning Electric and Bass Guitar" beginners course but found that 1) I was only sent one disc, 2) the pdf booklet download was far more complicated than it should have been and 3) the metronome and backing track features simply didn't work. I have gone looking for better resources.

Great except you have to print of the book that has the tabs and download the backing tracks but is ok unless your printer uses a bunch of ink and even if it does buy this anyway

This course is a tremendous value! you get everything you need to go from a newbie guitarist to an advanced player. Amazing videos i used them and within a couple of weeks i was able to play alot better than before i have been teaching myself for two years and up till now was ok but not great with these dvds i went from slow and awkward to fast and majestic the advanced dvd helped me the most but if you are just starting out these are the dvds to buy

Awesome. Teaches you scales, bi-dextral hammer-ons, sweeps and more. Teaches you how to play Eruption and other popular songs (I can play Eruption!! AWESOME). Requires lots of practice but is so easy to understand. Love it.

After reviewing a few learn to play guitar methods, I chose this for my nephew, And am satisfied with it, Although it doesn't go into enough explanation, It will show you the basics and if you have questions and don't have a musician in the family lol , you can always ask them online through their website,With this program and my guidance, My nephew is now shredding, If your a beginner this dvd set, patience, persistance and practice will get you playing.

To keep it short, these videos are thorough, informative, and a great teaching and practice tool. If you take the time to practice every lesson until you have it down before moving onto the next, and you use the internet resources and member page, you will become a much more accomplished and knowledgable guitarist.I've used many teaching aids and this is by far the best. I cannot recommend these DVDs enough.

Started out on another method that was book only, was great for learning notes on string, but chord rythms, etc. were shaky. Picked up these DVD's and never looked back! Great for learning your chords and rythm styles, plenty of finger workout exercises and scale progressions to learn the fretboard, and the online support tops it, especially for people like me who come up with LOADS of silly questions.
